Not worth it!

I thought this game would be something like Ubrz in the City or Bustin Out with missions to complete and fun things like that. But this game is no fun at all! You are stranded on a desert island and you have to try to get off. The conversations with people are no fun and the objectives are unclear and no fun to complete. I like sims game but not this one! Save your money and buy something fun like Thrillville.

One of the Most Frustrating Games I've Ever Played

I too am a big fan of the Sims franchise, and had a blast playing the (highly addictive) Sims 2 for the DS. But I am ready to throw Castaway into the sea.
While a cool concept and fun to get started on, it becomes very frustrating very quickly. I spend all my time now hunting one particular kind of fish so I can progress through the game. It's been three days and I still have not caught the stupid fish.
I guess the game is still too new to have a helpful walkthrough online, but from what I've read in the forums there are a lot of people as frustrated as I am at other points in the game which makes me not very anxious to move forward anyway. There is something to be said for a challenge--but not to the point that it makes you become so frustrated you want to put down the game!

Not so fun.

I love puzzles and I love Sims so from what I gathered from other reviewers (on Amazon and elsewhere), I figured this would be something I'd enjoy--despite some of the reviews being bad.
At first it was kind of fun, but then it became tediously boring. I will confess that I'm usually really bad about beating games: I think I've actually beat four or five in my lifetime--and I spent months (Zelda LTTP and OoT). I finished this game in about a day and a half and felt totally unsatisfied. It was really, very boring.

Fortunately, I sold mine in the marketplace and have since purchased the Zelda game--which has been very entertaining.

Fun until 50% done.

This was a fun game until I finished helping the castaways. After that it became pointless because I could escape the island. After helping the castaways, the only reason to stay on the island is to finish your collections, which is pretty boring. The game also freezes at times so to continue playing I needed to restart the DS. I would rent the game or not buy it at all because it just isn't worth all the money, for the time you actually enjoy it.

Okay at first...

I was really excited about getting this game after reading the enthusiastic reviews about it. I was not disapointed at first. The game had an incredible story to go along with it, and you learned to survive. But it was very annoying how you had to constantly fill your needs at the same time. Also, almost all the foods had a downside to them. For example, the food could increase your stomach but decrease your hygiene.
I had expected much moer from this game, and it could be much better.

Sims 2 With A Twist

This is definitely a great addition to the Sims line, and the DS system makes the gameplay interactive and fun. The first time I played, I couldn't put it down. I always had to find something new, or get to the next puzzle, or figure out how to help my fellow Sims.

My favorite part about this game is that it's not your typical Sims 2... there are no careers to choose or Simeleons to earn. You're just trying to survive at first (making a leanto to sleep in, foraging for food), and as you progress you can play musical instruments, make clothes, create decorations for your hut, and plant/harvest your own fruit and veggies. It's very much like a mix between Sims and point-and-click adventure games. You still have to make sure your Sim's basic needs are met, but you also have to collect items, put them together to create new items, help out your fellow Sims, and solve puzzles. There are tons of objects to find and places to explore.

My only complaints are that your items/objectives/upgrades screen is occassionally difficult to navigate (took me a while to figure out how to find the screen that told me what I needed to make certain tools), some of the other Sims get cranky with you if you don't solve their problem right away and you have to give them gifts to boost their mood, and some of the objects/tools are really tough to locate and collect.

Overall, though, great game.

Glad the SIMS have come to the DS platform!

I've been playing the various computer type of SIMS from the beginning- and I have pretty much every expansion pack for the games too. I'm SO GLAD it's finally come out with a DS version- it's worth the $[...].
You uncover other "castaways" on the island and establish friendships with them. You boost your social by keeping in touch with them- and you can also trade with them for things you need. Exploring the island you find various fruits and veggies. You collect items to create nicer shelters, fires, clothing, etc.
Definitely a keeper for the DS.

Lots of fun!

Entertaining, engrossing, and fun. It's so much fun, in fact, that even though I've found the ship that will let me leave the island, I'm not taking it yet. I want to stick around and play more!

Nice and Different

I received this game recently, as my first Sims game on DS, and it's a nice change from the previous portable Sims games, concept wise. You're stranded on an island and have a series of tasks to complete to get off. Now, it's not like previous games where the tasks are so cut and dry that they're literally written out for you. You have to really explore and think critically about what you're doing to move ahead. You don't meet goals, but rather collect items and help out other castaways so that you can recieve the tools or abilities necessary to move on in the game. And of course, you have to maintain your needs. There are barriers that keep you from moving on until you've completed certain tasks, so the game is paced, but it does take some buildup of skill and knowledge of the game to figure out what to do next.

It does get a little monotonous collecting all of the items to completely finish the game. You can actually "win" and find a way off the island pretty easily and early on, but when I reached that point I had only found 45% of what existed on the island.

The layout is very different from previous games, almost set in a side-scrolling fashion, but there are features that eliminate tedious tasks. For example,a map selection screen that lets you select your location and land there automatically so that you don't have to walk from location to location--it's a nice feature, you'll see. ;)

The graphics honestly aren't much better than previous games, and my hands get a little tired from having to hold the stylus, prop up the console, and manage the control pad to move the screen back and forth (not necessary, but it's a nice option), but it definitely has me just as addicted as the last several Sims games.

A terrific Nintendo DS game!

Purchased for my daughter for her birthday, The Sims 2: Castaway has been hours of fun for her. The complexity of the Sims game means it doesn't get old. This game is better for older kids, as it requires strategy and persistence to raise your level and do well at the game. A wonderful game!
