The most intense Star Wars game to date!

Me and my friends have lost hours of sleep playing this incredible game. This is one of the most intense games I have played. Will YOU like it? Well, you first have to like the concept of Demolition Derby. If you do, you'll at least like it. You'll like it even more if you like Star Wars. This game makes some of the Star Wars dreams come true. Where else will you see Darth Maul (who is a hidden character that I've unlocked) and Boba Fett battle each other? As such, this game isn't very fun if you play alone. You MUST be playing against friends. Pick this one up if you're looking for a great party game and turn the sound up!!

Lots of fun that doesn't last

I don't own a DreamCast, and don't play many console video games. But my brother recently did get this game for his DreamCast, and being a Star Wars fanatic I decided to give it a try.

At first I was terribly excited. A high quality, exciting opening cutscene, plenty of gameplay options, a variety of characters, some known and some new, to play as...what more could you ask. So I started playing. There are four play modes: Hunt-a-droid, in which you run around trying to kill as many droids as possible within three minutes, battle, in which you face off against up to four opponents for one round, high-stakes in which you face off against one opponent and win lots of money, and then the main game -- tournament mode, where you go through four rounds for each character, destroying enemies and unlocking the more powerful vehicles. There are a cool selection of power-ups, guns, etc..., and the graphics look nice (except for some draw-in distance issues). The sound is also great. But the vehicles aren't that well balanced, and some of the arenas pop up over and over while others are rarely selected by the computer.

This game was very addictive for a few days. I beat the tournaments, unlocked all the secret characters, made and broke high scores -- and by the third day of gameplay I was bored out of my mind. There was no where farther to go with this game. I might play it occasionally, but while it's fun and quick, it's simply not worth the money simply to shelve it after a few days of gameplay.

"THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE.."

let's face it; the car combat genre hasn't really exploded on the video game scene, as compared to fighters first/third person shooters or even RPG's. ever since the first TWISTED METAL game. (which was the most innovate, as well as the first "HIT and DRIVE but i must give credit to activision/luxoflux for producing this kinda game but with the vernable STAR WARS license.

SWD uses the most well reconized vehicles from ALL the previous STAR WARS movies, including the pod racer from epidsode 1. the sounds are very authenthic from the whinny laser blasts to R2 D2's "chatter" of course you also hear the legendary john williams soundtracks as well. thr graphics are great except with slight hint of "draw in" (C'MON GUYS THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEXT GENERATION SYSTEM!!)

what SWD adds to this genre, are different tournament modes, that add the replay value like high stakes where you can place a bet on you against your opponent, and unlocking extras like bonus vehicles/characters etc. from your earnings as well.

all in all, for those who can't wait for the upcoming TWISTED METAL BLACK (on ps2)as well as you FORCE FANS, this is a MUST BUY.

Another Star Wars racer

The characters you know and love are are here Chewie, Bobba Fett among others. The goals here are to demolish other racers with your cannons similar to Vigilante 8 in fact a little to similar. The sndfx audio seems mushy as do the controls somewhat also the update for the DC really doesn't add anything except multiplayer. Somehwat disappointing but ultimately a great deal of fun with lots of little extras to unlock. If a shoot em up racer is your cup of tea you could do alot worse especially on the DC>

Why was it criticized so much?

I don't agree with some of the cons. The controls were good. I learned them in a day, and in hunt-a-droid, I beat 17 droids. The sound and graphics are fantastic! I agree with that.

I bought this cause I'm a Star Wars fan, it was cheap, and it looked fun. I was right! I played a one player game, soon, we brought another controller, I was playing against my brother, and it was even more fun!

I don't care if more than half of the people on earth criticize this game. It's full of adrenaline-pumping excitement! Buy this now!!!

Major disappointment

The creators of V8 and V8 2nd Offense could do so much better. Your primary laser weapon doesn't track targets well, surroundings don't react to being hit with serious firepower, and the bonus weapon selection is terrible. Most graphics are great, but battle action is hard to follow. Nothing will aim properly; every shot is a miss. The graphics for the weapon launches and explosions are beyond awful. Steer clear of this one.

THE BEST GAME EVER!!

This is the best game ever. I bought it and wasn't excepecting to much, but to my surprise when I first played it I was amazed. The graphics and gameplay were the best. The controlls were easy to master. The levels in it were the bomb. They are interactive, like in this one these giant robots are walking around and they shoot at you. The characters they have in this game are the bomb and so are the veichles. Each veichle has its own weapons and there are also weapons you can pick up will playing. The enimies are pretty good they'll gain up on you and make you run. My friend and I were playing the game for about 3 hours and it felt like 10 minutes. If you are playing two players you can be on the same team doing anything in the game. My favorite veichle is the speeder bike. OH, another thing I found intresting was when you hit a guy with a missile or laser (or whatever) they like explode and sizzle and start on fire so the damage looks real unlike other corney games. This game is good for all ages except for some of the violence. OH, and if you liked the Vilgilante 8s you'll love this game.

Game Play is TERRIBLE - Disappointing

This game has some of the worst game play action I have seen in a long time. Although the quality of Graphics and Sound are good, the quality of this game is not what you would expect to play on a new 128-bit system - more like back in the fist Nintendo 8-bit days. You will get sick of this one real quick. Don't listen to the hype of those pumping this one - there is no way you'll lose hours of sleep.

Gimme a break. This game was fun the first time I played it when it was called vigelanty 8. No imagination needed for these programers change a few lines in the code to replace the automobiles with Star Wars vehicles and send it out. Thanks for nothing.

This Game Rocks
