Good

This is a steal at this price. The only thing you have to watch out for is the system requirements. If you have an older computer, you may have trouble with the game. That being said, this is a fun collection of games. This is like the Total War series with nothing but battles. Not quite as pretty as the new games graphics, it still holds up remarkably well. The storyline is interesting, and the game holds up to repeat playing. Worth the bucks.

The orginal Collection from Bungie

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

Comes with 2 classic games:
1) Myth The Fallen Lords
2) Myth 2 Soulblighter

Also includes various expansion packs and strategy guides for both Myth games.

This is one of the best deals I ever picked up. The games may be dated, but they are still awesome nonetheless. BTW - the cutscenes in these games rival anthing that Blizzard has even produced, so I highly recommend this bundle from Bungie.

A Demo Is The Best Way To Decide: Look For A Demo

The best game in the world? Or a colorful frisbee? Look for a game site with a demo to download, and you decide for yourself. I am not a big fantasy gamer nor am I a RTS player. A friend gave me Myth Of The Fallen Lords and I tried it because I have an 800 Mhz Pentium III and I fell in love with Myth. It works beautifully - you've got to endure the learning curve, but, for me, it was worth it. Hating a game because it isn't instantly mastered or "easy" to begin playing, isn't the best way to judge. I enjoy this game immensely, but you may hate it. Find a demo. Try it.

How could anyone give this game 1 star?

... This game has superb graphics, gameplay, story, multiplayer, sound, editors, and everything in between.

It is simplythe BEST GAME OF ALL TIME. Period. Spend a bit of time learning the interface (and basic tactics), and you will find a deep, satisfying game...

I'll put it this way: Myth is not for everyone. If you are so obsessed with "tank rushes," or rely solely on reflexes to beat a game, Myth's depth of play will likely disappoint you. For everyone else, this is the game that will keep you going for ever.

This concludes my review.

Great game with its own flaws

This is a great game. I will stay there. It requires all kinds of thought and mastery of military strategy. Overall the game looks amazong, and the blood & gore is second to only Soldier of Fortune.

This game's downfalls however made it nearly unplayable. The game runs absurdly slow on my system, which is currently a 533 mhz system. This really makes for an awful experience. One you get to the later levels, you will have more load time than play time.

I really recommend this if you have a smoking system, it really is great, however, if you run less than a 533 mhz, you are not in for a treat.

Not bad at all

First, the bad news. This game can be extremely hard on the beginner, but practice the unit controls and camera movements, and it should get easier. Myth II is easier to navigate because you can use the mouse for camera movements.

Now the good part. In almost every strategy game I've played, I had to worry about resources constantly. Myth doesn't have that problem. The tactical aspects of the game are amazing; if you hope to survive, you need to know exactly how to use each of your units. You can't rely on "tank rush" tactics like in traditional strategy games, because in most cases you are completely outnumbered. Finally, the music is just stunning, and I recommend you buy the soundtrack from Bungie Software. These games may frustrate the beginner, but the persistant gamer will find a lot to enjoy here.

A good series, but for a few flaws

First, the camera system. What the hell were they thinking, having the scrolling direction dependent on the camera's current angle? That's the most messed-up control I've ever seen. Second, the lack of any sort of mechanism for morale. While your dwarves and bowmen will flee a melee, every soldier whose primary purpose is hand-to-hand combat will always fight to the death. This is completely unrealistic. Third, your units never grow fatigued. A soldier who's just lopped the heads off a dozen zombies will run as fast and swing more effectively (thanks to the veteran unit mechanism) than one who's been hiding since the battle started.

While it does have these gaping flaws, the good points of the game are numerous as well. It frees the player who enjoys the tactical aspects of a battle from the hideous specter of resource management that consumes 80% of your time in other RTS games. The mechanism for veteran units is great, if a bit overpowered; the physics model for archers and dwarves is great as well; and the 3-D battlefields are a great improvement over the standard flat-terrain-with-impassable-decorations field of most RTS games.

Myth was a great pioneer in the field of real-time strategy without resource management, but it's since been superceded by games such as Sid Meier's Antietam and the forthcoming Shogun: Total War.

An Adult Game

Apparently not everyone sees the ultimate coolness of this game. I can only assume they're suffering from Quake-think - that a game should be first-person, and all you've got to do is kill stuff, collect keys, and open doors.

I like that there's no "me" there - I can only make suggestions to my troops. They'll run away if they want to, they'll screw up and lob bombs at their buddies (or maybe gnomes are just easily offended and are taking offense at their teammates' short-jokes). This game is rated for adults not only because of the splattering blood, but it takes an adult sense of patience and strategy. Have fun.

Colorful Frisbee

Do not, under any circumstances, buy this game. I wish there had been someone like me to stop me when I bought it. It gets one star for not blowing up my computer when I put it in the drive. I want my money back.

First of all, the game much too hard when you're first starting out. Be prepared to die a thousand deaths. The camera controls are horrible, and really just a bad idea. Its almost like driving a car, and the action is through the windshield. Very annoying, stick to classic scrolling. You start with a set amount of soldiers/archers/etc, all which die extremely easily. The storyline is weak and uninteresting, bearly tied to the story. If you actually manage to beat this game without destroying the cd the ending is as unsatisfying as the rest of the game. Save your money for... just about anything else.
