Some gamers have been hard on this game since the advent of Rome Total War but as far as a fun rts games go this game delivers a nice bang for the buck
If you like the Age of Empires this rendition of Roman Imperialism is great!
Sound and graphics are cool and charmingly accurate.

Buy this game. The best RTS

Praetorians

This game is probably the best RTS I've tried (then again, The Battle for Middle-Earth II wasn't half-bad). The only problem is that it's been discontinued by the manufacturer, and the bad graphics ruin a good game. On the upside, this means that the only thing stopping this game is your operating system. Virtually every version of Windows can run it. So despite what you may have heard (be it other reviews or whatever) you should buy this game!!!

Praetorians

Praetorians is mostly just fighting and trying to control villages. Its not that much of a strategy game. In Praetorians you can control either the Romans or barbarians. This game is like Celtic Kings: Rage of War but when you make troops you make them in units like 30 or 12 instead if just 1. The units in Praetorians can have formations like the testudo so it kind cool to watch troops march instead of running around like an angry mob. There is a pretty long Roman campaign. In this campaign you travel across the ancient world as the Roman army with great generals like Caesar, Crassus, etc. The sad part is that in this game generals, Centurions, etc. can't fight and are just there to get in the way so keep them in the back of your army. The campaign are based on Julius Caesars conquests and every several campaigns you unlock, you get a cool 2minute movie. Overall this game is pretty good if you like action and fighting and like jumping right into war without a second thought 'cause these barbarians are pretty fast.

Pretty but simple

I had this game for almost a week before I sold it to EB Games (when they were still buying used PC games). If you're looking for more of Rome: Total War just get the expansion pack, not this. The graphics are nice, but the gameplay is so limited that I felt like I was watching someone else play. The units were way too small and the controls weren't very fluid. Having never been a fan of stragedy games before, I went on the prowl for some after Medieval: Total War but found that Total War games are the only ones I like. Some others like the technical aspects of campaigning in other games, but I'm more of a battle map player. So if you loved Total War, stick with it. Stay away from similiar games.

I admit that I haven't finished the game yet but I've been enjoying playing it the last couple of days.

Basically you command legions of the Romans. Archers, legionares, horsemen etc. On a terrain you have to beat the enemy.

The units all have their special abilities, it's best to have spearman at the front to stop the enemy, horsemen to do quick attacks and archers for long range attack. Because of differences in heights it is important to have archers on higher positions.

This all makes for fun. The graphis are really not great but I think most strategy-games players like me are not really interested in that. The sounds are fun and it has good historical accuracy with the names of all the tribes and their leaders.

Worth the low price

Best Tactical War game I own. Love it!

This is an action packed game. Looks good. Exposes you to some Roman history. I love the scenerio where the Gauls are attacking the fort and you have to survival. That is hard as hell, I beat the Gauls once. Lots of fun. Wyatt Kaldenberg

I think Praetorians is very fun and challanging. It has what I think is good graphics. It has very cool stuff. It enables you to do stuff like build war machines like ballistas and catipults and fortifacations. I espcially enjoyed the siege missions. In those types of missions you have to defend or attack a fortress. The diferent types of soldiers have abilities that come in handy. You are taken into Gaul, Briton Egyp, and the middle east. Another important is that you don't have to collect recources

Disappointing

I bought this game because my friend said it was excellent, however he's never been a very good gamer, I thought the no resource management idea was ok, but it ruins half the point of an RTS, and strategy is all about careful management of resources to fund your army, because, if you dont have any resources, you dont have an army ;-) I'd say ok for someone who doesn't really know how to play a REAL RTS, but if your an expert, I'd save up for Warcraft 3:The Frozen Throne, and if you haven't got the normal Warcraft 3, go buy it!

Seriously flawed AI and interface killed the game

It is an excellent concept completely spoiled by bad design!

In the heat of the battle an extra click on already selected group can select ALL of you troups and instead a single move/attack you have all your army moving to a position. In this time the CPU kills you with ease.
There is no EASY way to tell the arches to shoot a specific target. Especially if there are 10 enemy troops rushing towards you in a pack. As a result they don't shoot the critical ladders but some stupid axeman. Short while after that you have all the ladders on your walls and in a minute all the enemy army is in your camp. Even if you survive this then it is real pain to target the ladders on the walls. You can spend a minute to shoot down one and the CPU does not wait that much.
THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME!
