Destined to be a classic

Zack & Wiki Quest for Barbados Treasure is one of those games that from the surface looks fairly shallow and childish but underneath is an excellent game that will appeal to both casual and hard-core gamers. The game consists of piloting Zack (a wannabe Pirate) and Wiki (his golden flying mechanical monkey) through puzzles in different worlds. The learning curve is good, after the first mission you will be well on your way to figuring out the puzzles with ease...but not for long. The puzzles gradually become harder until they are wicked difficult.
Underneath the cell shaded cartoon looks of this game is a deep logic-strategy game, I would recommend this game to anyone 8 years old and over. This game is a must-have if you are a fan of classic point-and-click adventures such as the old LucasArts adventures (Sam & Max, Full Throttle), or Sierra (Kings Quest, Space Quest).

Read such great reviews for this game between Nintendo Power and Amazon, I had to have it. This is my game. Son finally did start his own game now instead of stealing the controller from me all the time. Challenging puzzles have kept us interested. Not too embarassed to admit the few times we have had to make a quick visit to [...] to get a hint. Nice to have a place to get information rather than the game not getting played because we are stuck. Overall the game is usually intriguing, sometimes frustrating, but fun. Definately lived up to the reviews.
The not-so-great aspects of Z&W

If you've read any other of the Z&W reviews, I'm sure you've heard all about the general game play and the games many positive aspects, thus with this review, I will be focusing on two issues I had with this title.
Z&W hits the player with many interesting and clever puzzles that often use the Wii remote in new ways, however, like all puzzle and point-and-click games, once you have solved these puzzles and finished the game, there's nothing left to do. Sure, you can play through the game again and find additional secret treasure or try to improve your score, but the fun in Z&W is in figuring out how to manipulate the game environment to get around the obstacles in your way, not finding randomly spawning secret treasure or beating your own high score. Once you've played through the game, replaying the game just involves recalling how you beat a level the first time. Nothing new is included.
One other issue with the game is the difficulty curve. The game is certainly meant to be a brain teaser and it does just that for the vast majority of the game. However, the last 2-3 stages, the difficulty shoots up in a very drastic way. Practically every wrong move results in death, as compared to the rest of the game where there is far more leeway. In the rest of the game, typically when you mess up, you can try again. In these last few levels, when you mess up, you have to start over. There was no steady increase in difficulty or sudden death moments throughout the game. It just happens all of a sudden on the last few levels.
I commend Capcom for trying to create a new IP. Should this game get a sequel, I sincerely hope the problems that I mentioned be corrected. However, due to the lack of replayability and the sudden change in difficulty, I must say that this title is a rental at best.
Creative and extremely fun, Zack & Wiki should not be passed up

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure is truly one of the best and most entertaining video game productions that I have had the joy of owning. The level design is always original and the puzzles are some of the best I have seen.
It is one of the few games that actually puts a smile on my face and draws out laughter during every level. Each puzzle is extremely satisfying to complete; the difficulty level is perfect, making you contemplate every possible solution.
It's whimsical art style fits perfectly and the sound effects are great. The entire package is stunning and comes highly recommended to every Wii owner out there, child or adult.

Zack and Wiki is the epitome of a hidden gem. Here you have a game that isn't going to sell very well, and looks positively absurd with a ridiculous looking pirate and his gold monkey friend adorning the cover. Well I'm here to tell you that this game is fantastic. No other game so cleverly uses the wii-mote to let you complete mind-bending and amazing puzzles. The puzzles are simultaneously difficult, but also intuitive in that you may be there scratching your head for a while, but very you'll eventually figure it out by just using logic and persistence. Everyone should go out and get this game and show third-party companies that wii owners will buy good third-party games like this.
Check this game out!

This is the best point-and-click adventure game to come along in a long time. I'm an old school adventure gamer (Zork, King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Monkey Island, Legend of Kyrandia, etc) and I love this game. I beg you to buy it so they'll continue to make these games!

I am a new Wii gamer (recently introduced to the game world through Wii--can't play games using normal game controllers, too complicated). I bought this game for my sons and I ended up playing it with my husband. It is so much fun figuring out how to get the treasure. You have to use Wii control in many different ways--flip, turn, crank, etc.--to come up with how to use the items that you find to solve each puzzle. My sons are trying to take away the control from us, but until we finish the game, I doubt we will give it up! We are hooked! (Sorry kids.) I feel it is educational for kids as it will help with their analytical skills. Although characters, Zack(kid pirate-wannabee) and Wikki(golden monkey that turns into a bell when you encounter enemies and turn them into useful items) are cartoon characters, the animation is crisp and detailed. It is not violent as there is no fighting or action scenes (Zack can get killed if he does the wrong thing, but nothing gruesome), but due to the level of the puzzle, it is more for the older kids--not younger than 7--or for younger children, parents should provide help with solving the puzzle. (just don't take over the controls and forget about the kids like we did). Highly recommended!
Great, fun puzzle game!

I'm really enjoying this game. It's a perfect puzzle game that's a lot of fun, easy to pick up and put down, and uses the Wii remote in fantastic ways. A great game for all ages! This fills a real need in the Wii library. I'm usually a traditional adventure gamer and am not so much into puzzle games, but this is really appealing.

If you love solving puzzles, Zack & Wiki is a true surprise & delight, with great challenges, fun characters, and even laughs! I hope they come out with a sequel for this game!
I wasn't expecting much from this title when I first looked at the box -- it looked like it might be some uninspired cartoonish game for young kids. Turns out that I was totally wrong. This game is perfect for adults, and it is super well-designed with an unbelievable attention to detail. Every puzzle is both fun to solve and challenging to figure out! Almost every puzzle contains multiple mini-puzzles within it, and then you must do everything in the right sequence with the right timing. If not, you get killed and have to start that puzzle all over again (although you are presented with opportunities to revive yourself to wherever you were before you got killed). There's even a built-in hint oracle who can help you if you get stuck.
The graphics are absolutely phenomenal, the characters are cute & fun to interact with; the music & sound effects are perfectly suited for each puzzle, and each puzzle introduces you to little mini-characters & miniature plotlines. You literally feel like you're being whisked away to faraway islands for each puzzle. Oh, and I almost forgot: the use of the Wii controller to solve puzzles is very creative.
Some of the puzzles will take you a while to figure out -- some of the more intricate ones can take an hour or more to figure out.
The only thing that's a slight downer is that there's no spoken dialogue in the game -- you have to read what the animated characters are saying. But they certainly have fun vocal sounds to listen to.
Overall, this game is FUN & CHALLENGING, and you will find yourself hooked on it in no time. Capcom, please come out with a sequel!

Capcom's 2007 release "Zack & Wiki" for the Nintendo Wii is suprisingly good. Although not very well known this may be the greatest puzzle game for the Wii.
Story:
Zack and Wiki are pirates on a quest for treasure using a low budget plane rather than traveling with a ship. They are soon attacked by Captain Rose, the villain in the game, and crash land on an island. They find a treasure chest with a Golden Skull named Barbaros who was cursed years ago. Their adventure begins when Barbaros makes a deal with Zack to return his body back to normal and Zack can have the treasure he always dreamed of, a pirate ship.
Gameplay:
This game uses the max capabilites of the wii remote. No nunchuck is required to play. You take on tasks in each stage to help you get the treasure. You'll need to avoid traps and other obstacles along the way in order to be successful. There are boss fights that can be difficult if you don't always think your next move. The challenges become more advanced as the game continues and may be frustrating at times. Luckily you can always buy dolls for hints to help you out. However, doing so lowers your score.
Graphics:
This games looks beautiful. The presentation is top notch and there are cell-shaded cartoony graphics that can be compared to The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker, but look much better here. The environments and level design are very pleasant to look at. Each character design looks amazingly unique. Those who enjoy anime-like style graphics would really enjoy this game.
Conclusion:
This game may not be for everyone. Since the game can often be too challenging for younger gamers they may want to through their wii remote across the room. At the same time the game has been put so well together it's hard not to recommend this. It's enjoyable so long as you try not to go crazy if you can't figure out a stage in the first try. For $40 your getting a lot of entertainment here. There are unlockables such as: gameplay music, character profiles, cut-scenes, concept art and more. If you feel a little weary about the challenge level rent it first and go from there.
