Could Be Better

Snow Cross Championship Racing, when I first heard this name I was a bit excited. I myself love racing games and this one sounded great. To bad it does not live up to the expectations. Everything in the game just seemed so, well, so, so. The graphics were alright, nothing spectacular. The idea is fun and so is the game, but it gets boring fast without to much diffrence among the games courses. Also, as with most racing games the sound is nothing to write home about either, but it gets the job done. Control is a bit touchy at times but overall no major complaints there. It's an okay racing game, but there are better ones out there.

Good solid game if you are bored with racing cars.

This game is pretty much what you would expect from reading its description, but nothing beyond that. So if you are in the mood to race a loud snowmobile on hilly tracks (where there are plenty of opportunities to go airborne) and with the occasional ice sheet to lose control on, then you won't be disappointed.

I didn't start thinking it was fun until I lowered the SFX volume (unless you like the sound of a chainsaw in your ear) and I started playing from the 1st person view, where the sense of speed really starts coming through. Then it got fun !

A couple of things that could have made this game great instead of just good... More than just 3 other opponents would have made the game exciting. One of the best parts of the game is when you see the other racers disappearing into valleys and going airborne on some hill ahead of you, but since there are a total of 4 players in the races, there isn't enough of this. The other thing that would have been great is to add a track which is really wide, like coming down the side of the mountain with all kinds of trees, and moguls. Then you could really have fun with snowmobiles (weaving in and out of trees, doing hockey stops etc.) I felt like the tracks were a little too narrow and restrictive for what the snowmobiles could really do.

Also, I couldn't stop thinking how much fun it would be to be chased on the snowmobile ala James Bond. (Or something like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit)

So all in all, this is a good game with solid graphics, I just think the designers could have added some more fun things to do with the snowmobiles instead of just your standard racing on tracks. But it is by no means a bad or failed game and it lives up to its advertising.
