Change of Pace

I wasn't expecting much when I picked up DDR Disney Channel Mix. The song list is below. As you can see, nothing is extremely exciting; however, this game is a nice change of pace from the songlists of Supernova and Supernova 2 on PS2. The songs are quirky/silly/low in production value, but that gives the game its charm. It's time to just have fun and be silly. There are also some new DDR songs on here as well as some old favorites. Don't expect easier difficulty because it's Disney Channel Mix. It is(or is very close to) the difficulty levels of your standard DDR game. I say pick it up, it's reasonably priced and it's fun.
I wish it had more songs though.

We bought this for my 9-year old daughter, and it has been a great fun for her and the whole family. What I like about the Disney version is that I don't have to worry about the lyrics being inappropriate for a 9 year-old.

My husband and I just purchased the Disney Dance Revolution mat and game a few days ago. We bought it with the intention that it would be fun for our daughters who are ten and eleven years old. They absolutely love it! What we did'nt expect, however, was that my husband and I would like it so much, too!! The music is really catchy and cute, and the dances are challenging but not too much so... While it is a little too difficult for our youngest daughter ( age 5 ) to beat the opponent in a "dance-off" she does not really realize she has not won because we are all cheering her on so loudly as she wiggles and shakes to some of her and her sister's favorite Disney songs. The whole family really enjoys taking turns using the dance mat and we look forward to purchasing another so we can dance side by side. The girls have a lot of giggles at how silly mom and dad look dancing to the Cheetah Girls and High School Musical songs and my husband is fast becoming a Dance Revolution expert(who knew?). Although we do not own the other Dance Revolution games our ten year old says she prefers the Disney version we have to the other types (which she has used at a friend's house) especially because she says the other mats have, in her words, "weird songs" . I'm guessing that would be those "weird songs" from former decades like the 70's,80's and 90's. Actually, I have to agree with her. These are pretty cool songs that are great to dance to. So, if you like Disney music and want something that really is a blast for the whole family, we definatly recommend this product!!

The good:
Fun, catchy songs that I immediately enjoyed playing.
Easy unlock process - you just play in free play mode to unlock songs

The bad:
Game level is a bit easier than other DDR games - I usually play standard to heavy in DDR, and with this game, I have passed every song on heavy/ expert on my first try. They were complicated enough to hold my interest, but I don't feel at all challenged here.
Only about half as many songs as a normal DDR game, graphics are clunky
The dancers, as always in DDR (I just turn them off)

For the price I found it a worthy buy - as a regular player I get bored of the same songs all the time, and so any new game that helps me mix up my workout is much appreciated. But it certainly isn't up to par with the other DDR games, much as I am enjoying playing it.

However, I could see new DDR players really enjoying this, because the music is catchy and accessible and the steps aren't too hard.

If you are a regular player, know that this is a fun diversion that you will enjoy for a good while, but isn't going to become your challenging new favorite.

Don't be fooled, not your normal DDR game

I'm SO happy i didn't splurge for the combo set (mat & game) b/c this game is/was VERY disappointing. I own 3 other DDR games for PS2 & PSone, and had high expectations for this game, apparently TOO high of expectations. The gameplay is like all the other DDR games, except it it TOO easy, and not challenging at all. I guess i should've expected this, being a kids game and all, but was expecting the standard DDR level of challenges even on the advanced levels.

BE CAUTIOUS: If you are purchasing this for a child, or tween, be careful because the songs are NOT the originals as sung by the stars shown on the cover art. They ARE the songs that WERE sung by the stars but they are covers by sub-par karaoke type singers, so if the kid is expecting to hear Miley/Hannah, the high school musical gang or even the cheetah girls singing the songs, they are in for a let down. But i'm sure the younger kids might not really pick up on this.

Before i played this game i was excited to be able to dance along to these great songs that have helped the disney channel become the #1 cable channel (2007), and that i have come to know and love, just like so many other kids around the country and the world for that matter, but was truly let down that it's not the original stars singing, and was letdown again by how paltry & non-challenging the gameplay is. To newcomers in the DDR world this may probably be a good game to start off with before branching off into the other DDR games offered for the various gaming systems, but for the frequent/die-hard DDR gamers, this is NOT the game for you.

Fantastic hit with the girls and it's for TWEENS not adults!!!

This was a HUGE hit with my 9-year-old and her friends! This features songs from Hannah Montana and High School Musical, as well as other songs from current tv hits on the Disney Channel. Also, the scoring system is easier for kids to comprehend than the other DDR products (SuperNova, etc.), which are geared towards adults.

This product is clearly geared toward tweens, not adults! I'm not sure why the reviewers before me all failed to grasp that from the packaging. It is for tweens who love Hannah Montana and High School Musical, and it is a great DDR product for their age group!!!

Also, just to comment on another prior review, the one with the suggestion that it should have included music from "Cars" and other Disney classics -- this is clearly marketed to the tweens that dance around and sing to Hannah Montana and High School Musical, and it's NOT intended for 5-year-old boys who watch "Cars" and "Lion King"!!!!

Dancing The Disney Way

This past year has really been all about rhythm games for the video game market. With the smash success of classics like Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock, and the amazing gameplay of Rock Band, which takes great classics like Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead Or Alive, into the beat of your own guitar rifts, it is hard to find a game that can be beat. But, that sadly, hasn't been shown as well with Dance Dance Revolution, the orignal music dance game. While it has faired well, it just hasn't been able to really keep up the pace of gameplay. Now, a new spin will try to make Dance Dance Revolution more appealing to a younger audience, but is it just a rhythm or 2 left feet?

Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Channel Edition for the Playstation 2, takes the DDR gamble, and brings in the appeal to a younger audience by using songs from Disney Channel staples you can dance your way to. You get songs from hits like Hannah Montana, Kim Possible, That's So Raven, and their made for TV movies like The Cheetah Girls and especially High School Musical. The graphics fair well, as you step each and every way to the beat of the songs, but the gameplay misses out for die hard older fanatics of the game franchise. The feeling of the game feels a bit old, and doesn't measure to choosing songs from classics like Cars or other movies.

All in all, Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Channel Edition is good for young fans of these Disney Channel shows, and those who think Miley Cyrus is hot, but misses the rhythm of the dance floor for veterans. I think it is time for die hard fans of DDR to find something better to play with music too. Perhaps Guitar Hero would be a better buy for the Playstation 2.

I'm not sure if this has happened to other people but when I tried to load this game with a generic memory card it would get stuck while it's trying to read the memory card. When I switched it to a PlayStation brand memory card it worked fine. That's the first time I've seen that happen. Other than that it's a pretty fun game and unlike the other DDR games I own, this one, my daughter can relate to better. We have lots of fun and also get a lot of exercise playing it.

I am very pleased with the dance pads. You just have to be careful when putting away. After a month one of the pads has a slight tear in it. Overall it is alot of fun and great exercise. The kids and I love taking turns with them. Even my 3 year loves it too.

Good for newbies, not for DDR masters

This game is clearly aimed at introducing younger kids to DDR. Its Disney theme and overly-cute look will draw in Disney Channel fans who are new to DDR, but hardcore arrow-stompers (like yours truly) may get bored quickly.

This game was developed by Keen Games, not Konami. There are a lot of little quirks that may frustrate experienced players, but won't bother newbies. Among them are: grading based on stars instead of letters, Marvelous steps being weighed much heavier than Perfects, arrow colors not reflecting their timing well, and songs swapping jarringly between the song selected and a "background" song during song and option selection.

The songs are not bad. The steps were created by Konami, and there are some surprisingly fun stepcharts for the Disney Channel songs. The Konami songs are mostly repeats from earlier games. As for the Disney Channel songs, whether you like those is purely a matter of taste.

I have several major complaints with the game. One, the background videos for the Konami songs are simply awful. The faces in "Candy" are distracting; a person's eyes tend to snap to a face when it appears. The video for "Brilliant 2U" is such a dreadful whirl of color and motion that the song is nearly undanceable! Why in the world did they replace the original Konami videos? I recommend turning the brightness way down on background videos, or turning them off altogether. Much worse, though, is the fact this game supposedly has 40 songs, but for practical purposes there are only 37. According to Keen Games, the only way to unlock the final three songs is to get a full Marvelous combo on each of the first three levels. That's all but impossible even for DDR champions - as of this writing I have seen no postings on any of the major DDR boards saying that anyone has managed it yet - but somehow the target audience is supposed to be able to manage it? Shame on them for not giving those songs a timed unlock as a fallback option.
