FIRST THINGS FIRST, THE TITLE OF THIS GAME IS SUPER CONFLICT FOR THE SNES (CONFLICT IS THE NES GAME). HAVING GOTTEN THAT OUT OF THE WAY, LET ME START OFF BY SAYING THAT BY MAKING THIS GAME THAT VIC TOKAI HAS PRODUCED ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES FOR ANY OF THE SYSTEMS THAT I OWN (PS2, N64, PSX, SNES, GB - ALL CURRENTLY HOOKED UP). THIS WAR SIMULATION, FOR 1 OR 2 PLAYERS, ALLOWS YOU TO CONTROL BLUE OR RED FORCES (USING U.S. OR SOVIET EQUIPMENT, RESPECTIVELY) THROUGH 5 LEVELS CONTAINING 55 SENARIOS. EACH LEVEL ADDS A NEW ELEMENT TO THE GAME PLAY (A NEW FACTORY OR PIECE OF EQUIPMENT) WHILE ADDING MORE UNITS TO COMMAND (ON LAND, AND LATER, IN THE AIR AND ON THE SEA). WHILE THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT MODES TO PLAY IN, THIS GAME IS VERY SIMILAR TO CHESS IN THAT YOUR FLAG TANK (AND ALSO, LATER,YOUR FLAG SHIP) ACTS AS YOUR "KING" AND EACH UNIT CAN ONLY MOVE A CERTAIN NUMBER OF SPACES AND ONLY ON OR THROUGH CERTAIN TERRAIN. ADD TO THIS THE REPAIRING, REFUELING OR REARMING OF DEPLETED UNITS BY GETTING THEM TO THEIR RESPECTIVE SUPPLY AREAS (AIRCRAFT TO AIRPORTS OR AIRCRAFT CARRIERS, GROUND UNITS TO CITIES, AND SHIPS TO SPACES ADJACENT TO CITIES). DID I MENTION THAT YOU MUST CONTROL THESE SUPPLY AREAS? ONCE YOU BEGIN TO PLAY LEVELS THAT CONTAIN FACTORIES (LAND, THEN AIR, THEN SEA), DESTROYING OPPOSING FORCES WILL NET YOU 3,000 PRODUCTION POINTS PER UNIT WHILE CONTROLING A CITY OR AIRPORT WILL GAIN YOU 1,000 POINTS EACH. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT THE MORE POINTS THAT YOU HAVE, THE BETTER UNIT THAT YOU CAN BUILD. BY THE WAY, POINTS ARE NOT DEDUCTED EACH TIME YOU PRODUCE SOMETHING. WHILE THE AI ISN'T ALWAYS BRILLIANT, YOU NEED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE RED FORCES (YOU'RE ALWAYS BLUE IN SINGLE PLAYER MODE) OR THEY WILL GANGSHAG YOUR FLAG TANK OR YOUR FAVORITE UNIT (MINE ARE THE A-10s AND A-6Es). TO HELP MAINTAIN PARITY, THERE IS EVEN A SPECIAL HANDICAP FEATURE IN THE 2 PLAYER MODE. THIS GAME IS SO COOL THAT MY 17 YEAR OLD SON IS NOW HOOKED AND HAS HIS OWN COPY AT HIS HOME. PERSONALLY, I'M ON MY 3rd COPY OF THIS 1991 GAME AND JUST BOUGHT 2 BACKUP COPIES EARLIER THIS WEEK. IF YOU STILL OWN A SNES, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CHECK OUT THIS LOW TECH (COMPARED TO TODAY'S STANDARDS) TREAT. IF YOU GET A COPY OF THIS CARTRIDGE THAT DOESN'T HAVE AN INSTRUCTION BOOKLET, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO WRITE TO ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. CRY HAVOC AND LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF WAR.
