Great game overall, if you like arcade racers

I have not yet finished this game, but if you're interested in buying this game, I'm here to tell you you won't regret your purchase overall. I find the game easily manageable for all ages, 'cause simply you can ramp up/down the difficulty level at any point in the game, the difference is you win more money in the more challenging difficulty in order to buy more vehicles as you move up in your career mode. Nice touch! If you enjoyed Motorstorm, this game ranks up there in about the same level of excitement, although, I found Motorstorm a technically more advance IP in terms of graphics and better handdling of vehicles in their terrains. I won't go into detail with this review, but Dirt is a well-rounded game for the PS3 as this little franchise has been in pretty much all the consoles, including the Dreamcast. This latest version, includes fantastic graphics with hardly any slow-down, or frame-rate issues, tracks aplenty(3x more than Motorstorm), and decent controls for an enjoyable package. In a few days Sega Rally Revolution will be hitting the shelves very soon, and with Motorstorm released a few months back, PS3 is starting to beef up its racing portfolio. All great games for everybody. Enjoy.

Dirt - my thoughts

Quite simply: I love this game. My kids (10 and 13) can play it. The learning curve is brilliant if you start at the lowest skill level and progress as you start to find things easier.
GET THIS IF YOU LIKE DRIVING GAMES

My only niggles are: no rain and no two player on one console option. That said the online gaming works fine - just wanted to race my kids and finally show them who is boss!

A DiRTy Little Addiction

This is a game that on the outside looks like any other driving game. All I can say is that this game is a complete addiction. I'm having flashbacks of the early days of the Nintendo Entertainment System when my wife worked 2nd shift and I would play Super Mario Bros for hours on end. That was 15 or so years ago and hate to say it, but this game has the same potential to do the same thing that NES did to me...BAD but this game is NUTS!! I LOVE IT!!!

Don't hesitate...Just get this one and enjoy. DiRT is the BEST offroad racing game that I've played. EVER! PERIOD!

Awsome game!!

This game is awsome. It lacks more cars as it only has about 50 of them. It has a fair ammount of tracks and they are masterfully designed. It has a few city street tracks but are more town-like. The damage system is awsome, the statistics recording system is great as it tells you all your data (longest jump, longest time on two wheels, total kms played, total time raced, etc) and the fact that there are world records set for every track makes you want to practice to beat it xD. This game is a must-have for ps3 and 360 users. Too bad about Colin though :'(

Amazing level of realism

I am into simulations both in games and professionally in physics; and while I can see some aspects of how they try to ensure the driving is not too difficult or frustrating it is still an extremely detailed and accurate simulation of a Rally driving experience. I am especially amazed by how much realism they put into the interaction between the vehicle and the surround obstacles in the environment like bushes, trees, guard rails, roadsigns, fences, rocks, logs, and any other debris on or around the track. That includes bits and pieces of other cars that sustain damage during the race. I mention the damage modeling here almost as an aside but the only word to describe the detail and depth of the accurate simulation here is Awesome. You have to see it to believe it - I would recommend this game to any driving sim enthusiast.

Fun, but really needs a steering wheel controller

OK, here I go talking about my latest game purchase... "Dirt".

I'm about midway through the game now, and I'm having a really good time with this game. I find it extremely realistic, the cars & buggies are really cool, yet I would have liked to race against more cars. Don't get me wrong, you get your fair share of racing against other cars, but, I'd like more.

See, each race is different...Some are "rally" races (like Pike's Peak), some tracks have you racing with multiple racers on the same track, and sometimes you just race one opponent, but it just seems to me like there are way too many rally races on the game. Which aren't bad, but I do like racing with other people on the track. Not only can it be challenging, but I also find it really funny to ram other guys off the track, watching them flip over, sometimes the rally races are a bit boring (ie: just racing by yourself on a curvy road)

PROS: Great realism, serious graphics, MANY MANY tracks to choose, cool cars, great options for "Difficulty Settings" (which a player can change at ANY time in the game) nice replay viewing options (FF, REW, PAUSE, SLOW...etc) high "Fun Factor"! Overall, a very cool game for all ages!

CONS: Not too many, really. But, again, I would like to see more races with other opponents. And I'm not a fan of the "big rig" races. Way too slow, and cumbersome. Sometimes the joystick controls are a bit hard to use for racing games...A steering wheel controller would REALLY come in handy for these types of games! But, this is the ONLY REASON why I only gave it a "3 STAR" rating for the overall rating.

But, for the most part, it's a cool game, and it's quite fun! And, I actually like it a tad better than Motor Storm. However, they're both really fun racing games. And both games have they're great moments, and are worth the money!

Good Rally Driving Simulation Game

This game strikes a good balance between realistic driving simulation and fun driving that everyone can do it. Its pretty much an evolution of the Colin McRae game. Compared to Sega Rally Revo, this is much better with more realistic driving characteristics. Many different views you can view when driving the car. My favourite is the in-car view where its very realistic, with the RPM, drivers hand position etc. If you like driving simulation, this is a recommended game to get.

Best balance of realism and arcade ever

I enjoy most driving games, but Dirt has to be one of my new favorites. The driving characteristics of each car are completely different, and with the tweaking you can do it helps bring it you to the next level. The graphics and damage is incredible! The online connection adds even more to the game by giving you information of other people completing the career mode and of course you can drive against people online. If you like driving games and enjoy being able to dial your car in for each track, this is the game for you.

Loads of content, fun gameplay, and nice graphics, but....

Dirt for Playstation 3 is an action-packed game with great graphics and driving realism. It is quite addicting, and the variety of vehicles and tracks surpasses MotorStorm and pretty much any other offroad racer around right now.
Career Mode has a nice pyramid setup of levels, and the difficulty progression really does work well. It takes some skill to master all the different types of races with the wide array of vehicles, but it's not overly difficult and it sure beats having it be too easy. The framerate is relatively seamless, although I have noticed some glitches here and there during races. Not overly distracting, but it is noticeable and takes away from the smooth HD conversion.
The omission of localized multiplayer is also a downfall. Online play is fine, but sometimes you just want to race against someone in your own household. Add to that the fact that you have no control over the music on here (and their music is just awful). It would not have been hard to allow users to import customized soundtracks from the PS3, and it is sorely missed. To top that off, the load times are horrendous, and before each race you're forced to look at all your career stats on an annoying display feed for almost a minute before your race finally loads.
Overall, although Dirt is a fun game with great graphics, there are a good amount of flaws that cannot go unnoticed. Still a recommended buy, however, as there's enough content on here to keep you busy for a while.

The best rally game ever

This is the best rally game I ever played. The career mode is very similar than previous version (Colin Mc Rae sagas) although time, the driving experience feels more real than ever. The graphics and sound are excellent and your oponents (new in this game) make the racing experience more aggressive. I highly recommend this racing game for those gamers that like rally driving experience.
