Rune Gold

If you have a high end system and would like a hack-and-slash action game with a great story, awesome graphics, great control and engrossing music, I strongly recommend Rune Gold! For some gamers the action may be slow, however at times in can get quite hectic. For me, Rune Gold is all about look and feel. The dark eerie settings and music provided me hours and hours of enjoyment; always wanting to know what was around the next corner or in the next room. The developers certainly made good use of the "Unreal" engine and personally I thought they got more out of it. The environments are just beautiful. Characters range from heroic to ghastly and even some are quite comical. I was hooked by the story line from get-go. I must say that the ending of the game is the most gratifiying ending I have ever seen. Not only did I feel a sense of accomplishment but I felt truly rewarded. Near the end of the game the story gets rather dark and thus the Mature rating (not to mention the graphic violence),but I am 43 y/o and found it entertaing and engrossing.
You play as a Viking and have swords, battle-axes and warhammers aplenty, each getting larger and more powerful as you progress through the game. After a few levels you will encounter power-ups to increase the damage of your weapon.
The voice-overs are done superbly and the characters really come alive. This game has some of the baddest looking baddies in any game. Ragnar, the main character that you play as, also goes through a couple of transformations as your skill gets better and progress through the game. I won't give that away!
If you like in-your-face fighting and tired of blaster-cannons and the like, by all means check out Rune Gold. Awesome!!

This game is so fun. Its the best online because you can do team deathmatches and coop. It is so cool when you throw your weapons at people and them finish them off with a swift hit with your blade to the neck. I have a p3 566mhz geforce2 64mb, 320sdram, with broadband and the game runs perfect under opengl mode so the requirements are easy to get

Hack and Slash Your Way To Valhalla

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

3D Hack-N-Slash. You are a viking and you hack your way up from Hel (sic) to earth, transform from human, and finally enter Valhalla. Very real and beautiful graphics. Loads of quick action. Funny dialogue. High adventure. Challenge. Simple puzzles. Hack! Slash! Destroy! They just don't make enough games like this! Odin guides you. You get to fight a great number of differing type of enemies, from goblins, to giant jelly-fish, to zombies, to other vikings, to giant snow-beasts, to dwarves, to more zombies, then more zombies, then tougher zombies, and then some more zombies. All told, you get to hack up or set fire to about a thousand zombies in this game, if you play it on the "Hard" difficulty setting. Many weapons and attack strategies to smite the undead hordes with.
Beautifully engrossng graphics. Huge outdoor environments later in the game. "Cross the rainbow-bridge, and enter Valhalla!" This game is straight off a Dio or Iron Maiden album.

Even though it's 7 years old and showing it's age, it's still one of the best hack and slash swordplay games out there. grab it if you can.
