A vertical shooter that has an odd past...

First off, Mobile Light Force 2 is touted as the sequel to Mobile Light Force (which was really a game called Gunbird) and is the prequel to Castle Shikigami 2. How does that work, well the actual name of this game in Japan is "Shikigami no Shiro" thus the connection to Castle Shikigami 2. So in essence it is no more than a spiritual sequel to Mobile Light Force. With that out of the way, the review....

MLF2 is a vertical scrolling shooter that is bound to make all but the persistent and determined weap. It is extremely difficult as the screen is apt to be consumed in a multitude of bullets, all of which capable of killing you in one hit. You have 6 characters to choose from each with their own special abilities. There really is no driving story in the game because during the localization all the cut scenes have been removed (if you want those, try Castle Shikigami 2. But be warned of the horrendous translation). All you know is you are fighting some enemy for some reason, and in a game like this, that's enough. This is arcade twitch gaming at its finest. Very difficult and fun at the same time. You'll soon find yourself learning how to dodge through the most minute of spaces between bullet spray just to stay alive. Overall, the game is great fun if you are a fan of classic scrolling shooters and don't mind a good challenge. Otherwise, you may want to steer clear.
