A Class Act

I don't know how anyone can not like this game. FEAR is a class act from start to finish. I bought FEAR and HL2 around the same time. I played HL2 once and then played FEAR. I was so blown away by FEAR I found myself playing it over and over on every setting. In my opinion everything about FEAR is superb. The weapons and firefights are the most vicious and satisfying I have ever experienced in a game, unlike those pathetic pea-shooters we were given in D3. The graphics and character models are excellent, but above all the music and sound effects (including the character voices) create a truly creepy and atmospheric feel unmatched by any other game. There's even a bit of humour thrown in with the hilarious but treacherous Norton Mapes character, a computer-programmers "inside" joke, a parody of the overweight slobby programmer, and the very funny voice-mail on his desk phone. FEAR also has the most stylish ending I've ever seen in any game. Im looking forward to an expansion pack or sequel for this more eagerly than I am awaiting the HL2 sequels.
Wow - Excellent Game Play

I am an avid player of first person shooters. F.E.A.R. is the first game to ever give me goose bumps and chills. The action is great and the story line was creepy in a good way. This at the top of my list for FPS games.
I think this game is worth it!!

I have read most, if not all of the reviews. I read how some are complaining that it is "too easy" or "didn't last long enough", etc. Seems to me that there are those in the gaming world, probably the younger set, who don't appreciate the work that goes into coding a game and then releasing same. As a retired LAN Admin who has been privy to seeing some of the game codes over the years, I doubt very much that the people complaining would even be able to get a game off the ground.
I like the game and am enjoying it. It's an interesting game and if you have the right kind of computer
, it really shows out for itself.
Good, but still behind HL2

Overall fun game. I am about half way through and enjoy the gameplay and story so far. Graphics are good, but I still think that HL2 graphics are slightly better. Also, a map feature would be good for those times when I save and then come back a week later. Map or a way to block the way I just came would allow me to start up going in the right direction instead of backtracking for 15 minutes.
Goosebumps!

Only two games have ever given me goosebumps - Wolfenstein (Crypt level) and FEAR
That's quite an achievement, as I'm not very easily spooked at all, and I have to admit to being slightly humiliated by the fact that a mere 'game' could induce such an effect in me.
The physics side could have benefited from a few tweaks (hence 4 stars), but if you've got a high-spec PC that allows ramping up of all the quality settings, you're in for a genuine treat.
Don't be put-off by the indroduction scene (car drop-off point) - I was very disappointed with the first few minutes of game play, as it looks and feels very dated and slow. The game seemed to have a very low frame rate for the first few minutes, and this is not the only game that has this strange effect. STALKER for instance is well known for this phenomenon.
After this initial sluggishness, the frames come fast and smooth, and the game actually feels real, rather than that disconcerting 'detached' feeling you can experience with other comparable games.
The overall AI is very good indeed. Not perfect, and let's face it, what AI can ever be described as perfect? Even so, the AI is more than good enough to keep you wide awake.
I've played many, many games in the past, and this has to be one of my all-time favourites, as it's dragged me back time-after-time to start a new game - each time at a harder setting, and I still get a real buzz from it without fail.
FEAR has already become a 'gamers game', and I for one can easily see why.
Thinking of trying it? Go on - treat yourself to a REAL game.

Good game if you're looking to be scared

I bought this game for my husband because it was recommended by a friend. It's a good first person shooter type game if you're into the gore and loud scary sounds. My husband probably played this game for a day then stopped. He didn't like how you need to keep the cd's in the computer in order to play the game. It needed to be loaded each time which bothered him. The game itself was just okay.
Hype once again fails to meet what the game really is

Wow this game is overrated beyond belief. I cannot even comprehend in the slightest how a game like this got any popularity. I mean alright it has Great graphics but it is a system HOG!
Pros
-Grahpics are excellent even at medium settings they were beautiful.
-Good combat aresenal and i was glad there isn't a "super weapon" or a cheap weapon that makes the game too easy. Halo 1 pistol *cough cough* lol
Cons
-HUGE system requirements. My computer is brand new and this game still maxed it out.
-Game is freaky but they mostly use a disgting and over the top amount of violence and gore. I would not reccomend this game to someone under the age of 20 or 21.
-Game was way too easy even at the hardest difficulty. I found myself flying through levels at what ithought was an almost exaggerated pace. And this was without using the slow-mo ability.
-Online play is not very good. It's not very fun and it can be a nuisance at times just to play it.
-Story line is weak and it feels like it ends without much explination.
If you are really looking for a FPS i would suggest BattleField 2: Modern Combat or maybe Quake 4 if your looking for a mostly multiplayer games.
Single Player wise go with Call of Duty 2.
not as good as hl2

Coming from a fan of Doom, Far Cry, Half life, Dungeon siege, etc. This is the game I've been waiting for, and my god, it doesn't disappoint!
In my honest opinion, this game blows away half life 2 in every way, and is probably better than Doom 3 also. The enemy AI is incredible, the minute you think you have an enemy figured out, the game throws a curve ball at you unexpectedly. The story line is very interesting. Game play can be very tense with some frightening moments, but is also very realistic; especially with some of the small stuff, like you can perform melee attacks...but you can only carry 3 guns at a time, etc. Keep you hooked every step of the way. This actually performs better on my computer than any game I've purchased in the past few years, include doom 3 and half life 2. The trick is too buy a good video card, Geforce 6800 or above, Raddeon 9800 or above, since this game is very dependent on video card, but not so much on processor (I only have a 2 gig processor, it performs flawlessly on high resolution and most settings on high).
what are you waiting for?? Go buy it! ;-)
Entertaining. . . But Several Disappointing Flaws

Overall Score: 7.5 out of 10
The Good: Graphics are very good. Sound is excellent, although there were a few sounds - such as barely touched boxes - that seemed unrealistically loud as if they are thrown across the room. The slow-motion feature is well implemented. The battle sequences are entertaining and suspenseful. The horror aspects are somewhat frightening.
The Bad: The single player campaign is short. The environments are often sterile and repetitive. It appears that every office and hallway has a wrench and hammer laying around. Too many maze-like offices and hallways. Many of the environments appear the same except for some slight texture changes.
The most disappointing element in F.E.A.R. was the story and characterization. Deus Ex or Half-Life this is not. The characters are very generic and sterile. The story is not well implemented. There are many occasions when files are uploaded and buttons pressed to activate certain machinery without any idea why. Even when the game is finished, there is not a full understanding of what the story was about.
Overall, F.E.A.R. is an enjoyable first-person shooter; however, it lacks environment variety and the story and characterization that would have made it excellent.
