Best game ever? Yeah-heah-heah!

God! Where do I begin? It isn't everyday that I play a great game with as much originality as this. Let's face it. A great fighting game is still just another fighting game, but there is only one Ecco. And what a game this is! Jaw dropping, photorealistic graphics. You won't find visuals like this anywhere for a very, very long time. I swear! The collision problems that plagued Sonic Adventure are also gone. Fluid, easy controls. You'll be swimming like a dolphin in no time. Challenges coming out the wazzoo! You'll find stages that'll test your powers of perception, your skill and reflexes, your intuition, and of course your thinking skills. You'll even find areas that provide instant death to the unwary. This is no kiddie game! This is an experience. And it's a prolonged experience, as it has more than twenty stages. The sounds and music are also sweet, and the story is out of this world. Is this the best game ever? To me it is. You'd better believe it!

One of the best games for kids under age 5

At the same time when I got my Dreamcast, I tried to find a game for my 4-year old daughter. I then found Ecco-The Dolphin. I didn't read any review and saw any demo about this game. But I was amazed with the beautiful, realistic graphics of the game. The Ecco is so innocent so cute and so real. I played together with my daughter many times. It is truly one of the best choice for this age kids. In terms of game play, it is not as exciting as Sonic Adventure. It is more an art piece than game. That's why I reserve 5 start for this title.

It looks so good, but is not as fun as it looks

This game looks most gorgeous with great textures, light sourcing, really great character models and sound effects.

But playing the game is something else. Swimming of course is easy and eating fish and hitting your dolphin friends with sonar is fairly simple.

But when you have no idea where what you have to find next is the game can get kind of frustrating. You are told "find my whale baby" and the only reason you can find it is because the board is not that big and eventually after searching Every nook and cranny you find where the baby is (after searching the whole place 4 times). Then on the next board you get attacked by vicious sharks with no knowledge of how to fight them. Ecco ends up looking like a fish flapping in a poison lake while he tries to dodge out of the way of the mindless shark attacks. I know dolphins are not fish but hey thats what it looks like.

I wish I had rented this game first. It was not my idea of great fun. Good looks, cool idea, not that fun to play.

Ecco is the Zelda of the Dreamcast.

This the best game ever made for the dreamcast. The cleanest most beutiful game my eyes have ever seen. Breathtaking 3-D underwater environments and deep sea creatures make this a worthwhile purchase. If you haven't already bought this game you're missing out. Brought to you by apaloosa the creaters of... well?... ECCO! A giant leap from the genesis days. Any ecco fan, or anyone who has never played the older games will be beyond a state of bliss. I strongly reccomend this to anyone who.... uh... well... anyone! This game will be a stepping stone for many games to come. This is a game that will be remembered for all time as a classic work of art. No gamer should live without it. -Brian

BEWARE: VERY HARD GAME

Ok, I'm sure if you read any reviews before this one you got the picture, but just in case: This is a gorgeous game. I mean the kind of game that makes you feel like you're really there. But then you get over that and realize you've got a game to play. So anyway, the story's confusing, and sort of stupid, but the game's really pretty fun. You could spend hours jumping and swimming, as long as you don't get seasick. The biggest problem is that this game is hard. Unfairly hard. Evilly hard. Or maybe it's just me. But I don't think it is. I gave up on the first level and looked at a walkthrough I found on the internet. I still couldn't do it. I recommend this game anyway, especially if you're a skilled gamer. If you have no patience, try something else.

A happy rewiewer for Echo the Dolphin...

This game might not be the usual blow-em-up-with-machine-guns game, but it provides great entertainment. There are several reasions why I like this game. -for one thing, the graphics are awesome, some of the scenes could almost be real -the character (Echo) moves like a real dolphin would -the interactions with the rest of the characters are amazing, there are poisonous fish, but they are the only ones who can cure the deadly sting of the jelly fish -there are many components to the game, such as finding the jewels, talking with other characters, and escaping the sharks -the dolphin has many moves, like being able to see above the water for long times There are also few downsides, but they are minor things like: -having to come up for air every minute or so (but this also makes the game a lot more real -when the dolphin is near the surface of the water, the screen can be a little bit dizzying -the dolphin can be somewhat hard to control at first, but you'll get used to it I hope this helps you to decide to buy this game! I hope you find this as fun as I do!

Breathtaking Graphics and Marvelous Gameplay

As a fan of the original Ecco The Dolphin, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Ecco on the Dreamcast. I was not disapointed. This game has simply the best graphics the Dreamcast has to offer, in my opinion. Beautiful underwater graphics and realistic looking. The gameplay is wonderful. The controls are hard to learn, but its one of those challenging parts of a games youll love. The storyline is really good, I wont give away any of the goodies. Youll have to play yourself. I really reccomend this game, its a lot of fun!

great game + awesome graphics

This game is visually beautiful. The landscape is amazing, and the animals in the water act real. Ecco the Dolphin has a great story. I have had it for a week and a half and have almost finished it. It has a steep learning curve but you get most of the songs and gifts early in the game. It has a huge amount of exploring so expect to spend some time on it. If you're hesitating about buying this game, then stop right now because it's awesome.

This game has great graphics, great underwater AI, and Ecco is just like a real dolphin, but this game is TOO puzzling. I only managed to get past the first level. I regret buying it. Don't buy it.

Good and Bad

This game is great in so many ways. Ecco handles exactly as you would expect a dolphin to handle, and the scenary is gorgeous. For those who experienced Ecco in the old 2D games, this version will satisfy your nostalgia. Its got everything you have come to love from Ecco games

However...this game is tough... really really tough. Although this difficulty sometimes results from the puzzles or enemies, it is more often caused by gameplay issues. First, Ecco gets stuck easily in ocean rocks and vegetation, and you will scream at your TV in frustration as frequently come to a dead stop at the worst moments. Second, some of the stages are very dark, and you'll often find yourself straining to see even the most obvious details. One wonders why they couldn't raise the contrast just a bit more when they made the game. Finally, you can't save your game until you complete a level. Some of these levels take a long time to complete; it frequently gets to a point where you must choose between quitting and starting from scratch later, or continuing to play even though you have a headache from staring at the screen for 4 hours.

But the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion :)
