After playing this expansion for awhile I simply decided to review it. Honestly, I feel that 'Dark Crusade' was much better than 'Soulstorm' for many reasons. The main thing that really bothers me about the main campaign of 'Soulstorm' is all the (take and hold) levels of the game. If you are a low level character you have to really level up and by doing that you risk your enemies leveling up also and take the risk of losing power and then it makes the game so much harder.

'Dark Crusade' had a few of these levels through the campaign also but not as many. For some reason I just find it irritating and can't really get past it. I also agree that the main opening movie has very low standard graphics for this series and last but not least the 'Sisters of Battle' are quite weak. They are similar to the 'Imperial Guard' but without the heavy firepower (ie..Basilisks, Leman Russ tanks etc). I think in this area a full army of 'Witch hunters' would have evened this army out alot better. The Sisters just lack any real firepower and rely on flame based weapons (which they are known for) but if there is any heavy support against you the Sister fall pretty easily.

Its sad really because I really like the Sisters but they are just so weak its sad.

In the end, it is an overpriced expansion that does feel rushed and now that they are pouring all of their manpower into 'Dawn of War II' I feel this is the last part of the original 'Dawn of War' series. If you really like the challenge and are a Warhammer 40K fanatic like me you'll go ahead and get this anyway. But, for those happy with the first three games and don't care about the 'Sisters of Battle' or the 'Dark Eldar' waiting for 'Dawn of War II' should be well worth the wait!

Okay firstly I want to compare this game to other r.t.s. games, I mean you've got ages of empires, command and conquer, and the blizzard r.t.s. games, you know, Warcraft and Starcraft, but this expansion along with the two previous expansions and the orgional smoke all those. Well I think this expansion caps off the Dawn of War series perfectly. 9 teams, tons of maps, dozens of ways to destroy your enemies, this game is awesome. Goodbye harvesting minerals, lumber, food...vespine gas?...Capture strategic points, relics, and critical locations to get a jump on your enemies. This game breaks so many barriers long set by Westwood and Blizzard it's not funny, design, versitility, heck even the sound bytes from the units are awesome: "do you hear the voices too? I must KILL!" as spoken by the chaos Marines. "If it moves kill it."-Space Marines.

This game takes Starcraft, Warcraft, and Command and Conquer and blends them together, from reinforcing dying squads, to acquiring a special unit when a relic is captured this is the awesome end to the Dawn of War chapter. Anyone who critisizes the water not spashing right when units move through it needs to get a degree and get job designing games, other wise, build an army and blow crap up with the rest of us.

Beginners to this game do not be afraid, buy the complete set and hit up the tutorials, play skirmishes to practice, then hit up the campaigns, you'll have a good time. Check out the roster of voice actors too, you might be surprised who lent their voice to this game. Dawn of War has raised the bar for real time strategy.

A Great Sequal But Bring The Power

I have loved the Warhammer 40K Dawn of War series. They've brought a futuristic setting in a blood lust Strategy game. Kind of an RTS on crack if you'd ask me.

The gameplay is very cool, lots of gore and interaction. With Campaign and Skirmish modes, you can decide to rule the galaxy or just battle it out with your enemies.

I personally like the Total War games better, because more strategy is supplied in the game. But, Dawn of War has brought alot of fun interactions.

I would only get this if your computer can handle it though. I've been able to play all the other Dawn of War games except this one without serious issues on my computer. Dawn of War: Soulstorm demands at a minimum: Windows 2000/XP; 512MB Ram (for 8-Player multiplayer); 2.0Ghz Intel Pentium 4, AMD Athlon XP or equivalent processor; 3.5 GB free hard drive space; 8X DVD-ROM drive; 64mb direct x9.o compatible AGP video card with hardware transformation and lighting, DirectX9.0 compatible sound card, 16 bit; and ofcourse Keyboard and Mouse.

I believe the reason i had issues playing this game is because of the dvd rom drive because i dont think it's a dvd rom... or because my Dell Laptop doesn't have such a good processor...

I have a Dell Latitude|D600, it has played Total War: Rome with minimum to no problems, all other DoW games flawlessly, Counter-Strike online on minimum settings with hardly any low fps on good servers, and World of Warcraft with lag spikes here and there. I think it's just because i beginning to go out of date lol.

Plus, laptops aren't exactly the best thing to play games on unless it's actually made for it. And if you want a laptop made for it go to AlienWare, because they are definitely the best for a price. A very not so nice of a price =P... but if you've got the buck, you can get the best.

Anyways, Overall the game was fun on my friends custom desktop and i would recommend it to anyone who likes a good stretegy game to anihilate your enemies in. I hope you enjoy the game as much as i have and believe like me that this is a great sequal to one of the best strategy games ever.

I have to say, I had my doubts about this from what I had read, but I've been playing it, and it rules! Obviously there isn't a huge amount of new stuff here, but the campaign is actually really solid and interesting; the Dark Eldar and Sisters are both really exciting to fight against, at least, and are totally new. I'm not a hardcore RTS strategist and mainly play the game for the atmosphere and polish, and those are both really great here. The visual and thematic elements are great, and this campaign easily equals or even exceeds Dark Crusade's. Too bad Iron Lore is dead :( Hopefully warhammer stays this good!

A nice way to finish the series

I have thoroughly enjoyed Dawn of War, plus all three expansions. With the addition of the Sisters of Battle and the Dark Eldar, the game now has 9 fairly unique and fun races. This expansion is at least as good as the other two, though it is not without flaws.

Gameplay: Same great, over-the-top, explosive action. Just more races to cause havoc. The campaign is based on the meta-map concept from Dark Crusade, where you move about a turn-based strategic map and engage in real-time battles. The new maps look great, but it does get tiring having to fight the same skirmish on the same maps during the campaign. Each race has a stronghold mission, which are challenging and well done. There is really not a lot of reasons to play through the campaign more than once or twice, but it is a nice diversion.

Skirmishes against the AI are generally great fun. My only quibble is that the AI is merely decent; Relic really does need to get more serious about AI programming for Dawn of War 2. While it can sometimes put up a good fight, at other times computer opponents will do some outright goofy things, like not tech or build necessary buildings. Thankfully, there is a good player-made mod forthcoming that should greatly improve the AI. Still, Relic, which has built its reputation upon real-time strategy games, should take more care with its AI. Anyhow, I only rarely play multiplayer and haven't played it with Soulstorm yet. However, there are supposed to be some improvements, like better connectivity, metals, etc.

Graphics: The game still looks great to me. The Dark Eldar and the Sisters are well done. The game adds air units to the mix which also look good. I personally like them, though they don't have a large impact on the core ground-based gameplay.

Sound: As much personality as ever. The Dark Eldar are especially wicked in their voice acting. All other sounds--explosions, weapon fire, etc.--is convincingly done.

Technical issues/documentation: Beyond minor AI bugs, I have not experienced any technical issues with the game in single-player modes. The game comes with a manual that adequately describes the new races.

Replayability/Value: Since this game will continue to get some high-quality, player-made mods and maps, I will probably be playing it for years to come. The Dawn of War series is my favorite RTS game, and Soulstorm just reaffirms that. Since it is a stand-alone expansion, I highly recommend it to anyone who likes strategy games or the Dawn of War series.

Pros:
+2 new and well-done races
+Slightly improved campaign
+Many more maps
+Still looks, sounds, and plays well
+Has a talented modding community

Cons:
-Not the best skirmish AI, even after all of these expansions
-Only slightly improved campaign

A Jolly Good time

First of all the graphics are pretty cool, the races are true to the tabletop, missing my favorite race the Tyranids. Some of the battle are a little ridiculous, I understand the fog of war is to increase realism but, it makes some of the battles a little more ridiculous. Just like in Warcraft 3 you'll spend 3 hours looking on giant maps for one little worker running around. If they wanted to make it more like the tabletop game they wouldn't have the fog of war. I never played warhammer where we pretended where the characters where, unless they that an ability that made it so.

The load time is worse than any other game I've played. I like playing the game, it's quite sad, I'm so use to the long load I end up reading a book while I wait for it to load. Or go make something to eat, eat it and come back. Reminds me of the old playstation games. Maybe my computer just sucks I don't know.

haveing played the previous installments of soulstorm, im fairly pleased w/ the game overall. the two new races were neat and the new aircraft for the others races were ok. one of my favorite rts games, my only bone to pick would be that the races arent too well balanced

Soulstorm, another good add-on

This add-on is very similar to Dark Crusade in that it's best played with the other games stacked on. The 2 new teams are fun and each team gets a Flyer unit (as opposed to the skimmer units). Overall, fun game with lots of killing. A good purchase for rabid fans. The game has no real downsides other than the fact that the game is starting to show it's age. The add-on doesn't change the gameplay from Dark Crusade, it just makes the game bigger: more maps, more teams, more units. No real flaws, runs great.
