I bought a Super Nintendo especily just for this game when it came out. It was the coolest game since MArio brothers to hit the curicuits. I loved the next version better (Turbo edition) but the best of them all is Super Street Fighter 2.
I really got out of the whole Street Fighter thing since SSF2Turbo. I have had very little interest in the Animie style it's gone towards since. Plus I cant keep up with them, there must be a million different versions of SF2 (because sf1; Fighting Street was not quite the same as this one) butthis is where it all started. And this is the true SF game that is responsable for all those clones of this game. But nothing compares to SSFII. It has since breathed new life again on the Gameboy advance. I cant remember what it's called, but it's pretty much the same with some new extras included, and Akuma.
Good game, but not the best Street Fighter

I've always liked the Street Fighter games a lot. A few years ago, one of my friends gave me Street Fighter II for the Super Nintendo, and it's good in most ways. The graphics and backgrounds were good for the time, the control is responsive, and it has cool sounds, sound effects, and music. The fighting in the game with the regular moves such as the punches and kicks, and the special moves such as the fireballs, Blanka's electricity, the fast kicks, etc. make this game a lot of fun. But it's not the best Street Fighter game ever made. In fact, it's not even the best of the Street Fighter II games. My only complaint is that it's a real slow fighting game. If you like fighting games, I would recommend getting Street Fighter II, but I would recommend one of the faster Street Fighter games such as Street Fighter II Turbo, which is the same as this game, but A LOT faster.
It's the coolest game ever!

... this was one of the updated versions (not sequels, but the turbo, championship, etc. versions) with more characters and where the bosses are playable. I bought it because I was really missing this game from my childhood and only had a little money. I went with the cheapest one.
Anyway, the Street Fighter series deserves a lot of credit. It's responsible for almost every fighting game you see these days. To this day, it has some of the best fighting styles, and they're all logical. The gameplay is very typical of Capcom, with the kind of rock, paper, scissors way of strengths and weaknesses.
The first SF game to revolutionize the fighting genre !

In 1992, Street Fighter II, the sequel to the original '80s Capcom arcade fighting hit, Street Fighter, has released in, of course, the arcades, and multiple systems...the Sega Genesis, Game Boy, and the Super Nintendo, the most powerful 16-bit video game console of all time ! In case some of you guys didn't know, Street Fighter II was the first fighting game to ever revolutionize the fighting game genre. It was so big, that it created a huge audience of fans and on top of that, Capcom was making big bucks when this game released ! Plus, some SFII merchandise was made, but most of them were cheesy during those times. The action figures, which was originally made by the guys who gave you GI Joe figures, really looked corny, but the figures that were made in Japan looked perfectly articulated and well crafted (you can see them in some stores where they sell comic books and Japanese anime merchandise). Plus in 1994, they made a horrible live action Street Fighter movie based on it, and boy, it was a mistake to make the movie in the first place ! The SFII anime movie was even better, according to real fans of the series. Anyways, let me drop the subject ! I'm about to give you the lowdown on the game (man I love saying that !). The graphics look great for an SNES game. Nicely animated character sprites and backgrounds are really something to look at, including those fireballs shooting straight ! But due to todays standards, they seem a little bit outdated and they don't seem to surpass the animation of SFII Turbo. The audio is fine. The music for each character stage sounds cool and they're so unforgetable, it always sticks to some people's heads. And the sounds of heavy and light hitting sound pretty cool, but the grunts and yells sound a little weird, but it fits perfectly. The line of characters, well in that year, it was fine by us. But unfortunately, just by looking at it today, 7 fighters is not really enough, but at least these characters are kick serious arse ! You got Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Zangief, Dhalsim, and Blanka ! Each of them are very simple to master once you've played the game a few times. And as for the gameplay, it's a kind of a good blend, but some flaws are seen. You get a fairly good deal of game modes, but the controls seem to be a little slow. Even with that flaw, it totally makes it up for the slow playability with a good variety of moves to pull out ! And it has a fairly good gameplay balance due to that kind of variety. But even with those flaws and the fact that it's not really the best Street Fighter game of all time, Street Fighter II had what it takes to become one of the most unforgetable and revolutionary 2D fighting games of all time ! If you're going to buy an old SNES along with some good ol-school games like Contra 3, Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss, Mario Kart, Breath of Fire II, and all those hits, don't forget Street Fighter II ! Your collection isn't complete without any game bearing the SFII name...even if you got Mortal Kombat !
the original standard-setter

SF2 was an arcade sensation. It revolutionized fighting games with its graphics, sound effects, and, most importantly, combo hits. It's no wonder why SF2 sold millions when it was released for the SNES. This version does justice to the arcade game with awesome graphics, awesome sounds, and awesome gameplay...the combos are in the game! This was the game by which other similar fighting games were judged by. Also look for SF2 Turbo, which is the original SF2 with playable bosses such as Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison, and turbo modes (increase the speed of the game to lightning speed).
The first of a terrific series
