With the PS 2 emergence the original Playstation seems to be suspended in the void - the classics are here, it works as good as before, but it looks like a terminally ill patient who is still given placebos regularly to make his inevitable demise less dramatic.

Alone In The Dark 4 is a good survival horror. It's graphics are stunning, the monsters are creepy, the mansion is creaky and chilling in it's decaying splendor.

The only problem is that I've already walked through the Resident Evil 2 a couple times and the fact prevents me from enjoying the AITD 4 to the full. The amulets, the inventive arsenal, the spiders, the zombies, the diaries, the man and woman playing options - all this had already thrilled me 2 years ago. And now I am just going through the motions of playing the game. Feeling - basically - nothing.

The game is released too late. Good as it is, AITD 4 is depressingly unfresh and therefore it has no chance of rekindling the interest in this type of the gameplaying. Only the most devoted Playstation fans can use it to spend the final hundreds hours at the favorite console.

At first I didn't think the game would be that fun, but I loved it! The graphics are stunning, the sound is great, and the controls are easy! Don't rent, buy this game!

Still Life In The PS One

Its games like this that shows that is still plenty of life left in the original Playstation. Alone In The Dark 4 is the best in the series with the some stunning graphics and gameplay, that will keep the player captivated for along time. The object of the game is till pretty much the same, and you are armed with minimal weaponary, but yet you have to enjure several levels of terror and mayhem (this is what makes the game so much fun). Basicaly this is a must have game if you want something that is different to the games that are around at the mmoment

The graphics are absolutely beautiful and the sound effects are tremendously well done and this gives an overall spooky and eerie feeling to the game. And talk of the excellent animation of the characters as well as the monsters, absolutely stunning and terrifying. Overall, an excellent game and a 'must buy'

AITD4 is NOT PS2

Watch out, everybody, Alone in the Dark 4 is NOT Playstation2. I have a new PS2 which, believe it or not, I chose over XBox and GameCube in order to play AITD4 (as a start). I failed to notice that AITD4 is for old Playstation. Yesterday, a week or two afer I ordered the console and preordered AITD4... I read someplace that Playstation games do not save on PS2 memory cards. AITD4 has just gotten a lot more expensive. In fact, I don't know how to get old Playstation memory. I wonder if it's even available.

I have looked forward to this game for a year now. I love the series. I give Infogrames one star for writing for an obsolete system.

i had never heard of the Alone in the Dark series before, believe it or not. i wasn't much of a gamer around that time. but i rented Alone In the Dark 4, cuz i felt like an erie game after having finished Silent Hill. ... but it is a very good game. highly visibly pleasing. sorta dark, but that's how it's sposed to be. the music alone would creep you out. playing with dual shock is better than without. If you liked Silent Hill and the Resident Evil series go out and rent or buy this game.

I loved this game! Granted it was a very, very difficult game to get through but still, it was extremely enjoyable! The atmosphere and the characters in this game are much creepier than in the Resident evil series (which I also loved). Some scenes really spooked me....The graphics were excellent even for an old console. If you are an action fan, pick this one up for sure.

I give Infogrames one star for the originality of the AITD series--and it ends there. I feel that this franchise is as played out as their horribly bland 'Test Drive' series. And although I understand Infogrames grasping for their piece of the pie crust by trying to make due with what little they have, they seem to have lacked the foresight in spending too many years developing a grossly mediocre game for a now outdated system. I've played the beta, don't buy it.
