Well, I got a little pissed when I heard that there was no crash mode anymore, or split screen multiplayer mode. But after playing the game and spending hours on it with friends, I didn't really care for it much because the game is so much fun.

I see people complaining about getting lost while racing, thus losing the race, like they haven't done so in real life. This is an open world racer, you're not in kindergarten anymore, you won't see giant road signs telling you which way to go. Instead you get a little pointer, use it.

Also, another complaint is when you lose a race there is no retry option, well boo-hoo, I'm sure Hamilton wanted to retry the last race of the last season when he lost the championship to Raikkonen in F1. Point is, if you don't get to retry in real life you don't get to retry here, I like it, deal with it.

A few words to fellow gamers, don't be a wuss and pause the game every ten seconds and go to map screen. If you want to enjoy the game live the game, learn the roads, that's why you are paying $50+. I too lost races making a wrong turn at the last intersection, don't make a fuss about it. If you're gonna cry like a baby don't buy this game, go play Mario Cart Racer or something.

As you can see I like this game, I highly enjoy it and recommend it to all true Burnout fans. It's a different experience and I will be happy to see crash mode or offline multiplayer mode in the next installation but it is what it is now, enjoy it.

sorry, but they took out the best parts of burnout.
1. you CAN'T play with your friends at home (no split-screen multiplayer).
2. no road-rage online.

really sucked to find that out after getting the game..

outherwise it's cool but without those 2, i'd skip it.

I never thought I would get into a racing game the way I got into this one. If you're a racing game fan...definite buy. IF you're just looking for something to kill about 4-6 hours a night, never doing more than just racing through Paradise City crashing into/jumping over junk...this is your game as well.

STAND-ALONE: I swear I can play this game for hours, mouth agape, and never complete a task. I cannot stop staring at how gorgeous this game looks. I know that most folks say it's a PS3 and it's supposed to look great, but DANG this game looks amazing. My buddy is a huge gearhead and even he was leaning in drooling over the intensity of the action you can create with this title. That's the thing...the speed comes through beautifully in this game, and the crashes are the most fun you'll have this side of a neck brace.

MULTI-PLAYER: As fun as it is...I didn't really feel it lent much to the experience. I have just as much fun in STAND-ALONE.

Wow! Sit back, buckle up, and have fun just smacking into stuff. This game is a blast to play...and there's stuff to accomplish along the way too. The only reason you'll end up caring about the races and challenges is so you can unlock cooler cars to go destroy. Love this game.

Solid Six Axis motion control driving, finally.

Burnout Paradise shines from the start the gamer isn't inundated with
options and load screens, you are merely ushered to your seat in your intial vehicle and given the gas pedal. What is great is that this is all you need to begin enjoying and exploring the fictional but vividly realized Paradise City. The music is eclectic but intially adds to the rush of the driving experience which after you master boost and drift becomes second nature. The sheer speed of FZERO GX is coupled with the open city of Driver, with a little Crazy Taxi/stuntman comboing thrown into the mix. But none of this really matters as all the races and events can be ignored if you simply want to explore until your free will runs out of will. All of this is balanced on a simple yet effective control scheme that is surprisingly better in its SIX AXIS motion control mode than traditional analog. The game hasn't stalled or hiccuped on me in my 10+ hours of exploring and racing nor has any kind of bug reared its head. The save system is always active so you never lose any accomplishments and other than the mild load time your gaming time spent here is just that gaming time. It is evident that this game was crafted with more thought and care than your average racer or smash em up, and it shows in almost every detail. I would have liked to be able to use my unused o button for the EBRAKE but other than that there is nothing here to complain about. If you like driving games with over the top action and sensational amounts of speed then you are in for a treat, this game is excellent for novices and speed junkies alike as there is so much to do around every turn. Another 2007 cult classic

First of all I would like to say the Burnout series is amazing. With that being said Burnout Paradise is completely unoriginal and very much a GTA clone. I'm sorry but the "open" map idea has been done by every genre on every system. That doesn't make a game Next Gen. The graphics are great the controls are just as good. But the completely un-orginal idea to make this a GTA clone makes me laugh. you blew it burnout!

wll this game looks amazing but thats all,the people that gives this game 5,4 or even 3 stars evidentli dont like to get ther moneys worth.this game is a big disapointment to all burnout fans, lets start by sayn crach mode is gone, you have to drive like a retard all over the city and stop at a street light to get on a race, takedown and other shep tipes of raaces. It had the potential to be a great game but it didnt even came close to it.Dont make the same mistake that i did and buy this doungrade of a great game, just wait for grran turismo 5 that would be a better bet.

Even my Dad plays this ...

I want to preface this by saying that I am not a racing game kinda guy.

Having said that, this is AMAZING! From start to finish, the developers thought this through. The graphics are amazing and the crashes are realistic and add slow motion for intensity.

There are many different types of gameplay. You can instantly go online by hitting the d-pad right a few times and mess with people online or join in challenges and races or just drive around and explore - those are the most basic. If you want more cars (there are 75), then you have to do the single player challenges.

The single player challenges are interesting, because in order to start one, you have to rev the engine of your car (usually at a traffic light). There are some really fun ways to play - there's road rage, where you have to knock out a bunch of other cars on the road to reach a target number. There is the stunt run where you must perform different stunts. There's your race around town and then there are special burnout runs where you have to beat the clock in order to win a supped up version of the car you're driving.

There is one thing people claim not to like - that is, that if you start a race and lose, you must drive your car all the way back to the traffic light you started the race at. However, this was purposely done so that you would memorize the city. I found this frustrating at the beginning, but when you travel back to the start point, you discover easier ways to get to the finish. It's very intuitive.

And I'm still so surprised (I have 25 cars now) how differently each of the cars handle!!!

My Dad, who is not a gamer at all (he's a 48 year-old mechanic), but loves cars cannot get enough of this game. He likes just driving around crashing the car and road rage! He also finds if fun to try and identify what cars in the game copy off of real car manufacturers. I don't think the developer was able to get licensing for actual cars, so they have made up versions that very much resemble the cars you see in the real world.

If you like cars at all, pick this up! It's totally worth it.

Great engine / terrible game

Great graphics and framerate but the game sucks. Instead of a menu system for starting races you have to drive around forever to find an event you want to play. They took away crash mode. LOTS more DJ Atomica talking at you which you can't skip or turn off. You can't play against friends on the same system because they removed all local multiplayer modes. One of the best things about previous version of Burnout was playing local multiplayer. You get bored of the island instantly because you have to drive around it forever trying to start events. Getting from event to event doesn't feel like playing, it feels like work. Burnout Revenge was the last great racing game and now we need another one to take the reigns.

Love it!

I haven't played other games in the Burnout series, but I have played many other racing games.

This is my favorite!

I love the open environment, and the online play is the best. The online play adds a vast dynamic to the game, which already feels complete off-line.

There are a few things to consider on this one:

There are no good "cheats" to unlock this game

Downloading "game saves" to unlock the game will not work either.

You have to actually play this game to make progress. Thankfully it's a ton of fun to play your way through it.

I play this on a 100" screen with a projector - I thought the video quality was great, until I played it on a friends 65" 1080P Plasma! Wow it's amazing in 1080P!

One thing that I hope they change to make the game complete would be to allow you to import your own music library. Although I do like most of the music - it does get a bit repetitious.

One more thing - please develop a racing game that uses a split screen! Those of us with real friends (not just "on-line friends") would like to have some head to head competition. Thank You...

Criterion Games has released another winner in its 'Burnout' franchise with its first release on the next-gen systems. The difference between 'Burnout Paradise,' and past entries in the system is the open-world/Sandbox nature of gameplay. From the get go, you're launched into the world of Paradise City with a decent but very basic ride. Players used to previous titles may feel slightly disoriented at first as the game lacks a coherent task structure instead forcing you to roam around the beautifully rendered city taking in the varous sights all while wondering when is the game gonna start? Very soon though, players get instructed through the in-game radio on how to activate the hundreds of challenges scattered throughout the city. Players will engage in a variety of gameplay ranging from straight on timed-racing to full tilt car battles all while building up gameplay points that will allow for upgrades in new vehicles. This style of game works great for the short-attention span gamer looking to get their fix in short chunks - 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there, etc. Also, by all means do play this title on a proper high-def TV. The visuals are simply gorgeous ranging from pastoral mountain roads to intricate and dense cityscapes. Also, a downloadable expansion will soon be made available - from what i hear a new island - giving players even more beautiful environments to carve through.
