Unlike the horrible Madden 2006 game, EA comes out with an amazing 2006 game: Nascar 2006 Total Team Control. I like the fact that you can change your car to one of your teamates cars and bring him up through the field. I like changing from Jeff Gordon to Jimmie Johnson so i can drive Johnson up front to draft with Gordon.
I like the feature where you can tell your teammate what to do. A lot of times i need a block or a drafting partnere, and you can send amessage to your teamates to block, or draft with you.
Overall this game is very fun to play. I highly reccomend it to a Nascar fan, our a gamer looking for a good game.
Looking for realistic NASCAR ?? DON'T BUY THIS GAME !!

Some of you may be looking for just an arcade type experience where anything goes. If so, you may like Nascar 06: Total Team Control. But as for me. I want some sort of realism. It doesn't have to be perfect, but man, let's get it close.
I truly believe that NO ONE at EA has ever watched a NASCAR race. If you have watched a race, let me put it in perspective for you. I have gotten AIRBORNE, FLIPPED 5 or 6 times, and seen other AI cars do the same. WE ALL FINISH THE RACE & FIX THE DAMAGE WITH A PIT STOP !!! Anyone who watches NASCAR knows that cars that flip 5 or 6 times DO NOT FINISH 99% of the time. The only way to DNF in this game is to run out of gas or get so much damage that you blow your engine. AI cars never DNF. They can flip, explode, bounce, jump, get explosive diarrhea or whatever and they will always be there at the end.
In real NASCAR races, cars blow engines, the "big one" happens now and then, cars wreck out, etc. Not in NASCAR 06 !!! You want stats ?? NASCAR 06 has got em'.....NOT !! You can't keep track of anything except the standings for the current season. No trophy room, no personal stats or anything.
They also took a good "two stick" control system and added a crappy, poorly responsive one. Bring back the old controls !!
The rivalry system sucks too. You just tap someone, even if you had NOTHING to do with it and suddenly, the guy who hit you hates you and will die trying to "get you back". Even if you are in a chain reaction wreck that starts waaaaay ahead of you, everyone behind you who makes contact with you as you try to avoid the mess or spin out, will hate you.
Also, if you are in "Fight to The Top Mode" and buy a racing team, there are issues. There is a major glitch that freezes the game if you try to drive for Dale Jr or Roush in the Busch series and it will make you start completely over. Also, let's say you buy Penske Racing after accumulating enough money over the years. You cannot change the name from Penske to let's say "Joes Racing" or anything else you might want. And despite being the owner of the 2 car, 12 car, and your car, you can only modify yours and cannot modify any of the other cars on YOUR team, nor can you modify, hire or fire drivers for YOUR team.
I could go on and on. I am not just an EA basher. I have loved the Madden series and so wish that we could get a good, realistic NASCAR game. I would be a loyal purchaser if they could get it right, but I will NEVER buy another EA nascar game until I rent one and see what I am looking for.
Save yourself the money and don't buy this crap. The load times suck too.
Hope you get to see this EA if you ever want to win us back.

The Reason I rated NASCAR 06: Total Team Control 5 stars as the game fun, because this is the best game I've ever bought. Here are a few features:
1. Car Swapping- When you crash, you get to swap cars with your teammate.
2. Block- Now this is when somebody is coming up hot on your tail, also ther is an opponent trying to make a move right in front of you. If you have a teammate behind your rival, select the "block" command. When you select that command He'll keep that opponent behind you.
3. Move- When a teammate is like blocking your path, select the "move" command. Your teammate will move over for you.
4. Follow- When you want to draft with your teammate, select the "follow" command. That command means you want your teammate to "FOLLOW" you.
I loved the game, you should too. Availaible in stores now from EA Sports for PS2 and XBOX.
THIS IS THE TOP GAME

(i'm not really under 13..i just don't feel like giving away info..) This game is really good at the reality of the race car. I am a race car driver..so i no wat im saying..the G force on turns like turn four @ Daytona at the 55 degree mark on the 31 degree banking all the way around..is absolutly amazing...i literally zone out of my basement..and hop into the car right then and there...Like i've read and agreed on in the other reviews however ( minus the 1 and only star)..is that you can by a team on Fight to the top..but can't customly name the team..which really isnt terrible..dont let me steer you from buying this..but if it's your team..its your decision..and if its in the game..its IN THE GAME..EA Sports..its in the GAME..good job this year EA..keep it up..
I'm not a hater... I'm a player.

First of all, I own a Logitec Driving Force Pro wheel. I got it because of Gran Turismo. Now before I get started, let's all give props to Gran Turismo as being the pinnacle of driving simulators. To be honest Gran Turismo is the reason I bought NASCAR 06. I had also seen the show about Roush racing on the Discovery channel and was itching to take a pick-up truck around Darlington. I was hoping for another game that had the realism of driving a race car on a race track.
There are some shortcomings with the game. You can't use the wheel and the headset at the same time. The auto-brake feature should only be used in the rookie mode. The rivals should be left out of rookie mode too. You should have the choice of shifting in the advanced modes. The graphics are weak when compared with GT3 or GT4. HOWEVER driving this game is fun!!! I found myself in my rookie season getting really frustrated at working hard to get a lead or get competitive just to get tagged and spun out. But if you drive hard and play fair you will be rewarded by winning (or at least top 10). The game is not easy. I like that, even in rookie mode. Qualifying is hard. You have to know the tracks. The tracks are varied and quirky and none are the same. The first time I drove the track in Richmond I thought "it CAN'T be this SMALL". I wonder what the NASCAR drivers think of the game. I have heard that they turn to the game for practice to hone their knowledge of certain tracks. I hope that is true. I wish there were the other NASCAR tracks in the game.
I also like the music and wish you could just turn it all on. Nobody has created a book for this game and perhaps that's for the best. Like everyone else, I hope EA Games listens to the players of these games. It is really a fun game to play and with more realism and more tracks could become quite awesome.
Very disappointed with steering

The steering on Nascar 2006 is really awful. It's even more awful compared to the past two Nascar games. I just received the game today and tried to play it. I was really shocked at how I simply could not drive the car consistently. The steering is sluggish, but at the same time "jerky". I found it impossible to be smooth in the turns, or for that matter, be smooth on the straights trying to change lanes. The rest of the game changes seem really good, but if I can't drive the cars the other changes don't matter. I'm going to give the game away... it's that bad. I would suggest renting the game first. This is the first review I've ever written because I don't want others to make the same mistake I have made.

Nascar 06 is definately not the best it can be but it certainly the best out to date. I think that EA isn't consistent with the games though, because i loved the depth of control you had with your team in 03 picking which chassis engine and body you want this weekend, building them specific to each track. But they lacked the teams which are so crucial to nascar now 4-5 cars teams arent right in real nascar but 2-3 is reasonable enough. Basically with these teams its a one time charge to get your cars the best they can be.
I Personally love the fact that you cant hold a nice and straight line through the turns that you have to work at it, you can't just go with the basic setup you have to work with it. Plus by making the car so sensitive, its coming one step closer to being like nascar, they are very accurate in the way you have to fight the thing really hard when its loose, and the way you gotta slow way down if it's pushing.
A lot of the team commands are good ideas the car swapping is a fun idea but not something that should apply in career mode, in the arcade mode yeah because your just racing for the hell of it so you want to be able to finish it. The move over and block etc. commands are a very nice touch because that is someting that goes on in nascar. One thing i havent thought to check yet is whether or not 06 has pocono, i know 05 lacked pocono, i dont really like pocono but i do believe that they need to stick to nascar as much as possible. They also run a lot of made up tracks for the busch, trucks, and mods i think that if they are putting out a game like this they need the real tracks. The fanatasy tracks again are something for arcade mode. One final note its about time they put the truck in as a bonus feature, way to jump on the bandwagon after many years of the we want to race the truck campaign.
Review on the driving control

I just got a PS2 for Christmas, and got this game with it. I havent played any game modes other than a regualar race yet, but I have logged many races on it so far. To start off I want to mention that before I got this game I read a review on it on here, and someone said that the controls were horrible, that you couldnt tap the directional arrows and go through the turne smooth, you had to hit it so hard to make it respond that the car would go left and right instead of strait and smooth. I played it and found that same problem and was quite vexxed about it. Then me and my brother did two players and I used my PS1 controller and lo and behold, you could tap it, and it goes smooth with the PS1. So, do not use the PS2 controller with this game. Now to rate the driving, I will divide it onto two parts, long tracks and short tracks. The short tracks are fun to race on, and I dont really have a problem with them; the long tracks on the other hand, you better be careful. I rated the game four stars because it is fun, and I havent really had it for over a month, so I cant bash it, but when I am racing at Daytona, I hate it. While you are going down the strait aways, you constantly have to adjust, and then in the turns, you hit the wall alot. And dont try to bump draft, you will spin out the guy in front of you. And if you so much as touch a guy, chances are you will both go into the wall, or if you dont, thanks to the new friend and foe feature, he will hunt you like a Thanksgiving turkey. So these are my complaints. I am a NASCAR fan. I watch it every sunday the Bears dont play on, and love it. I enjoy playing the games too. But, if any EA Sports people read this for ideas, the gsmes are too realistic. Game makers are trying to give people playing them the same experiance as the pros. In real NASCAR if you bump someone, you go into the wall. If you make a sudden turn, you get loose. But remember something, they are the pros, not us. They make millions, not us. They have steering wheels, we, (most of us dont have PS steering wheels,) we have controllers with arrows on them that if you touch it, it adjusts. These games are TOO real. I have a computer game, NASCAR Heat, that is awsome. You can put it on realistic easy setting. I play it on easy because realistic is practically impossible. And one other thing I liked about this game, and the reason for the high score, is it doesnt worship Dale Jr. Dale Earnheart Sr was a good driver, Jr is just an average driver who wins on restrictor plate tracks because he has good engines because daddy gave him a ride. Jr isnt the worst driver, but he has never won a championship, and he isnt a real threat, and deffinitley isnt one of the tops drivers. Give the praise to Gordan, Stewert, Biffle, Kenseth, and Kurt Busch, he is a good driver, even though he is a jackass. Well, thus ends my review. Go Newman, and da Bears!

Whom ever is in charge of the NASCAR series for EA needs to be fired. Who ever this person is has no idea about the sport what so ever. Once again EA wastes really good graphics and inoventions. Please someone tell me the last time they saw a NASCAR race and when the car hit the wall at 200 mph the car was able to keep going and win the race? PLus just bumping someone by accidnet does NOT always result in retaliation resembling a suicide run. Also for some reason ea decided its wants o see how frustrated they can make you by making steering incredibly hard. Since there is no other nascar game EA has the market cornered and certainly does not listen to the fans. Its a decent game that will frustrate you more than please you.
