This game is simply one of the best I've seen for GBA. The difficulty yet complexity is simple enough for the most inexperienced gamer but challenging enough for a hardcore gamer. I highly recomend this game for everone, even the most casual gamer. The military units and cool battle animations are fun to watch. The multiplayer modes are also great. You have the freedom even to design your own maps.

Great Fun!
A great strategy game for anyone!!! Even though the graphics are like cartoons, it makes a great strategy/war game. And now you're probably thinking "Oh, how boring can you get?"
It is definitely NOT boring. It has an engaging plot, fun gameplay, and again, GREAT strategy. You can also play Multi-Player with up to 4 friends (Or enemies, whichever you feel). Also, there is NO innapropariate violence in the entire game.
So now I rate the following: Gameplay is perfect, so are graphics, so is strategy, Do I need to continue?
The one that started it all

My first Advance Wars game was the second game (Black Hole Rising). It was my first strategy game. So I got into Fire Emblem and Rebel Star Tactical Command, and the DS Advance Wars: Dual Strike. After playing all of these games, I started looking for the first Advance Wars game. I lucked out one day and found a used copy in a Gamestop store.
I didn't know what was going on at first. I was fighting Olaf and Grit, and other characters that you play and fight with on your team in the other AW instalments. I finished it and found the answer I was looking for.
The replay value is very high. You collect coins at the end of a battle and can use them to buy maps, map cases (don't know what those are for yet), and CO's like grit and Drake once you've cleared the game's campaign mode.
If you want to play a friend you can share the system and pass it when your turn is done. Nice for those who don't have another system, game, and link.
I think this was the easiest out of the three AW games. This isn't a huge problem though. You can always try to get higher rankings on levels in the campaign and war room.
All in all this is a great game that will work your mind and your thumbs for many hours.
The Coolest!

To put it simply, it is the best turn based strategy video game EVER. I bought a game boy strictly for this game, and it was worth the combined purchase (on a side suggestion-get a power pack for your game boy. Much cheaper in the long run then batteries). The computer plays pretty intellengently, and as a single player game it offers loads of replayability and fun. I would buy it for that alone, but it is eclipsed by the multiplayer mode. This offers a wide canvas of strategic thought to anyone that is into strategy games (don't buy this game if you are not). Most people that play are hooked after one game. If you do get this game, play the tutorial. It may seem like a chore, but you can learn a lot about the features of each unit.

One 8-year-old and one 10-year-old disappeared utterly from the face of planet Earth after beginning a multiplayer game. If anyone out there sees my sons, please remind them to return before it's time to go off to college.

This is a great game!!! If you are looking for something that combines elements of a puzzle game (like tetris or lemmings) with a strategy game (like worms or a variety of PC games) you have found it. The games graphics are perfectly suited and are nice and brite, which is nice given the dark screen. The games difficulty ramps quite nicely and you will never feel lost if you just go through the training mode. The save function is perfect and allows you to play for just a couple moments between saves. It even has a multiplayer link option. I usually give great games 4 stars since they often lack originality -- not here. There is nothing else like it and it will probably remain a staple for your GBA for years.

Don't normally write reviews but this game deserves one. If you like RTS games this is a must. If you don't you may find it boring. I have had this in my GBA for the past year and anywhere I am that I need to blow some time and have a little fun this game does it. Excellent design in what the units do and a great balance of units. Playing the computer has pretty good AI. If you don't think about your moves it can beat you. If you really get experienced and think about them every time you will usually win. Top 5 games I have ever played.
Frickin' Addicting!

Man ... I just got totally sucked into this game. It's a lot of fun. Not an action game at all ... you have to use your head. I think if you liked Pikmin for the GC, you'll like this game. And, I'll go the other way on this one then too ... if you like this game ... make sure you get Pikmin on the GameCube.
Get it. Period.

Are you a fan of military strategy games? Doesn't matter. Even if you play nothing but first person shooters you're going to love Advance Wars.
This is the game that prompted me to buy a Gameboy Advance SP -- after reading a review of Advance Wars, I knew I had to have it. I haven't regretted my decision in the least. This is the best 20 bucks I've ever spent on a video game.
Even if you're new to strategy games, Advance Wars makes everything incredibly simple for you as it includes a Field Training tutorial that you have to complete before proceeding to the actual battle campaign. Consider it basic training... but it'll be the most fun you could ever hope to have while learning the ropes. The menus, commands and gameplay are incredibly simple, but the game itself is amazingly complex. This is a game that will keep you enthralled for days.
If you have a Gameboy Advance and don't already have Advance Wars, buy it now. If you don't have a Gameboy Advance, more's the pity -- you'll be missing out on an incredible gaming experience.
