Would not install - missing files on disks - NO GOOD!!

My daughter got the Nancy Drew game for Xmas and when I tried to install it, it would not install properly because it said it was looking for a file that did not exist on the install disk. I did a search on the disk for the file it was looking for and sure nuff, it was not on the disk....makes me think this is pirated software or something. Anyway this was a TOTAL WASTE of money...my daughter is upset and I am out 20 bucks.

Did not work with my computer

I know they say it works with XP, but it really doesn't. I think those who have XP have to get an updated video card before playing this game. The newer mysteries won't work on one of my computers. The older mysteries work.

I realize that I am in the minority here, but I really didn't enjoy this ND game. On the positive side, the plot moves along, the graphics are great and it is more challenging than most of the last releases. However, many of the puzzles are just not that logical and can be VERY tedious. This is the first Nancy Drew game that I have had to consistently resort to cheat sites to get through (even on Junior Detective). Normally, I can complete the whole mystery with only one to two hints.

It seems like HER is trying to respond to customer comments and create longer, more challenging games. Some of the puzzles in this particular game do that very well. Other parts, however, really miss the mark. If you are a fan of other ND games, you'll probably enjoy this one, too. If you haven't played any other games in the Nancy Drew series, this is NOT a good choice to start with.

Morose themes ruined it for us..

First off we have LOVED all the other Nancy Drew's we have played. This game seemed intentionally created darkly... as if they're trying to steer us as an audience that way. Waaaay too many eyeballs! and creepiness for me and my 11 year old. I did and didn't like the new format for your items. I like the new list of suspects, but I liked the to look at my viewable items and portable items separately as in past games. Nancy seemed to talk less and give clues less this game than usual. Sorry, but sometimes it's just helpful for you to know what your doing or doing wrong. It was fun to trade places with Bess. Still, we stand by this rating.

I had read so many rave reviews of the nancy drew series that perhaps I was expecting too much from the game. However, the game was fairly simple, with a few glitches, but honestly not all that consuming. It was just ok.

Not as good as its predecessors

I have played all of the Nancy Drew Games, and I wish that HER Interactive would find one formula of game play and STICK TO IT. In one game there may be many characters, several opportunities to die, challenging puzzles and many different locales to explore. In others, they stick to one basic location, very few characters and easy puzzles. This particular game falls into this category. Not many characters, one main location for about 80% of game play, and the puzzles are either really easy, or the solution is way out in left field. This definitely was not one of my favorites.

Raining at the Mansion

This adventure has everything I look for in this type of game; a haunted house, a rainstorm (that you walk in and never get wet!), New Orleans and hints of voodoo. The characters are interesting, not annoying, and there are less phone calls than in other Nancy Drew games. The problem is that many of the puzzles are not solvable. They involve tedious trial and error for a solution that cannot be deduced by logical reasoning, or simply make no sense at all. I found myself on the cheat boards often, and felt disheartened when I realized there was no way to have "figured it out" myself. Play this one for the gothic ambiance, but don't waste time if you can't 'get' the puzzle.

Not HerInteractive's Best

Okay, I want to start out by saying that I am a HUGE fan of ND games, and I've loved every one so far. However, this one, was simply not my favorite.

Issues I had with it are: Lack of scenery. You can only go to a couple places, and they very quickly got old. Lack of good music. The music in this game uses the same theme over and over again. At one point I was forced to mute it, it got so unbearable. The ending was very anti-climatic, and did NOT resolve anything, really. The characters were minimally interesting as well.

I hate to be harsh with any ND game, but this was my honest opinion of this game. I believe HerInteractive could have done a lot better, based on how much better their older games were compared to this one. If you're looking for a great ND game I would try Curse of Blackmoor Manor or Secret of the Scarlet Hand.

Improved, but Not a Home Run

Her Interactive has redeemed itself with this game. On the positive side, I enjoyed Bess' pluck, determination, and ingenuity -- and the fact that she had the opportunity to infilitrate a secret society (like Skull & Bones.) The game was well structured and interesting....and the graphics were superb. This game also drew from of the clever affects of previous games -- including overhearing private conversations from hidden passages/behind walls and being able to acquire info by spying on others from peep holes (think Blackmoor and Message in Haunted Mansion).

However, I found many of the puzzles in this game rather tedious (especially the marbles and wasps) which relied more on hand-eye coordination and mouse functionality than wit. I would have also appeciated more character development/interaction...and the plot, while interesting and well structured, still fell a bit flat. Would have been nice to have seen more of New Orleans as well.

It is a vast improvement to recent games. If you generally like Nancy Drew games, you will like this one too. Good, but not great.

One of the best

This is quite possibly one of the best Nancy Drew PC games we've ever played. We've played each one (a group of 4 of us) and enjoy the ND games since they're family friendly. This one is especially enjoyable because of the challenging puzzles and we found the subject matter very interesting. The graphics are getting better with each game. Out of the 17 ND games to date this one is my personal favorite (and we're only half way through the game!!)
