Not for the Wii (if at all, that is...)

This may work on a more traditional platform with more traditional controls, but after more than an hour of trying to time a SINGLE MOVE exactly right, I gave up - and I was only on the second stage. The Wii is known as a platform for more casual gamers who want a different level of physical interactivity, not hardcore gamers who want to spend hours figuring out the right timing and combination of joystick/button presses.

Aside from the fact that this is simply not the platform for this game, the game itself has the most annoying camera movement and controls I've ever seen. I'm also a huge Simpsons fan, but by the time I quit, I absolutely wanted to strangle my formerly beloved voiceover actors. Get stuck on a move like I was, and you'll be treated to an endless loop of the same spectacularly unfunny lines. Though I enjoy watching The Simpsons two or three times a day as it's aired, I don't know if I can watch the show for a day or two now - that's how obnoxious it becomes.

The Lego Star Wars games provide similar gameplay, but are far more intuitive, less irritating, and more overall fun.

Since this Simpsons fan of almost two decades found it a tedious and annoying experience, I'd say it's another unfortunate nail in the coffin of The Simpsons franchise, along with the steady decline in the writing of the series. What it really boils down to is that this game lacks any real fun for us old-school fans, who don't live chained to a game console.

If you like the show, watch it or the recent movie. If you like this kind of game, Lego Star Wars is far, far superior in every way.

Thank god I only rented this one, I almost bought it blind.

Ouch my eyes

If you are buying or playing this game you had better LOVE the Simpsons in general. The game play is rough at best with th ecamera shifting all around. The animated sceens look spectacular however once game play starts the visuals decline big time. It's the same run around and punch with Homer for 2 levels and that's when I just quit. I couldn't waste anymore time on a game that was this unappealing. We tried the 2 player split screen but that just enhanced the short-comings of the camera. I would not recommend. The lone bright spot was the funny one-liners that homer and family spits out randomly.

Should have been so much better...

I rented this game. I'm so glad I didn't buy it. The camera never seems to be where you want it to be. The "hidden packages" are supremely pointless. The super powers vary from underwhelming to annoying. (Marge's bullhorn is one of the most irritating things I've ever heard.) The cut scenes are entertaining.
I stopped playing in the middle of a level, because the game just isn't held together well. And I'm returning it with no intention of ever playing it agin or recommending it to anyone. Parts of it are okay, but it's just not worth it.

I love this game!

I think this game is a blast! The camera angle can drive me nuts at time but that wouldn't keep me from recommending this game! The only other bad thing I can say about it is the split screen for 2 players is side-by-side and that makes the screen too small for my tastes, lol. There was only 1 or 2 levels that 2 player almost was a must though. I did use a walkthrough guide a few times when I had no idea what to do...just google simpsons game walkthrough Wii and use the 1st choice in the results! I almost have it beat and then I will definitely play it again....and I am not much of a gamer, lol. There is some mild swearing in this game too!

Great game! I love all the voices from different characters throughout the game. It's like being in a episode from the Simpsons. With it's own story just for this game. I have to admit, this game is kinda tough. It's a video game! I guess that's what they do. It makes you frustrated playing the same level over and over because they are so hard. But nevertheless get this game. It's a great addition to your Wii games collection!

The Simpsons are great but this game could be better

I love the Simpsons and some of the ideas in this game as the plot develops. Lots of funny scenes and fun parts in levels, however this game drives me batty because the camera angle is awful, it keeps spinning to a direction that I don't want to be looking at so I constantly have to adjust the viewpoint. They should have gotten tips from the makers of Mario Galaxy and Zelda Twilight Princess on how to do the viewpoint in the game. Also several levels have tough things to do, and I felt like I wasted too much time trying to get one particular thing done. I did like the challenge of trying to find what to do next in completing the levels.

If you have to play it, do it on another sytem than the Wii

I picked up The Simpsons off an Amazon Goldbox deal for $25, hoping that it would live up to my expectations. While the comedy put into it by the writers and cast is superb, the game itself is another matter. Remember how graphics looked back in the late 90's? When 3D was still relatively new but anti-aliasing hadn't taken off yet? That's where this game dates visually. The "jaggies" are EVERYWHERE (again, this applies to the Wii version).

If you have to play a platformer on the Wii, do yourself a favor and pickup either Super Mario Galaxy or Lego Star Wars. You can thank me later. ;)

Fun in spots, but very frustrating

I think the developers just took on way too much to create a game that really works well. There are some parts that are very fun, but in general this game is way too frustrating. The camera has serious problems and creates situations in which you can't see what you need to do. Just when you think the game is over, it continues on with some bigger than mini-games which could have been games all on their own. Maybe if the developers didn't try to do so much, they could have worked out some of the kinks and made this a really great game. It certainly has the potential.

many good points but execution falls down

I am a relatively new gamer, but a HUGE Simpson's fan and so was very excited about this game. I tried it out, and while it is way cool that they got the real voice actors to do the voices for the characters and the in between videos, and the graphics are also really cool (the characters look almost exactly like they do in the show); I was very disappointed. The main problem is that the game play is extremely difficult. To be clear, it isn't that the game itself is hard, but rather that the camera angle makes it really hard and extremely frustrating to play the game: it seems to always be in the wrong place. Another flaw (from a Wii perspective) is there is very little use of the Wii remotes capabilities. The later is forgivable given that it is a multi-platform game, but the previous is not forgivable (especially from someone like EA), if they had the camera placed correctly the game would be far less frustrating and much more enjoyable.

In short I am glad I was able to try the game out and not have to buy it. It might be worth it to me (for the Simpson's value alone) if the game was $20 dollars or so.
