Darkstalkers was a serious underground game when it came because not many people knew about it but as soon as people started to hear about it, it became a huge rat race to play this game and eventually get it on the home system. I personally was really enthused when it came to the home system and I got to play it because it was just like how it played in the Arcades and that the same texture, design and animation was also included in the home system.
This plays similar to any of the 2-D Street Fighters but this one, had (at the time) what no Street Fighters had and that was special and I have to say, some of which are very funny (like when Anakaris drops a huge tomb on you).
Another thing that I really liked about this was that each character was truly an individual because at the time that this came out, UMK (Ultimate Mortal Kombat) was still out and each character only really looked different and not much else. Whereas on Darkstalkers, each character looked different, had their own quirks and perks and each was definitely individual.
Seriously, get this one. You won't be disappointed! Even if you're not a 2-D fan, you'll appreciate watching a Vampire, Wolfman, Mummy and about another 12 characters muscle it out with each other.
good port of a good game

Darkstalkers is one of Capcom's better games. The game features some of Capcom's best character design work: Bishamon, Anakaris and Sasquatch are all a joy to play with very cool special moves. The game avoids the high-combo obsessions that later Capcom games fall into. The playstation port for this, the first Darkstalkers, is fairly good whereas the ports of the later Darkstalkers games tend to have choppy animation.
In short, a worthwhile addition to any 2-D fighting gamer's library.
THIS GAME IS AESOME!!
