AITD4 is NOT PS2

Watch out, everybody, Alone in the Dark 4 is NOT Playstation2. I have a new PS2 which, believe it or not, I chose over XBox and GameCube in order to play AITD4 (as a start). I failed to notice that AITD4 is for old Playstation. Yesterday, a week or two afer I ordered the console and preordered AITD4... I read someplace that Playstation games do not save on PS2 memory cards. AITD4 has just gotten a lot more expensive. In fact, I don't know how to get old Playstation memory. I wonder if it's even available.

I have looked forward to this game for a year now. I love the series. I give Infogrames one star for writing for an obsolete system.

Viva la crap!

I give Infogrames one star for the originality of the AITD series--and it ends there. I feel that this franchise is as played out as their horribly bland 'Test Drive' series. And although I understand Infogrames grasping for their piece of the pie crust by trying to make due with what little they have, they seem to have lacked the foresight in spending too many years developing a grossly mediocre game for a now outdated system. I've played the beta, don't buy it.

Pretty, but buggy.

Although I rather like the game and really enjoy the graphics and music of it, I now wish I hadn't purchased it at all. The game is rather buggy. It has a tendency to crash when you attempt to skip dialogue, and sometimes key items simply do not work. One of the online faqs I read explained in detail that sometimes an item simply won't work as it is supposed to, and in such a case, you basically have to start all over. Restarting your PSX/PS2 won't fix the problem. I had that happen 3 hours into the game with the library keys. What a waste of time. Good game; lousy quality control.

Very disappointed.

I was very disappointed in this game. There are way too many files. On top of that, they are way too long. I got a quarter of the way through the game and was scanning through the files without reading them. Monsters are few in this game. I am a big fan of Resident Evil and I admit this game is very similiar to it, but, its suspense level and its puzzel solving level are incredibly poor. Way to many sealed up doors. I did not find the graphics very appealing at all. I bought this game...used. If I had paid more, I would have returned it.

AITD4 Plays to Old Tune

I absolutely love role-playing games especially scared-off-your-pants type games. Unfortunately AITD4 is reminiscent of the RESEvil series and thus lacks originality. Pros: The graphics are great and the characters move pretty seamlessly. AITD4 did make the 2 characters you can roleplay go through different adventures in different parts of the island, so in that sense it makes the game less repetitive. Cons: Forget about plot and good voice acting - I mean some of the dialogue is laughable. Plot is typical explore creepy mansion, shoot zombies/monsters on sight and save yourself and might as well save the world while you're at it. Also, the background music is totally irritating and doesnt add at all to the mood of the game.

If you want to be scared get Silent Hill. That's to me is the all-time creepiest, unnerving game ever produced. I got AITD4 because I remember reading the producer's goal at creating a game that was onpar or exceeding the fear factor of Silent Hill - ummm... not even close. Rent AITD4, dont buy it.

It was OK, but not as good as the other reviews say it is!

In a sense, the game does have good lighting and use of the shadowing, but it just didn't scare me that much. Maybe, that is because I have been through the horror in other games such as Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and other games in the survival-horror genre and already have experienced that. I find though that the monsters in some parts were not that frightening like the shadow monsters in the attic area. Althogh there was a somewhat frightening effect added with the monster in the water towards the beginning of the game. There wasn't that much to offer, though. I recommend the games from the Resident Evil series over this and the Dino Crisis series. They have a scarier vibe. I don't recommend playing the Silent Hill series because it is just crap with cheap monster and overly dramatic effects, which detract from any horror of the game.

Excellent in its own right!

I love survival horror games. It's one of the only reasons I play video games at all on consoles. Alone in the Dark 4 is one of those games that grows on you and now I can't stop playing it. I'm hooked.

I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil series and I think AitD4 separates itself from RE in such a way that it is close, but not too close, evoking its own sense of fear and even loathing at some of the creatures.

If you are a fan of HP Lovecraft, you will appreciate the Alone in the Dark game even more. If you haven't read, HP Lovecraft, do yourself a favor and pick up one of his books. You will find laid out before you the type of gothic horror world envisioned by a person of Lovecraft's talents and neatly woven into a game like AitD4.

For survival horror fans, you will not be disappointed with this game. I have always been a fan of Infogrames and I will be forevermore.

Still Life In The PS One

Its games like this that shows that is still plenty of life left in the original Playstation. Alone In The Dark 4 is the best in the series with the some stunning graphics and gameplay, that will keep the player captivated for along time. The object of the game is till pretty much the same, and you are armed with minimal weaponary, but yet you have to enjure several levels of terror and mayhem (this is what makes the game so much fun). Basicaly this is a must have game if you want something that is different to the games that are around at the mmoment

From Creepy to Creepier -- I Always Love That!

I'm a late comer to the world of "Survival Horror" games. But I love them!

From my introduction to them with the first Resident Evil game, I've been hooked. And this game provides a good installment in my now rather long string of games played.

Yes, it does have a lot in common with the RE series. But so what! This is a good game!

I always like how these games start out in some creepy location and then things just get weirder and weirder. And the monsters keep getting more and more bizarre. But the best thing is when the originally described premise is supplanted by the truth behind all the gruesome events which are part of the game. And then that too usually becomes more and more strange and wonderful!

The best part for me about this particular game though is the puzzles. That is definitely one of the strengths here. Some seem a bit too intuitive at first glance...while a couple just don't seem logical even after discovering the secret. Sure, I can try all of my tools on an object and finally hit on which one is supposed to be used...but that doesn't make me feel smart. Nor does it make solving the puzzle seem rewarding.

But all in all, this is a pretty interesting game.

Yes it does seem to have borrowed from Resident Evil, Fear Effect, Silent Hill, and others. But if so, the choices of elements to integrate here were wise!

As someone who is still waiting for a game developed specifically for the PS2 which I would consider worth playing, I'm glad to have this one. But even if you've already stepped up to the PS2, give this a chance. It offers a type of game that I wish was more common.

Fighting, racing, and battle strategy might do it for many...but I need a game like this with an interesting story and puzzling situations to immerse myself in.

If that describes what you look for in a game too, I hope you will also enjoy this game.
