A patch that works

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 8
Date: November 15, 2007

I previously gave this game low marks for the whiteout issue . . . I truly don't feel the general game specifications on the box precluded using the game on a computer with an integrated graphics chipset. Anyway, I recently downloaded the patch from the manufacturer's website (beware: they don't exactly identify what the patch is supposed to fix), and I'm happy to say I never had another whiteout, even with my "basic" computer. It's a good game, too. I do feel that Poirot spends a little too much time walking (it would be so much better if you could click on an island map to get him to a different location), but, overall, they capture the feeling of the book, gave the gamer some good puzzles to solve, and offered up some lovely visuals and music. Lots of fun and I'll play it again. Sorry I'm unable to upgrade the amount of stars for this review!

Selfish game companys

I'm sure this game would be very enjoyable if the game company was not so selfish and money hungry that they wouldn't do something to protect their good name. The other two games were fantastic and this problem with the white screen is so infuriating I'm tempted to let them know that many people will never trust them to make a good game ever again. I probably would do it if I felt eloquent enough. I would love to be able to ply this gme I BOUGHT AND PAID FOR. If only they would make a patch, I'm sure it would take very little resorces and would result in very many satisfied customers.

Another good Christie mystery

I have really enjoyed following Hercule Poirot and his sidekick as they try to solve the murder of an actress who seemed to be disliked by many people staying at the hotel. Hope there are more Agatha Christie mystery games in the works.

Very Dissapointing...

I enjoyed the 1st AC game very much, the 2nd one was so-so, far too much talking and not enough gaming not to mention some very strange puzzle solutions.

I found 3 to be worse than ever. Not ony is the voice acting horrible (it is NOT David Suchet, in fact it sounds like a Spanish Poirot) but Hastings looks like Mr. Potato Head.

The fact that you go "back in time" as Poirot was intriguing but once again, talk, talk, talk and there was no direction to the beginning of the game. There was a stranger finger, you go "back in time" and then wham you just start walking around. There is no introduction to the other characters, etc.

I do not reccomend this game at all. The only reason I gave it 2 stars at all was because the graphics were nice (aside from Hastings).

Waste Of Money

After a hard week I was looking forward to relaxing with the new Agatha Christie game, "Evil Under The Sun". It started out terrific. But then I got this "white screen of death". Maybe just a computer glitch. Nope! After numerous retrys, reloading, and resetting video I discovered on the net that many folks are having the same problem. Adventure Company claims its our computer's video deficiency! Wrong. I have a 3 month old new Gateway with a system that exceeds the requirements of the game. Apparently the company just blows that off. Don't waste your money on a product with this type of bug in it.

I enjoyed this game once the company fixed it. I have also played another game from the Adventure Company and it was fine. This game had the same parameters as the other game but it "whites out" after play of a couple of minutes. I returned my initial game to Amazon because I thought it was defective. Well it was and the company took almost a month (more if you consider the release date of the game) to fix it. The game is fun but it takes a while to get Poirot from one part of the game to another because he is walking. Murder on the Orient Express allows you to move around by clicking various locations at the top of the screen. All in all, fun -- I'm going through it again now that it is solved.

Finger if suspicion

I love all of Agatha Christi's mysteries, and especially when the mastermind of dectectives, Periot is in charge. The only fault I found with this game is the long walks I had to take with Periot. I tried to double click him in order to get him to run, but, Periot doesn't run. He walks. Anyway, it was a good way to spend a long winters day.

Be careful purchasing this game if you run Windows Vista. It will not Load or Play if you have an AMD processor. It will only work with an Intel Processor

I throughly enjoyed the game. The dialog was interesting and amusing.
The game was easy to play. You did not need to follow a certain route to get to the end of a chapter.
The only problem I had was with the cursor to use items in stock.
Otherwise the game is fun.

Beautiful And Engaging Game

This game has the most beautiful scenic graphics of any game I have played to date. I was blown away by them. The characters are also very well drawn and rendered.

The interface is easy to operate once you get acquainted with it. There is a drop-down bar at the top of the screen with icons for accessing inventory, the main menu, Poirot's journal (which contains a checklist of to-dos), your alter ego (to switch from Poirot to Hastings, sort of) and a stopwatch. The voice over on this one was apparently not done by the wonderful David Suchet, but was very well done, nonetheless.

The puzzles are mostly intuitive, and not too hard or too easy. Also, there are just about the right number of them. I really love a game that challenges me without driving me insane or forcing me to play by using a walkthrough. I had to consult the walkthrough on this game twice when I had missed picking up a vital piece of inventory.

The only real dislike I had about this game is that there is no zipmap. Poirot got a LOT of exercise with me playing. There is a double click option where Poirot will move directly to the next scene instead of ambling along. I used this constantly for about the second half of the game. A zipmap would have made this portion of the game much more enjoyable, and the four stars are because of the above lack of map.

Overall, the game is of wonderful quality and has been given an honored place on my "I must play this again later." shelf.
