Good but not great

This game is good but when a game like Dead or Alive 2 graces the the Dreamcast and comes with way better gameplay well VF3 comes up short. However if your a fighting fanatic get this game.

Lacks the polish of Soul Calibur but by FAR more rewarding

Firstly Virtual Fighter 3TB lacks any sort of graphical polish whatsoever. The game is lacking in graphics when compared to Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur but makes up for it in the technical and deep fighting fighting engine. This makes this a stand out title when compared to the watered down, all icing no cake titles mentioned above.

The game is a must have for 3D fight fans. The characters are fun and the backrounds are decent and they add some strategy to the fighting as they are not simply a flat surface.

The game is a must have, please go get it if you have a Dreamcast

GOOD OLD SCHOOL FUN!!!!

If like 3-d fighting games of fighting games in general, you should get this game. While this can't be compared to Soul Calibur, this is a good martial arts game. (Should be rated Everyone).

A wonderful game for those who enjoy spending many hours (or days) really learning how to even play. Not that that is bad, this game was made by Sega and is thus as close to realistic as they come. The depth of gameplay is amazing and the replayability is very high.

It might have been fun

Granted I am well aware that people say you can't compare this with Soul Calibur. However you CAN compare this with DOA 2 therefore I can not really find any real reason to play this game.(I have played DOA 2 so I can say this.) It does have some neat specials, some realistic attacks and ok extra's. Also it has about no replay value so if you really want to play it you should go to the arcade. It really would have been good if it were to be released prior to Soul Calibur.

Why is everyone so obsessed?

Why is this game such a big deal? It gets good ratings and acclaim from the critics. I read your reviews and others and decided to rent it. My first and only reaction was how pathetically easy it was. The moves were easy to pull off, and when i began, i mainly used them. Then as the game progressed and i found that the opponents were actually good at blocking them, i began to devolve my strategy into first combos then just mindnumbing pushing of three buttons in order. Punch-Punch-Punch. All you had to do was evade an opponent attack and then just do that combo. Evading is remarkably easy as all the characters have a remarkably long wind up, but if you fail, you are caught in a looong combo that you have absolutely no chance to get out of. The computer took half my "life" away with one combo followed by hits when i was down, because I COULD NOT GET UP. The controls are sluggish and the graphics bit the big one. Can someone please explain why it is so good?

Why would anyone buy this game?

Man, this game stunk. Sorry, there's no other way to put it.

Let's start with the graphics, which will have you checking the jewel case to make sure you didn't load up Virtua Fighter 1 by accident. The characters look like they were built with Legos, which would be understandable in 1996, but in the age of Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur, sumo wrestlers should not have corners.

Next, the gameplay. After playing Virtua Fighter 2 endlessly, I was ready for a challenge. After playing this game, I was still ready for a challenge. With little effort, you can pound away on any character like you were tenderizing beef. Just punch first, then mash together a few more buttons to complete your "combo." Repeat until you get bored, which won't take long. Utterly miserable.

So, let's see, poor graphics, awful gameplay . . . . I would have given this game one star, but I'm saving that for the next version of Shaq Fu. If you can think of any reason to buy this game over Dead or Alive 2 or Soul Calibur, you've got more imagination than I have.

Fun, but not as good as the arcade.

As with the previous Virtua Fighter console versions, this game provides realistic movements and much better control than button-smashers like Tekkon. The characters have a huge amount of attacks and defenses (only some of which are described in the booklet.) The 3D, varying-elevation backgrounds are nice, but not rendered as well as the arcade version. Downsides - the graphics are a bit choppy and the standard Dreamcast controller makes some multi-button and combination moves a bit awkward. You can program the controller through the options menu, but this is not something most experienced VF'ers want to do. All in all, very entertaining, realistic fighting.

Great 3D fighter

I am not a huge fan of the 3D fighting games, I prefer 2D fighters, but I must say Virtua fighter 3tb is a great game. I bought this game a few days ago and played it, and I liked it. It is different from 2D fighters in the sense that it adds more realism to the bouts, no fancy fireballs or stuff like that, just pure strategic hand to hand contact fighting. It takes a while to know your moves but once you get it you will enjoy this game. I gave it three stars because I still haven't learned the moves, and I hear Soul Calibur is the better choice, but do not dismiss this game just yet, it will definetely deliver.

Boring, boring, boring

Graphics are below average, action is slow. This game looks like it belongs on a Sega Saturn. Compared to offerings like Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2, this game is utter crap. Unless you are a fighting game nut you will not like this game.
