Despite the highly impressive introductory scene and menu screen, don't be deceived. This game is far too conventional and undeniably sloppy. Terrible low quality graphics and messy animation, lifeless paper diorama-like environments, corny cliched looped background 'noise' which fails to evoke a dark, haunting atmosphere. The controls can become extremely confusing and frustrating in times of crisis (plenty of mutilation, blood spillage and cleavage wobbling though). The characters are in many ways stereotyped and dull yet cheaply sexy and appealing (in the busty exotic bombshell type way - a cross between Elvira and Mortal Kombat's Sonya Blade).
The concept and storyline (or lack of) is shallow and focuses more on show-casing stereotypical gothic style, lacking substance and depth.
It's a shame, this game potentially could've been much better. It certainly doesn't do justice for the X-box either... It's still an appealing short-lasting novelty like playing old platformers for nostalgic value. It's fun and wasteful but certainly not for those who want a worthwhile challenge.

Blood Omen II is better.

This is one of the few X-box titles I got rid of before completing the game. It just isn't worth a lot of play-time when there are many, many, more well made interesting games than this one. I guess I should be more specific.

Graphics - mediocre. Monsters, buildings etc. appear very two dimensional. BloodRayne looks hot in a skin-tight cat-suit, but that is intersesting for about 10 minutes.

Gameplay - mediocre to poor. Method of jumping, shooting, changing weapons is unatural and awkward.

Story - goofy. That about sums it up.

I definately would not buy this game. As a rental, may be fun for a couple of days.

Gets better as you go along

Blood Rayne is an interesting concept that the manufacturers should have taken further. The main character is the typical scantily-clad, unnecessarily jiggling bombshell...with fangs. The controls are easy to master once you get into the game and the concept is pretty simple. The goal for the game is clearly defined although not always easy to obtain. When I first started the game, I thought it was lame and boring, but after completing the early levels the game improved. Later levels employ much better graphics and story. Stick with it, you will like it in the end.

This is an extremely violent game. One of the first times I have heard explicit language used by a character. This game should not be played or seen by anyone under 17. The rating is right on. My wife saw me playing this game and signed me up to see a shrink.

While this game has excellent graphics and playability, the baseline premise and storyline could have been much better.
I found that while as an action oriented - kill everything in sight - this game works pretty well, for the most part ...
However, the RPG element to the game is almost non-existent and the storyline was one of the weakest that I've ever heard.
The game is also surprisingly short. There are only two location sets to be dealt with: cajun swamps & nazi strongholds.
If you're looking to kill something - often and badly - then this is definitely the game for you & you won't be disappointed.
But, if you're a mature gamer looking for some roleplaying element to a game, seek elsewhere as this just isn't it ...

Could have been better.

What happens when you design a game for the PC but put it across a multitude of consoles first? BloodRayne. Now, now, hear me out before you bite my head off. The software is riddled with a great deal of glitches; at least as far as the Xbox version goes, that's the one I bought. There are countless times I've run into slowdown, and visible rendering, aliasing, artifacting and numerous other problems of an unpolished game. So I'm not happy with the graphics. Secondly; the control options. I have been one of those voices proudly protesting the Resident Evil/Tomb Raider and the Mouse and Keyboard control set up. When I put the disk into my Xbox I was appalled to discover the game's default setting was mouse and keyboard, which does not work on a console. Thankfully, after tampering with the control settings for a while I discovered a tomb Raider like control set up. While I hate both styles and prefer free roaming analogue (a kin to the Soul Reavor series, Mario, Zelda, and Metal Gear) the option to play this more like Blood Omen 2 than Grand Theft Auto III was greatly appreciated, but it would have been better to deign this game from the ground up like a true console game, and not one that looks, and plays like a bad PC Port.
The voice acting is horrid, that said I'm now going to comment on what this game does right. The action, despite its awkward controls, is fast and furious, and there's lots of it. The story line is also darn near R-Rated Vampire flick quality, at least on par with the recent Blade movies, sadly nowhere near the caliber of something like "Interview with the Vampire", and no where near as deep as the original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, or the two Soul Reavor games. As a vampire fan I rush to just about anything vampire related, and while I don't regret buying this mediocre game I'm glad I didn't pay more for it than I did (I got it second hand.) I recommend that players rent this title before committing to a purchase. The game is a far cry from a must have.

Hard to see what the excitement is about. The graphics are nothing special. The game is rather shallow -- kill people and suck the blood from their jugular vein. Killing Nazis is always a plus, though.

The controls are rather easy to pick up. You can use a variety of different views, such as aura view (looks similar to infrared), dilated perception (slow motion), and extended vision (zoom). Not much skill involved with the combat; it is more or less hack and slash.

The theme of the game is raw violence combined with sensuality. I’m sure this alone is what is drawing most of the positive remarks.

Save your money.. just rent it.

BloodRayne is another third-person action game featuring a typically scantily clad female vampire as the main character.
The first part of the game is actually pretty boring... so don't give up on it right away. After an hour or so the game does beging to get pretty cool.
You play the game as Agent Rayne, a half-human, half-vampire who has all of a vampire's traditional strengths yet hardly any of its weaknesses.
The controls of this game are really easy. You can pick up any of the weapons that the bad guys dropped. Even better is that firing the weapons are as simple as pressing a button, since the weapons auto-target.
Overall, I think this game has really low replay value and that makes it suited to be a rental.

This game is visually stunning on the X-box. Go to a cheat web site and learn how to unlock the JUGGY mode if you want an extra little show within the game. Juggy mode only makes a difference for the first quarter of the game when you are being trained by the S&M Nun. Overall, the game is o.k. The story is not bad, the controls are easy to learn and your character has attitude which is pretty cool. If the people who had developed this game had put a little more effort into the story and character development, this game would be on par with Tomb Raider. As it is, though, you get to battle evil Nazis (always fun) and you get to suck a lot of blood (also fun). My biggest complaint is the totally anti-climactic ending. We go through hell and back (literally) to finally confront the two major bad guys. And to get to this point you have to go through some pretty repetitious and monotinous game play. You kill one of the major baddies, but you have no time to celebrate since the second major baddy is fighting you at the same time. FINALLY you kill the second major baddy and ... thats it. You give the finger to the corpse and the game ends !!! How lame is that ??? With just a little more effor this game could have gone places. As it is there will probably not be a sequal. Too bad.

Very enjoyable game. Recommended!

The graphics are nice. Not spectacular though, as some say it is. But they are adequate, at least indoor environments are. Outdoors aren't that good due to the dullness of everything.

The control system.... must heavily recommend using the "1st person" controls. You get different moves as you progress in the game, but you aren't much in control of them... they execute as the computer sees fit in the moment.

The game is fast paced and there's a lot of freedom of movement... although you don't progress unless you complete certain checkpoints, and exploring isn't very rewarding.

You get weapons, but IMHO they are not very useful. Sure they do quite a bit of damage, but what's a machine gun good for if you only get 15 rounds along with it? A grenade launcher with only 2 grenades? A 3 bullet loaded pistol?

The music isn't very varied, but it works well jumping up the pace of the game. Sound effects are ok..

All in all, it's an entertaining game indeed.
