Changing the way video game soccer is played

Awesome game! Makes great use of the new Wii controls. A little difficult at first because it is not really like any other soccer game before it. Once you abandon your old way of thinking about soccer video games, you will come to love this game. Other games focus on controlling one player at a time. This lets you control every player on your team at once. Setup plays 5 passes in advance, set defenses before the ball comes, control a single man with the Wii remote. This game is superb. GET IT!

fantastic game with layers of sophistication

Most of the other reviews have focused on the innovative use of the Wii controllers and how much fun the game is - and these are all true.

As a parent, we were concerned about how complex the game might be as we were giving it to my son for his 9th birthday. It turns out basic game play is pretty simple and you can have a lot of fun just knowing the basic controls. You will be playing and having fun in 5 minutes or less.

However, there are layers of sophistication here. My son has been studying the user manual and using the training modes, and his play has improved quite a bit. It will be tough keeping up with him.

As a learning tool, the game does a great job teaching insight to soccer strategy for my son (who plays travel soccer).

Note that the game is a little too complicated for my 6 year old child, so I would recommend this game for anyone 8 years and older.

Awesome but...

...why take away co-op (2 players on the same team)?
This has always been in every Winning Eleven game since its inception and quite frankly it's the single most disappointing thing ever to a nearly perfect game...Konami you should not have done this... *sigh*

For us old games, this is the Future...

I am 33y old and played the game for couple hours with my younger brother in-law and we both loved it. That game remind me the earlier PC games on various systems (Atari, Commodore 64, Amstrad 6128, spectrum, etc) where the game play was the first reason on buying/playing a game and not the graphics.

It is revolutionary the way you manage your team. Definitely takes time to be familiar but the tutorials are excellent to guide you on anything you need to know about this game.

That is not the game that you can pick up and play correct right away without going through the tutorial but is challenging and difficult enough to push you further on learning and become better on it.

If you are NOT a big fan of soccer games then my suggestion is to check some youtube videos or rent it from a video store before buying it. Definitely you'll be surprised.

My final verdict for that game is 100% awesome and you'll love it.

Awesome Soccer Game

I already had Winning Eleven 9 for PS2 and I have to say the Wii version is a great improvement. The controls really are a lot of fun and give you a lot of control. The basic look and feel of the game are the same and anything that has changed I would say has been an improvement. I have component cables for my HD wide-screen TV so the game gives me full 480p wide-screen (unlike the PS2 WE9 which had no wide-screen) which looks great. They took out all those different viewing options which looked cool but were totally impractical (I always used the view that was pulled out the farthest so I could see everything that was happening) and replaced it with 2 views, and I think that was a good choice.

I wish I could have rated this 4 1/2 stars as I have a couple of minor complaints. The main one is that on defense I wish I could directly control a player rather than the sort of "manager" role you play of just instructing everyone how to behave. Sometimes the player with the ball takes off and I want to grab a player and chase him but I have to figure out another way to get the computer-controlled guys to go after him. I wish the American MLS league was included (where's Beckham!?). My last complaint is not really the game's fault - each time I have tried to play an online game there hasn't been anyone available to play against.

Overall, this game is great. Just complicated enough to give you a lot of control but not too much that it isn't fun. Highly recommended.

...you will become addicted to this amazing game. Even better now that it is on the WII - for the aforementioned reasons (see other reviews). Great action smooth gameplay. I like Champions Road the best - when you improve your team by acquiring players from other squads.

Finally, a real soccer game...

The wait for a genuine soccer game is over, Pro Evo 2008 exceeds all expectations thanks to an imaginative control scheme that plays like a cross between a traditional sports title and a real time strategy game. The point/drag/click interface works beautifully on offense, allowing you to patiently build up attacks while controlling every player on screen. The defensive controls pale in comparison, but still offer more than enough options to repel most attacks as long as you don't succumb to the 'chase the ballhandler and attempt to slide tackle at every opportunity' syndrome. Online play is close to flawless, if a bit vanilla. Hopefully they'll beef up the online component in the next release. Overall, a great game and well worth the forty bucks.

What a great game -- I just got it yesterday and spent way too much time last night trying to get all the nuances down. I don't really care about graphics, I care about fun -- and this game is FUN!
Besides being fun, it is the most tactically correct soccer game I have ever encountered. Figuring out where to place players for runs into the box, perfecting give and go passes, etc. -- it is all there! If you are a soccer (football) fan, go buy this game!!!

The best football game ever made

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for the Wii is the best football game ever made. There is no doubts regarding that, despite the game shows some flaws. Graphics are average, at best, and it definitely lacks more leagues and teams. However, gaming is all about gameplay and I can't have a better football game in your couch without it. Unlike other football games, you can actually control the tactics used by your team. Off ball running, offside trap, and many other intricate tactics are available in a very intuitive control scheme. Unlike other franchises, Konami is really getting football games in to a higher level of development. Once you try it, there is no way you can return to the older scheme.

game controls are too difficult to get used to

I bought the game for my husband because he plays the PC version. I got it for Wii so we could play more easily with 2 people. When we started playing the Wii version, the controls are too tricky and it has a delayed reaction. We don't really play the game now because the controls are too hard to get used to.
