not a bad game..very fun..but super street fighter II turbo was better in my opinion because you could be the bosses.

I would've given it the last star if only...

... this was one of the updated versions (not sequels, but the turbo, championship, etc. versions) with more characters and where the bosses are playable. I bought it because I was really missing this game from my childhood and only had a little money. I went with the cheapest one.
Anyway, the Street Fighter series deserves a lot of credit. It's responsible for almost every fighting game you see these days. To this day, it has some of the best fighting styles, and they're all logical. The gameplay is very typical of Capcom, with the kind of rock, paper, scissors way of strengths and weaknesses.

Thiswa the orginal Street Fighter 2. This is my personal favorite. Although this game is nothing compared to the rendered, 3-d, or combo air move, 2-dgmaes out now, this game is still nothing short of awesome. In the late 80's I actually pumped my 5 dollar a week allowance into aracde machines to play the orignial street fighter. Street Fighter 1. Although that game is nothing short of pathetic, compared to Street Fighter 2. 8 slectable characters, 4 unselectable bosses, gave this game more replay value than the orignal Street Fighter. And this game, is still pretty hard to the new commer games. The reason why I way that, sure there are no 50 hit air combo, super finishers, but this game is strategic nonetheless. It took a real rpoto pull off a 6hit combo! The specials were even hard to pull off. At arcades, it took me months to learn the fireball, and then learn the dragon punch. and even longer to learn 3 hit combo's,let alone mixing weak, medium, and fierce moves into a special move. Antoher note, button mashing was utterly useless in this game. If you just amshed buttons, you would fail. This game forced players to think about moves. Come up with endless counters and such. Bosses like vega were for the most part difficult, due to the fact specials were hard to pull off. And the game could only really be won by a true expert. This game was far better than the orginal street fighter(which was basically primitive button mashing). another note, in the orignal street fighter, special moves were IMPOSSBLE to do. not even mashing buttons could produce a fireball. In SF2, special moves were possible, and were only done by a pro. Although in later SF2's special moves were watered down. And in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, we were introduced to thje birth of super moves, which were in their primitive state. This game is awsome, although, due to the 16-bit graphics, sometimes annoying slowdown, and no flash. Most younger games will undoubtly despise this game. but if you were around in the early 90's, everyone knows that SF2 was thee game.

WOW!This game is AWESOME! The characters are cool plus some unplayable bosses :-(. There is a very hard boss called M. Bison he can be impossible to beat some times. My favorite charactar is Zangief he's real cool, and you can get perfects more often
:-). Oh, yeah, and Amazon.com says Street Fighter II is rated "T" it's not rated anything! You see this game was made in 1991, and there was no ESRB back then. Finaly the full titleis: Street Fighter II:The World Warrior!.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior is perhaps my favourite fighter of all time! It was the first definitive fighter to be released on console, and was second to none (still is in my opinion). With choice of 8 different characters each with their very own fighting techniques and styles, makes for an awesome array of varied battles, in other words no 2 fights will ever be the same! Another great feature about the game is that it is multiplayer. So get a friend around and challenge them until your heart's content. I'd have to disagree with a few of the other reviews on the subject of street fighter II turbo being the greatest SF of all time. I believe that SF: Championship Edition on the 'ye old arcades is probably the best. A touch faster in gameplay as opposed to SF II: The World Warrior, and the ability to choose the additional bosses. Thats enough rambling on my part! In conclusion, SF II: The World Warrior is most definitely a worthy game in anyone's collection! See for yourself.

Good game, but not the best Street Fighter

I've always liked the Street Fighter games a lot. A few years ago, one of my friends gave me Street Fighter II for the Super Nintendo, and it's good in most ways. The graphics and backgrounds were good for the time, the control is responsive, and it has cool sounds, sound effects, and music. The fighting in the game with the regular moves such as the punches and kicks, and the special moves such as the fireballs, Blanka's electricity, the fast kicks, etc. make this game a lot of fun. But it's not the best Street Fighter game ever made. In fact, it's not even the best of the Street Fighter II games. My only complaint is that it's a real slow fighting game. If you like fighting games, I would recommend getting Street Fighter II, but I would recommend one of the faster Street Fighter games such as Street Fighter II Turbo, which is the same as this game, but A LOT faster.
