Well, the kids have enjoyed a LOT. Too bad the microphone is a complete piece of junk (which is the reason for 1 star). The wire(s) are loose inside of it and it either won't work at all or scratches horribly. We've only had it since September. Recommendation - avoid.
Update 2008-05: Have since contacted Logitech (maker of the microphone) by phone, and email several times. Was promised a no-cost replacement mic. It took some time and multiple follow up emails & phone calls to finally recieve it 3 mos after the initial contact.
Great for kids but you can win by humming through songs!!!!!!!

This game was my first karaoke game experience and from what i hear it is the best available. How sad. I was thrilled when i got the opportunity to play the game. I am not the greatest singer but i try. But I was soon to be extremely disappointed. I actually beat a friend of mine (who i consider to have a beautiful voice)after watching her seven year old daughter hum or some other such nonsense through half of all of her songs and STILL get at least a very high score if NOT WIN THE WHOLE GAME. Anyone who believes they sing well because they score high on this game is deluding themselves. Its not required you even know the words to the song. (which, anyone who ever watched American Idol knows, that is the biggest boo-boo to make on the show) I scored a maximum score in the expert level on a song my friend had tried to master several times. I did not sing it well. it was awful in fact. However because I could get my voice where it needed to be to keep the arrow up, it was enough to win the game with the highest score possible in the game. For this reason I do not find this game worth the high price for the game and required components. and lets not mention the questionable graphics of the game. I am VERY happy I didnt purchase this game.

Nice game, with good graphics. The song selection is not that good, and the comments by the judges get rather stale, but over all it's a great addition to the Karaoke Revolution line.
Fun singing the songs but get rid of the judges!

I have a regular karaoke machine and I have gone out to places to sing so I like to sing, I am used to singing and hearing myself sing. That being said I was interested in how good this game would be. It is a lot of fun! The song selection goes from more current songs to classics from Elvis, Billy Joel and The Righteous Brothers. You can create your own character then either just try singing some songs or trying to be the next American Idol. But the options don't stop there. There are three basic modes - American Idol Contest, One Mike and Two Mike. The One Mike mode can be used to practice or it has its own options including a challenge mode for 2-8 people. This would be great for parties. But the main part is the American Idol mode where you can simulate going through the American Idol process. It is fun going through the process but the judges comments are a waste. Randy and Simon are there but Paula is not (they use a generic woman that doesn't say anything nasty.) It is fun at first but then it gets crazy when Randy or Simon compliment on a great job and then tell you it is the worst thing they have heard. Fortunately you can bypass them by just hitting Continue (X on a Playstation 2.) You will also hear Ryan Seacrest (but never see) hosting the show as you advance along.
There are plenty of other features. When you sing for points, the amount of points you earn help you win a Gold, Silver or Platinum record. If you get a Perfect score you get a Diamond record. As you earn Platinum, Silver and Diamond records, you get to unlock other character costumes, new songs to sing and short video samples from past Idol contestants including some of the crazy auditions.
Is it good for the serious singer? I think so. Why? As you sing it shows you where your pitch is in realtionship to what it considers the correct version. It has helped me concentrate on staying on pitch, breath control and being able to control and adjust my voice. Tone quality or diction? Forget about it! All it cares about are notes and sticking to them.
Overall, if you like to sing and ever wanted to be on American Idol, this is a great game. One last bit of advice. I bought the American Idol pack from Konami with the Microphone included. Don't bother. The mike I received didn't pick up lower frequency notes very well and I ended up buying a Logitech USB Microphone.

I bought this game after comparing it to SingStar. I liked the songs on this game better and also am an Idol fan so this choice seemed better for me. The game is fun, song choices are diverse and very good. In Idol mode, you perform in an audition, get feedback and wait until you get yor tickets to Hollywood. You then can progress thru the series of eliminations - just like on the show. You also "Unlock" some songs, characters and apparel as you progress. There are also quickplay and one and two mc party modes. However, I am not sure whether it is a defect with the particular copy I have or a more global defect, but it is very difficult to select songs, your name, venue and a character as the cursor flies by so quickly it is difficult to highlight the desired selection. You can also select the level of judging criteria (easy, medium, hard, expert). Along with the words displayed, there are visual indications (bars with an arrow showing actual vs. target) on how high or low you should be singing which enable you to correct pitch problems. Overall, a lot of fun. You can use it with your EyeToy camera to see yourself on screen. I'm bringing my copy back and hoping the selection trouble is just with my particular copy.

This game can be a real challenge to achieve perfection on the harder difficulties staying with the EXACT arrangement (note for note) of the demo, but it's a lot of fun. It's pretty addictive because each time you complete a song, you want to try to do better to get a better score and prove Simon wrong! If you know the songs, there is practically no learning curve. I could see it not only being a good party game, but also a nice practice tool for vocal students to challenge them on their pitch. I beat the game twice in a row on Expert, but it's still quite a challenge to improve your skills. The judges are a little brutal and sometimes contradict themselves, but it's kind of funny. My two cons: 1. I think there should be more songs availalbe, at least on download or something because going thru at 8 rounds a game you use up the 40 pretty quickly (and you have to unlock several of them first). 2. There's no Paula, just some generic Paula look-a-like. (Of course some people might think that's a pro...)
The character creator is fun, you can unlock clothes and other accessories and change them for the different rounds. Haven't had an opportunity to try the multiplayer yet (I just got the game last night) but it looks like it'd be a blast. You can play multiplayer with one mic (alternating performances before the elimination) or you can do a duet, but you'll need two mics (You can use Socom mics too). There is also a karaoke level. Overall, a pretty good game. I'm hooked! ;)
Pretty good.

My children were slightly disappointed. But overall, for a crowd, it's a lot of fun.

When I first saw this game, I thought that it would be fun for the fact that I have the other Karaoke Revolutions for the PS2.
Though I did have fun playing this with my friends, I was kind of let down that the song selection was kind of piddly. The last few Karaoke Revolutions have a better selection of songs.
That being said though, the new little microphone is a lot more fun for the fact that you don't feel like Britney Spears with the headset mic. Plus, the costume changes and such are fun. Plus the judges comments are fun. But a big downfall.... Where's Paula? And who is Laura?
Needless to say, this if just for a good drunken Karaoke night. I don't drink much, but when I do, this game is always in!
So much fun!

I love this game! My whole family has fun with it. It has lots of songs, but I wish you could somehow add to it. I love dressing up my character and changing the look.
Family fun for all

We had a blast with this game, as a family. Love the retro songs. Would like to see some modern ones for the kids, but it was fun to hear my daughter sing 'hungry like the wolf". Tons of fun! I recommend the shorter version for groups, but this is very versitle. Great Game!
