Not worth the price, only 3 levels of play

This game is nice, but it is extremely short. There are only 3 stage arenas.

Stage 1 you are in a street parade.
Stage 2 you are in a movie studio.
Stage 3 you are at a concert in a park. Then that's it, the game ends!!!

There are also 7 songs, but not all of those songs sound great.

Another complaint is that the characters do not react to your button inputs. They dance automatically, you do not have any control over their movements.

I also own SPACE CHANNEL 5. That is a much better game (5 stars). You have complete control over the character's movements, and there is a long storyline to follow in order to beat the game.

Eh.. not that great

I read all these "great" reviews about Samba de amigo saying how fun it was. You want fun? Get a nintendo wii instead.. that's real fun. Samba de amigo is apparently the same thing as DDR only you use maracas? Original idea but sorry, no. The maracas are very easy to set up but it's very very hard to make them work.. you have to shake them all over the place in the right spot and sometimes if you shake them in the right spot, the game doesn't pick up on it. This was a creative idea, but now with all the new technology coming out I highly reccomend you don't buy this unless you're into collecting dreamcast games.

Fun game, but a little expensive with maracas...

The maracas are an absolute necessity too.

And the worst part is, if you want it to be a party game, you need TWO sets of maracas.

I haven't tried the third party sets, so I don't know how they are, but I'd certainly like to know, becuase the official ones run you about 60-80 dollars a set. Add the game to this, and you've got yourself the cost of two dreamcasts.

Good things these maracas are going to be backward compatible with the new samba de amigo 2001 game coming out. If not, I'd be a little upset.

As for the game itself, listen to all these other reviews- it's fun. it's addicting. It's tiring. Don't try playing when you have the flu, because you'll wanna throw up afterwards.

GREAT FUN!

This game is a blast, highly addictive, very challenging. Fun with or without the maracas, so don't worry about those 80 bucks if uf don't wanna spend it. Its a bit easier too w/o them. Its a fun game, and the music was surprising and a great laugh to hear all the famous songs they included. Coulda used a Story Mode, BUT the challenge mode makes up for it. ~=) WAY TO GO SEGA!

Hahaha.... this... game... is... so... much... hahaha!

I cannot stop laughing, this game is so much fun. All my friends are rolling on the floor laughing at themselves, but they keep playing because it is so much fun (and they are a tough crowd). Samba de Amigo is the *perfect* party game, because absolutely everyone comes over to see what is going on, and even the stiffest square will eventually give it a go. I can actually get my grandmother to play.

Samba de Amigo is a music game, in which you shake maracas to the beat of the music. You shake 'em high, you shake 'em low, you shake 'em fast, you shake 'em slow :) You strike funny poses at times, and the rythmns gets harder, but the fun never goes away. It's one of those simple things that makes you think "Why did anyone think of this before?"

ps - you absolutely must buy the maraca controllers to play this game if you want to enjoy it. Get 2 sets - after one party, you'll feel that you got your money's worth.

That funky monkey

Played the Import, its a blast, wild colors, a monkey thats gotta be on Xtc or something, and pretty good tunes. Only bad thing about this game is with a standard controller its kinda boring and hard. Oh and only other bad thing (thats 2 i know) the lame "internet downloadable" music the import had, I hate most video game muic and the internet downloadable was god awful video game music (sonic racing? rent a hero no. 1?), which just sounded off compared to songs like "tequilla" or even "take on me". Other then that its a great game and solid in every way. SAMBA!

I bought this game and since then my life is a party.... It all started when my mom found me dancin' and shaking the maracas. I told her it was easy and not like other games. She started playing. She started off terible, but soon she cault on. My dad came home and me and mom got him to join. After a little bit my mom cooked dinner and my dad went to read the news paper. I was tired. I started playing JET GRIND RADIO (the other greatest game in the world. THE END I hope you buy the maracas too. You need them!

Total gaming pleasure

I picked up Samba not thinking I'd enjoy it but boy was I wrong. Samba had me hooked instantly and the following day I went out bought the maracas. I must say the game is great with just the controller but it's totally fun with the maracas.

During a recent family party, I put the game on and had everyone doing the maracas in no time! People who never really played games before were having a blast!

Part of the fun of the game is trying to win new music by beating the "Challenge" mode which can be quite difficult. But it's worth it when you unlock new tunes to shake your maracas too! Even young gamers can have fun playing "Whack a mole" with the maracas. This game is pure genius.

Also, you can download tunes off of the Samba web site via your Dreamcast. Finally, a game for the masses and one that will turn you into a dancing fool!

FUN! FUN! FUN! ! !

Amazing. I have been wanting to buy this game for a while, and I had trouble finding a set of the maracas controllers. Finally this past weekend my wife and I bought the game along with 2 sets of controllers, and I have never had such an enjoyable 2-player gaming experience. The arcade mode is a blast, and there are several very amusing mini games as well (like whack-a-mole). This has got to be the best party game ever made. As a plus, it gets your whole body moving to the beat, think of it as an excersize routine and video game all in one! I actually worked up a sweat while playing it. Samba de Amigo is the most innovative console game I have ever seen, and it is a true testament to the amazing game designers at Sega. Anyone who loves to have fun should own this game with the maracas controllers.

It made me buy a Dreamcast

I have not wanted a video game machine since I was 7 and the Atari was all the rage, but playing this game at my brother's house FORCED me to buy a Dreamcast. How could you go wrong with Latin music, shaking maracas, and psychadelic graphics featuring a crazy monkey? It is not only a fun party game, but a great tool for teaching music.
