Simple But Has Glitches

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 6

Phlinx to Go is like many games out there where you have to match 3 or more orbs by shooting a corresponding colored orb at the oncoming grid. By doing matching 3+ colors, you clear out sections of orbs.

In Phlinx to Go, the setting is ancient Egypt with various orbs in colors of blue, copper, red, gold, green, and so on. There are two modes: Classic and Action. With the Classic Mode, you take your time and clear the board before the orbs reach the bottom. At a certain point during game play, a bronze icon flies from the side, attaches itself to the oncoming orbs, day turns into night, and the orbs change into 3 colors. You must "free the spirit" by eliminating the surrounding orbs.

In the Action Mode, you race against time clearing the board. On the last level, you also have to "free a spirit".

There are neat power ups in both levels, including blasting out 5 random shots, eliminating entire rows, "time warping" which scrolls the screen upwards--buying you time--and so on.

It's a pretty straightforward game. Unlike some games, you can change positions to right, center, or left. What makes Phlinx to Go extra-easy is that a colored laser emanates from the colored orb so you can aim your shooter. (Think of one of the Power Ups in the game Luxor--the Laser Scarab).

While this game is pretty easy, even at the Medium Level, what's aggravating is that the shooter often sticks. I have lost SEVERAL games because the orb wouldn't fire or because it wouldn't change positions to left or right. This makes game play frustrating, especially because it seems to happen during crucial moments.

One plus for Phlinx to Go is that you accumulate PoGo tokens to cash in on the PoGo website. You can enter monthly drawings for $1000, weekly drawings for $100, and daily drawings for $50. However, you'll need internet access and a PoGo account (free) to credit tokens and enter drawings.

You get what you pay for, I guess, but Phlinx to Go is a diverting game to kill some time or to amass lots of tokens to enter PoGo drawings (especially in Action Mode). The glitches are a real downer, the music drones on with no variation, and there's a lack of visual interest despite differing orbs being added as game play progresses.

If Phlinx to Go were $20, it definitely wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

Great game but you can't save

Highly addicting, an intriguing story unfolds as you solve each level. The biggest bummer here is that you can't save your game! And so if you exit, you have to start all over again from the beginning, reading the same story segments.

I can't understand how the game developers could miss out such very basic feature! Nuts.

Very disappointing!

This game turned out to be very boring. It is just the same thing over and over again with no changes. Sorry I bought it.

I played Phlinx online at Pogo. It was enjoyable and offered a challenge. This Phlinx To Go is a childs game. The graphics are entirely different & fuzzy. To add insult to injury, there was a coupon included in the jewel case that was suppose to allow you to play 5 days of Pogo online games for free. I purchased the game on 1/13/07; The coupon EXPIRED on 1/1/07. To date I have been unable to get a replacement. Pogo customer service does not handle this problem. As far as I am concerned, Phlinx To Go is a ripoff.

Play it correctly for the most fun

The people who knock the game don't appear to understand how to play it. The point isn't to match the colored orbs or balls so they "pop" , the point is to match them strategically so more balls below them fall. That's where your score comes from! Not from matching. And you can bounce the ball off the sides (bank it) to get into tight places. You have to calculate well and shoot well.
I think it's a great game. I love it :)
Luxor is fun also, but I prefer something where I don't have to shoot like a maniac to be able to conquor :D
