A GUTSY MOVE BY Activision!

WWII had been done to death! Ever since the original CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN-3D every war theater, every front, every battle has been done again and again. True, a number of great games was produced. Yet, some game developers seem unable to stop whipping a dead horse..

ACTIVISION proved it had the guts to break with the mold it had made its CALL OF DUTY franchise a huge success. CoD4 is set in a (fictional) present in which American and British agents are called upon to stop a Russian plutocrat with Soviet-nostalgia and terrorist aspirations.

The weapons are new, the gameplay is inventive, the graphics are realistic, the settings are beautiful - a great game all together!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Much better than the previous COD games.

I've been a FPS player since, well forever, and have owned almost all FPS games. Of late only the multi-player games have interested me for very long.

COD4 is at least for now the BEST multi-player military FPS on the market. It is by far the most realistic. Crysis is going to have a lot to live up to to compete.

It even runs well on my 3 year old Alienware.

If you liked the Battle Feild 2 and 2142 games you will love it.

a game done right

Single Player:

Incredibly immersing single-play campaign. Short indeed, as many critics have already noted, but to be honest, when it's done as well as this, I don't think that matters. I've played many games which take a whole lot longer to get through, but don't come anywhere close to offering the hands-on, visceral atmosphere Call of Duty 4 does. From stealthy sniper missions to all-out crazy firefights, the single player missions are amazingly atmospheric and very intense. War really is a chaotic mess at times, and no game has ever come close to portraying that so well. Overall, a wonderful addition to the FPS genre, and Infinity Ward should be congratulated for taking the franchise out of the WWII realm and bringing it up to date, complete with excellent graphics, effects, lighting, sounds, and textures.

Multiplayer:

There's a simplicity to the multiplayer that's refreshing, but the "reward system" will just keep you wanting to come back for more. The more kills you make, the better your soldier and class will be for future battles... I'm amazed that more FPS multiplayer games haven't done this before. I suck pretty badly at most multiplayer games because usually everyone else's skills are way better than mine, but with CoD4, even if I'm not as skilled as some other players out there, I can continue to improve and get rewarded -- it's ideal for the casual player like me!

Great job, and congratulations to all the folks who worked on Call of Duty 4... I think you're going to make a lot of new fans, and for those returning again to the CoD franchise won't be disappointed either.

It plays exactly like Counter Strike! The maps are small, and has tons of close quater action. If you like Counter Strike, you will love this one. As for me, there is none better then Battlefield2, game play is ten times more fun.

Excellent game!

Im a fan of the Call of Duty saga since CoD2. I then played CoD:UO, and I can say that Call of Duty 4 is one of the most fun, most entertaining games I've ever played. It has a little bit of everything, and you can sort of choose how much you want.

The MP part of it has so many guns and special abilities combos that you can try lots of setups, and the game modes are superb. I can honestly say i'm very satisfied with this game. The SP part is a little bit slow for me, but it's also very entertaining, you feel like you are part of a movie.

While the graphics are good and the story plauseable, the realisim is non existent and it is obvious to anyone with any actual military service, that these guys didn't do their homework. C'mon, Activision, a full spree of weapons and no select fire among them, and what's with the 60 or 90 rounds of ammo? Try 210 rounds at least. Better luck next time on the FPS market.

I have the entire Call of Duty series and this one is by far the best. The graphics are the best yet with few glitches. Hats off to Activision for portraying the real world of today and probably tomorrow without fear of "political correctness" or stereotyping. The real enemy and the way he fights is accurately portrayed.

Exceeds expectations after COD2. Enjoy gaming with my kids on the home network, though I am usually at a loss for the skill needed to win.
