BloodRayne 2 is much better than the first, because the graphics are much more realistic, the plot is solid, and the acrobatic moves are far more cool.

I did not like the first Bloodrayne, and going into this one I was completely burnt out on the concept of half-human half-vampires and all of their obligatory angst. However, I am partial to sexy redheads in leather wielding arm blades and guns, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. To my surprise, the game was fantastic. I was worried at first, since the graphics seemed dated, but it didn't take long before I realized it was probably a compromise to make way for the real physics engine.

For some, the novelty of murdering people by decapitation, impalement, or severing limbs may wear off early, but if you're creative you can find ways to kill that perhaps the developers never intended. Abilities such as slowing or freezing time and blood fury (relative invincibility and increased gratuitousness) open up all kinds of possibilities. There's a story here too, but one that takes a backseat to the action and more primal appeal of the game. Rayne's edginess only adds to her allure, and she has some of the funniest one-liners since Hana of Fear Effect fame. Extras such as new outfits, art galleries, god mode, and a trailer for the BloodRayne movie are just more incentive to play through to the end. In short, this game is everything its predecessor wasn't - FUN.

Awsome Game

I always thought that game looked stupid but one of my friends got me to play it and now its my favorite game.

Rayne is out to kill her fathers family for good. You battle vampires, damphires, and very mad people. You get items such as guns, swords, aqua vision, and harpoons. You start off in a mansion and work your way to alleys and rooftops. Overall I think this is a great day I've beat it 3 times and I still play it all the time. You wont waste your money or time.

Fun at first, but gets repetitive after a while

The first Bloodrayne game was a surprisingly fun third person actioner with a busty heroine, so naturally a sequel was subsequently released. Titular half vampire, half human heroine Rayne returns in the modern day this time, taking on descendants of her evil father Kagan who are planning to resurrect their master and bring chaos to the world. With Bloodrayne 2, the story is only secondary as you hack, slash, and splatter tons of foes who all look like they robbed the local Hot Topic. How you dispatch these enemies is where the real fun of the game is to be had; as different button combinations allow you to perform different, and bloody, kill combos. Also, there are slight puzzle elements where you must dispatch an enemy using the environment to advance, which is a nice touch as well. However, the game does get quite repetitive after a while, which isn't much of a surprise, but it really hurts the game's overall rating. The game looks decent for the most part and the over the top gore is nicely done, while the atrocious dialogue and terrible voice acting grates on the nerves, but has a goofy charm to it nonetheless. All in all, Bloodrayne 2 is worth checking out for a quick and bloody action fix, and hey, it least it's better than the movie that was adapted from it.

What if I were to say to you, "Hey, how would you like to play as a hot, big-breasted red-headed half-human half-vampire chick armed to the teeth who cuts off arms and legs while out for revenge against a mad vampire cult and wearing skintight leather?"

Fans of BR1 will be glad to know that number two in the series delivers more of the same, only better. Bigger, bloodier, more ambitious and epic while still remaining true to its splatter-horror-game roots, BR2 has a lot to offer.

There are a good variety of nasty fatality moves and ways to harpoon enemies onto spikes, fire, and electrocuting circuits. In the beginning you might think all the game does is throw hordes of easy-to-kill thugs at you, but variety is mixed up in the second half with plenty of other acrobatic vampire enemies and minor boss monsters. The game succeeds not just as brutal fun but also as a cinematic experience - the story and script are creative and interesting and the voice acting is fantastic. The dialogue is mostly driven by Rayne's dry sense of humor and is hilarious.

On top of that, it's just plain sexy - they address every conceivable fetish known to man. From leather S&M to blood to same-sex to oral fixation (gratuitous girl-on-girl bloodsucking). Even the killing and gore has some inexplicable sense of sexuality to it.

I've beaten the game several times and it has a lot of replay value. There's always that one move you didn't use, after all. My favorite is "Curtain Twice Torn", which splits your enemy clean in two, right down the middle. The puzzles are pretty obvious and yet tons of grisly fun. The main bosses are somewhat challenging until you figure out the "secret" to beating them, except the Unravveler, which was the only disappointment. I thought there was a secret, but after hours of playing around it seems the only way to beat him is to use the blood hammer over and over. If anyone finds some easier secret to beating him, please e-mail me.

Highly, highly recommended. I'll bet the movie will be crap though.

Gory fun had throughout.

I was a big fan of the original Bloodrayne when it became somewhat of a sleeper hit a few years back.
Now Bloodrayne 2 is definitely better than the first, but it didnt have that special something as the first game did.

This game starts out slow and boring. Raynes moves are severely limited at the games start. But you slowly begin to gain new abilities and the game becomes a whole lot more fun.
The special abilities and fatalities are just so over the top its great. Over the top fun like a Kill Bill sort of way.

But there are some things i wasnt too pleased about. The first games low point were its 'jumping puzzles' and this games weak point was the same. Rayne many vertical and horizontal pole jumps were annoying and repititive. It sucks to climb 500 feet in a tower than miss one jump and have to climb all the way up again. 3D platforming is made fun in some games but Bloodrayne isnt one of them.

And whats the deal with the Blood Guns? Sure there are rocket launchers and shotguns, etc, but why do they have to run on 'blood?' Uzis, shotguns, and rpgs are more fun than Blood Stream, Blood Spray, and Blood Bomb. Lame.

Still, the game is a joy to play and the killing puzzles were handled awesome. Like throwing a baddie into a newspaper print machine, thus making it print red soaked newspapers, and having it blow up. Or pulling a truck off a cliff to squash a baddie while simultaneously breaking open a locked gate. Genius.

If you shop around you can find this game for a very reasonable price. And in the end its worth every penny for its gory over the top action.

NOT as good as the first

I recently finished Bloodrayne (1) and was blown away. Sure, the story was cliche and the graphics were definitely early PS2. However, the gameplay was way too fun. As befitting a vampire, Rayne could jump huge heights. She also had some great evasion moves, good looking attacks, and a large variety of weapons scattered about. I was SHOCKED to realize while I was playing it that I was REALLY enjoying myself. Coupled with a strong bullet time effect, BR1 had so many "oh my gosh that's awesome" moments to last me a while.

What I wanted in a sequel was some minor tweaks, upgraded graphics, and a better story. Instead, much of what I love from BR1 is now missing in BR2. Now, Rayne can only jump a very pitiful height, bullet-time (time dilation....whatever) does not slow time NEARLY as much, and there is virtually no weapon variety. You can't even shoot guns or harpoons in the air anymore! And the corkscrew double jump...yup....gone.

Yes, Rayne has a larger arsenal of moves, but most of them seem unnecessary....I used everything that BR1 offered.....BR2 seems to have a lot of moves simply so it has a lot of moves.

Some people say that BR1 was too easy, but I disagree. BR1 had 3 difficulty settings, and the hard difficulty provided more challenge than the only difficulty level offered here....at least a choice was presented.

My other big gripe is what has replaced much of the gameplay that I loved.....acrobatics. Sections of the game feel DIRECTLY ripped from Prince of Persia- except that the control isn't as good as POP's was. Even the graphics try to get the whole "bloom" feel that POP had- yet again it was better done in POP. Seriously, the gameplay similarities at points are criminal. I don't understand why developers saw the need to emulate another (admittedly excellent) game when they already had their own original gameplay innovations to work off of.

What you're left with is a functional, enjoyable action game that simply isn't as awe-inspiring or original as the first game.

Cool POP clone

I have been playing Bloodrayne 2 for about a week now and I have to say up front that it sure reminds me of Prince of Persia WW. Which is not to say that Bloodrayne is a bad game, quite the opposite, it rocks. Fantastic level design, loads of baddies, great moves, and music to gore by, rail sliding, and guns-guns-guns!! I have finally gotten the combat system under control and can now lop of heads, arms, and legs with aplomb, spearing a guy in the gut and tossing him into a furnace, or a big ol' spike, these are the moments gamers live for. The graphics are really good for the size of the game, loads of textures for buildings, curtains that get holes, tears and blood on them as you fight, masssive minions that die really well, it's all here. Let's not forget the story, you'll actually want to watch the cutscenes. I'm impressed, add that to the fact that this game can be had for under 20.00 and... WE HAVE A WINNAH!!
Get it, you'll like it, theres nothing like beating the hell out of four pipe wielding thugs amid screams and trash talking as blood and bullets fly. And that only covers the surface, the level of carnage you can wreak on enemies in blood fury mode is astounding. There are more gun modes than I can cover, from machine pistols, to flaming rounds, and timed blood bombs, all the way to shotgun like blasters. Dig it.
