Sometimes, there can be too much of a commercially successful movie franchise, it seems to be too good to be true. That also can be said with some video games. But, when the two of them are mixed together into a video game based on a movie series, that most of the time it can really be a diaster. That could be said for High School Musical. The Disney movie and its sequel has been one of the most watched events in cable TV history. Yet, with all the success, of other music games like Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revoltion, it can seem to be a recipe for a sing-along Wii title, and here it is.

High School Musical: Sing It for the Nintendo Wii takes on the successful Disney movie franchise by letting you play your favorite High School Musical characters like Zac and Britney into the control of your own voice. The gameplay is just like other games that involve singing like American Idol, as you sing along to songs from the 2 Disney movies, High School Musical 1 & 2, like What Time Is It? and many others. The graphics are fair to look at, but the gameplay doesn't seem to draw into anyone but die hard fans of the movie. The sound fairs well, but the enjoyment of this game doesn't appeal to anyone who hasn't watched the loveable film series, but die hard fanatics alone of Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, or for those who just love songs from movies that are young at heart.

All in all, High School Musical is a great concept for the moment, but it just isn't as much of a must buy for Wii owners. It is a good party game, but I really would just consider this concept as a rental game only. It is definitely time to find something else to play, considering High School Musical: Sing It just misses the mark.

This game is ODD. It discourages young ones by not having a "non-scored" play option - my little one doesn't want to play it very much because she's getting Cs on some of the songs. It's not a true karaoke experience - you sing along with the characters. Also, when you chose a female character, you may be assigned the male part of the duet or vice versa - with harmonies rather than the recognizable tune of the song. While picking out the harmony might be a fun challenge to include as an option, it's too often the default and confusing for younger children (& their parents, to be honest). For such a great product (Wii) and a great theme (HSM), this game falls seriously short, looking like it was just thrown together in time for the Christmas ru$h. Too bad.

Gets boring really fast

We bought this game for our 6 year old daughter who is obsessed with High School Musical (1 & 2). We thought she'd love singing along with her favorite characters to the songs she sings repeatedly throughout the day. At first she did enjoy it but now that we have had it for a week, she is already asking me what else there is to do on the game. And like other parents have said, she gets very discouraged when she only gets a "c" grade for her attempts. Also, in order to unlock the extra songs, my husband and I were stuck singing High School Musical songs for days on end in order to get a "grade" or score that unlocked the songs. My daughter really wanted to sing along to the song "Fabulous" but it wasn't a standard song and it took me an awful lot of singing to get it unlocked. And after all my efforts, my daughter sang along to "Fabulous" two times, got a "C" grade both times, got discouraged and is no longer interested. This game is really limited in terms of fun. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are okay with singing High School Musical songs over and over and over and over again (or listening to them).

I just love to watch my kids singing. It does need a microphone and I don't believe it says so, so order that too.
