A gross abuse of the great "Wizardry" Name.

When somebody buys a game with "Wizardry" in the title, they expect in-depth characters, challenging, strategic battles, a long, epic quest and wonderful monsters and NPC races. Wizardy for PS2 has NONE OF THE ABOVE.

When somebody buys a game for PS2 they expect terrific graphics, blinding speed of play, great sound and a challenging game. Once again, Wizardry has NONE OF THE ABOVE.

Wizardry for PS2 has a bogus combat system. Prepare to hit 'X' a lot to attack, choose a target, attack with Player 2, choose a target, attack with player 3, choose a target. There is no strategy, just punch X a lot.

The graphics are putrid, featuring inanimate, pictures representing players and monsters. Instead of wandering through the world and the town of Duhan, you choose left or right to skip to the next building(temple, guild, tavern, etc.). Instead of exploring the world you choose right to enter labyrinth.

This game is so poor in so many ways. The character system, weapon system and game play are put to shame by FINAL FANTASY ONE... you read that right, not FF X, or FF 7, thats FINAL FANTASY FRIGGIN' ONE.

The music is so very bad, its hard to put it into words. Imagine if you will, a bad techno beat looped over and over(in a FANTASY game, no less).

The only thing preventing me from winning this game in a weekend is my complete boredom and my barely controlled rage at the debasement of the once-great "Wizardry" name.

Do not buy this game. Rent if you must, and get ready to hit "X" a lot.

No, don't even think about it

Don't plan on it. It is bad. You will be in a bland environment, with graphics made for the N64, then you will be in a story that doesn't involve you or anyone! Awesome! Not only is there no motivation, but there is a boring game!

Take for example, save points. To save you have to leave, to leave you have to find an item or WALK back. When you learn about team attacks from this dude, he tells you all the different things then you try them. There is one that took me 3 hours to beat. It is called team defence. Every turn, 16 goblins would run at my guys, one time I tried attacking the goblins, but died horribly and had to redo my hour long work. Ok so then I tried again. This time when I did team defence, my girl would get lucky sometimes and hit something. it literally took me 2 hours just to do that battle. 3 hours because of the losing it and walking back.

Cons:
-The game costs money
-Battles are repetitive
-The environments are stupid. It is blocks. All blocks.
-You hit up, down, left, and right to do everything.
-The town is all text and stuff, there isn't any walking around.
-The game has such poor graphics that are some of the most boring and uninspired environments ever conceived in a game.
-The atari has better graphics than this game

Pros:
-The game is hard to find
-You get a receipt for buying it

didnt get the game at all

This game had some cool aspects but all in all it is not worth your money. i like to see my character on an rpg on a shooter its cool having the 1st person veiw but on here its annoying. the characters you met are really tight and well drawn but everytime they have something to say you just see a picture of them no mater if its good or bad. i give it a 2.

This is a timewarped game

I finally completed Baldur's Gate:Dark Alliance, during which
I had received this game. The manual looked like it kept the
elements of the original games (which I even went back and
replayed last summer). While replaying the old games brought
back the enjoyment of playing them on the Apple in seventh grade,
games of today are far too many and more fun to waste a lot of time on a game that in today's terms could only be considered repetive at best, and boring at worst. As with some of the previous reviews, the graphics and sound harken back to the days
of Wizardry four - the first "graphical" Wizardry. In other words, pretty poor. When I got the game I noticed that Sir-Tech did not produce it and assumed they had been bought out by this company. However, Wizardry 8 on the PC is out, and its produced by Sir-Tech. All of which is to say that don't waste your time. There are better games to spend the day away - such as Baldur's Gate or Summoner.

Mediocre RPG Doesn't Keep Up with Peers on PS2

The good: Feels like Wizardry, especially in character creation, leveling, and dungeon exploring. Deep spell lists for higher level characters. Lots of magical equipment. "Chance" interactions with other characters in out of the dungeon amusing. Fun watching your characters increase in power. Monster graphics in combat are excellent.

The bad: Zero speech. Out-of-combat static "painting" characters during dialogue, again not speech. Everything is text message. Translation is poor, with everything written awkwardly in the past tense. Example: "He stopped talking" is often written, when "He pauses" is clearly better, and in the present tense. Simplistic combat strategy will have you clicking "X" a lot, cycling through too many battles mindlessly. Can't explore the town phsyically, you essentially click to get to a location. Confined adventuring in one location, a dungeon, a la the Wizardry series.

The ugly: The music is inappropriate for an RPG, especially the "hard core" fantasy world of Wizardry. Techno-ish? And bad at that, too! Sound effects are loud, repetitive, dull, and even annoying as you click through windows and every single treasure chest. Horrible fantasy names like "Ricardo" and "Sara" hurt your suspension of disbelief.

Bottom Line: This mediocre RPG would have been more palatable on a different system, about two or three years ago. A good game for the hard-core RPG fan, or fans of the series, yet otherwise this game doesn't keep up with its peers on PS2 like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Final Fantasy X. The PS2's capabilities - information storage capacity, 3D graphics, sound quality - were clearly not maximized for this average RPG.

It Was An OK RPG

The text is written a litle too akwardly, and with bad wording. Not the best graphics. Overall I woudn't recomend it to someone who isn't either an RPG fan or realy into the series...Final Fantasy 8 happens to be my favorite in the series. The only one in the FF series that is even a little bad is Final Fantasy 9. The graphics weren't that great and the characters were weird, I mean come on, a boy with a tail and a girly haircut!

So so ...

OK, but I got tired of it very fast and gave it away.
The is out of your control too much. And as far as the graphics go ... um ... what graphics?! Don't expect special-effects either. I just found this game to be at the level of what used to come out ten years ago or so ... where these programmers sleeping all this time?

Fun game

This is a pretty fun game, it kept me busy for quite some time. One reason i like this is the way you can build your character. You can chose from a few races, then depending on your race and alignment, you can choose your class. Another thing that sets it apart from other RPG's on the PS2 is how its in first person view. The battle system is brilliant and relys heavily on teamwork. A good RPG worth buying.

Very Good Dame For Classic Roleplaying

This is a great game. While the graphics aren't supurb, it has a great game play feel. For those purest that like role playing games that are turned based and are about building up players, it is a must. The concept of building trust amongst the group to be able to do special moves is very cool.
