Serious FPS!

First person shooter fans, remember that feeling you got when you first played DOOM, or Duke Nukem 3D?! If you've played any of the PC versions of Serious Sam, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. This game is far from being Half-Life, or even Halo, but if a fun, shoot-em-up is what you crave, then look no further than Serious Sam: Gold! This XBOX version contains both SSFE(first encounter), and SSSE(second encounter), plus awesome multi-player modes, split screen and XBOX LAN! For those not familiar with Serious Sam, it has very clean graphics, with tons of blood and guts! Awesome selection (serious firepower as Sam would say) of weapons, including shotguns, pistols, machine guns, and of course the Serious Bomb!!! Tight, responsive controls keep the game flowing, and simple too. Pick up Serious Sam: Gold, if you want a seriously fun game!

This game is a pure adrenaline rush - AWESOME!

I played Serious Sam 1 and 2 on the PC, but those games were nothing compared to the XBox version. The graphics absolutely ROCK, and the FPS rates are insane. You can move through 36 levels and it boggles the mind how many game play options you have available. I expected this to be pretty good and it is way beyond my expectations. Serious Sam is a non-stop adrenaline rush and an absolute BARGAIN.

Fun!

Serious Sam at first, seemed boring. I played the computer version for hours though, and loved it. There are hundreds of monsters coming at you, and you have to strafe, dodge, and weave to avoid them. At the same time you shoot tons of different weapons. The funnest thing is, the game rocks.

The badguys are fun and inventive. They don't get old. The weapons are great. Two shotguns, tommy gun, minigun, some laser stuff which is cool, two pistols, a cannon, a rocket launcher, a grenade launcher(which rocks), a sniper rifle(which is kinda like halo except it practically kills all in one to two shots), and a knife. The flamethrower looks terrific. It may even be a little better than "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". The story is there. It plays no role really, but its still there. Sam is awesome.

As for replay value? Depends. I loved shooting millions of monsters in the heat of battle. Don't you? Some do and some don't. I guess this could be considered a "hack-and-slash" game because you basically shoot things and avoid a few traps. The game isn't frustrating though, and that's what counts.

If you are reading this review, then you own a computer. Get Serious Sam for computer. It has an editor AND a modeler. I got Serious Sam 2 and learned how to use both these devices. They are kinda fun. There are also different mods for the game. Surf the web for a few and you won't be dissapointed. Serious Sam 2 is kinda repetitive after Serious Sam 1, but it has a third person view, which I like to use in unison with first person. Pass the xbox one up for the computer version.

The price has gone down though. SO i would reeccomend this game to lots.

About all I have to say about this game is the fact that it's probably the most fun I've had with a console FPS. If you're looking for a clear shoot-em-up (like doom), this is it. I never played the PC versions, but my roomate has, and he says the graphics are just as good as the PC version. Also, the
Co-op mode allowed us to play together (like in Halo), and it was a blast. The different difficulty settings is also a plus. You can either relax and and have fun blowing the enemies to smitherines, or get serious (no pun intended) on the harder difficulties for a challenge. Also, the comical cutscenes on the single player mode are worth seeing.

The only problem I really had was the repetitiveness that happened at times, but then about 30-50 enemies appear on screen, and for the next 15-20 minutes you're constantly shooting enemies. So it's really not a big deal. Also, this game is addicting and my hands cramped up after playing for 3-4 hours straight, but O'Well.

I have also heard that a bad batch of discs for this game was made, so be careful, and take it back and get another copy. Luckily, my version worked perfectly. Never once did it slow down or mess up in any way (even with a seemingly endless line of enemies on screen).

This game is the very essence of a first person shooter, IF IT MOVES....SHOOT IT! These is really no strategy or skill, just a mad rampage of fire power. Not everyone is going to love this, and if you're a counterstrike person, you might be displeased. But it is done completely in a comic book style, especially with marginally funny cut scenes and quips.

Graphically the game is beautiful, and layed out quite well. It stays true to its PC big brothers. The sound is flat out amazing, with the surround sound able to tip you off to the enemies, and the musical changes that also are a tip off to enemies that have you in sight.

I'll suggest this game to anyone who likes pure firepower, and shooting everything in sight. My suggestion still stands even though Gotham Games chose not to hire me as well.

While I was first playing this game, I thought, action too fast, cartoonish, and more of the same. After about an hour I had changed my mind. This is quite a refreshing game. The boards (maps), along with the overall graphics are very sharp and crisp. I really liked the weapons they came up with. Some are the run of the mill firearms, but then they threw in some cannons and futuristic blasters and tally-ho, your a madman with a smile. The charaters in first person are very cool and have very interesting ways of getting your attention before your a splatered memory. In 4 person split-screen play, it was totally every man for himself. Great multi-player value. They also have a great sense of humor- throwing santa clause in the mix and awesome power-ups. After playing so many of these types of games lately, It was good to get back to basics with a twist.

This game is great its full of action and plenty of blood. (and flowers) The gameplay is smooth and suprisingly fast.I never witnessed any slowdown when fighting hordes of baddies. The graphics are pretty plain, but they are a release if you have been playing graphical gems such as Wreckless,Dead or Alive 3 or Splinter Cell.Serious Sam also has humor in the game, for example, in this one area you will be chased by a big stone ball, when this happens Sam starts whistling to the tune of the Raiders Of The Lost Ark theme song.. For 24 dollars this game is a must buy.

This game is great. People say its repetitive but you dont even think about it when your killing hordes and hordes of aliens. I had read a review that said the game was short, which is a total lie. there are around 40 levels that are all huge and complex. And beating the 16 level is almost impossible without cheats which makes it feel like the game is even longer. This game is better than Halo 2. The only reason people say halo 2 is good is because thats what everyone says and they want to be cool. The guns are great, the levels are amazing and there is really nothing more to say. The games awesome and thats all there is to it. But dont get the game right away because serious sam 2 is coming out soon. I think in 10/10/05 so wait and see. Take my advice, the game is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!

If you thought games where you had to go 50 yards or so under heavy machine gun or sniper fire were tough, wait till you play Serious Sam. The game has you going through various Egyptian-themed levels. Some of it is going around corridors in temples and things like this, but the real fun comes in the large, open areas. You have to run across a small stretch of desert, but wave after wave after wave of enemies come at you, dozens of enemies at a time in each wave. And they don't waste time with intelligent A.I. tactics. They just swarm you, and they're vicious and bloodthirsty, just like you should be.

Of course, you're always fairly well equipped to go into these situations. Afterwards, you'll most likely be limping away only to run into another similar situation, which you get out of with barely any life left. Then you'll get some health and armor powerups, possibly a save point, and continue in the same way.

If you're one of those suckers who needs plot, stealth elements top of the line graphics, or shifty A.I., this isn't the game for you. There is no sneaking around, there is no determining strategy to get the upper-hand over a crafty enemy. But that's fine. It's much more satisfying to clear out a level and get a cutscene of Sam wading through bodies, his name painted in bulletholes on the wall, than it is to experience a lackluster plot twist, or a contrived stealth move, or to finally get an enemey who was running around blindfiring on you.

This game is for bloodthirst, random humor, and over the top amounts of violence, and that's what shooters should be all about.

One of the most intense & fun games out there

Sam "Serious" Stone takes up arms against an unseen maniacal genius named Mental's army of living monsters & freaks through a huge variety of levels.

Short, sweet, and to the point is the story of Serious Sam for the X-Box. But what is the game like? Through a first person perspective you run around collecting a huge chunk of weapons including (but certainly not limited to) rocket launchers, shotguns, and flamethrowers and fending off hordes after hordes of millions of enemies at a time..

..no really, I'm not kidding. Serious Sam is one of the most, pardon the pun, seriously intense games I have ever played. You will ALWAYS be on the run, and just like the video game Black, always have your guns firing away. Just when you think the action is over, a health box appears, and as you grab it - ROAR! More monsters to blow away. Although this may seem repetitive, the sheer amount of action and intensity will keep even the most "elitist gamers" entertained. Since this X-Box release allows a co-op mode, you and a buddy can team up against Mental or (if you want) blow each other away in humorus yet bloody ways.

Although action and destruction is Serious Sam's main points, the game doesn't have a "serious" tone at all. In fact, the game is pretty goofy both in Sam's dialouge, some sound effects, and cut scenes. I mean at one point you just finished putting a major dent in Mental's forces in some ice world to get your grubby hands on some orb.. you walk in and the orb is gone! All of a sudden you walk outside and there is a skeleton-horse sleigh waiting for you. All of a sudden you hear a hip-hop version of the song "Jingle all the Way" and then you see Serious Sam riding in the sleigh wearing a Santa Klaus outfit.

Graphically speaking, this X-box video game looks truley beautiful with vibrant jungles, dark caves, vast white sanded deserts with gigantic pyramids, etc. The monsters look menacing, goofy, and at times, absolutley huge. The guns look great, and the lighting effects look even better.

Ontop of that, the music helps to add to the atmosphere. Most of the time its straight heavy metal music, but at times it could be like Middle Eastern tunes or something like that. The guns sound BRUTAL, and deliver a very satisfying punch to your target.

Serious Sam is a pretty long game not only because your gunfights will last a half hour each time, but because there are a lot of stages to cover. Despite being a basic straight forward game, you're looking at a good 10-15 hour game if you decide to take a few breaks sooner or later.

To end this review, all I have to say is: if you're a fan of FPS or want a fast moving, action packed experience with some laughs sprinkled ontop then go out and buy Serious Sam.
