Not too kiddy

First, I have never played the original Yoshi's Island, so I will not compare it to that.

So, is this game too kiddy, not fun, overly hard, or totally great?

For me, per my score, I found the game, mediocre at best, maybe a 3.5. It hits some really high points but also stumbles badly in some areas as far as I'm concerned.

The good: I liked the art design, use of multiple characters, and the varied gameplay mechanics in spots. Tons of game here; 40 main levels and not too short at that.

The bad: Overly easy at the beginning and by extension somewhat less than engaging, which I wrote off as due to the target audience. But, I had to reevaluate that notion after the second world. I am only 2 levels away from completing the game, and the difficulty is maddeningly unbalanced. Later levels can be long, exacerbated by midpoint icons being too far apart. Nothing is more frustrating than, spending 15 lives mastering a difficult run only to experience a second difficult run.

As someone earlier mentioned, you can easily collect over a 100 lives in the progression of the game, which at the time seemed ludicrous. Now with only two levels and 40 lives left, I am wondering if that will be enough.

To top it off boss battles are ridiculously easy even at later levels. At this point I am just playing sporadically so I can finish the game and be done with it.

This is all the more depressing when I contrast this game with New SMB, a game that while other might have thought easy, felt just right to me. I kept coming back to that game to find the secret portals after I had completed it - a truly great game.

In summary, I can't really recommend this as a fun casual game for kids. Although it starts easy, it is really geared for more of a challenge hungry hardcore gamer. That just isn't me.

FINALLY!

After a decade since the last Yoshi game, Ninendo finally gives us original fans what we've been waiting for! I loved the original SNES game so much and still play it, and wasn't disappointed with this DS version. It's not a continuation of the original but a new adventure, with several different babies to choose from with different special abilities. Very fun, and very challenging! I'm sure I'll be playing it for a while.

I was sad that it's a somewhat shorter game than the original, and I also was sad that while they kept some of the original music, there's not a whole lot of it (I really loved the SNES Yoshi's Island soundtrack). But the beautiful graphics are wonderful, really bring you into the game, and the action of the game is faster and smoother on the DS platform.

Thanks Nintendo! I hope you bring us more Yoshi soon!

Just like the Wii console, the DS is being plagued with endless Mario/Wario wtc games. Good god, I like Mario games as much as the next person but enough's enough.

Pretty good game

* The graphics for this game are adorable.
* It's an adventure with little action (Is that good or bad?).
* Control of characters is challenging.
* Very clever.
* Good for 4 yr olds.

Is the sequel as good as the wonderful SNES game, Yoshi's Island, and its GBA remake? Here is my answer: no, but it's a great game. For one thing, a few of the levels seem almost identical to one another. I would have liked for something new to crop up on every single level, like the original. However, something very interesting does crop up: the babies Yoshi is carrying on his back. Collecting flowers, red coins, and star points has returned from the original. Also back are the ground pounding, stomping, jumping, and making and throwing eggs. If you get 100 coins, you get a 1-up (as always). Yoshi can also do a hover jump, as usual. You can slurp enemies up with your tongue, as well. It seems a lot has returned from the previous game. The adventure starts out with Baby Mario and Yoshi, but then Babies Peach, DK, Wario, and Bowser join Yoshi's team, each of them having different abilities. Peach can hover, Mario can dash and hit "M" blocks that are only visible to him, DK can swing across vines, Wario can attract metal with his magnet, and Bowser can breathe fire. The only problem is that some of the levels feel like you have to do the same thing over and over. I would still highly recommend this game. It is a very great game.

Sequel to the best mario game ever

A sequel to a classic game, Yoshi's Island DS does a lot right. Still has the same feel, tight controls, graphic style, and about everything else the orginal had while still remaning different. However, considering that I hold the orginal to be one of the best (if not the best) platformer game ever, its still not quite up to par as the orginal.

With the addition of new babies, and the abilities they grant, some seem to be forced into gameplay more then others. While they do add a lot to the gameplay, it almost comes off as "use this one here, now switch, use this one to continue", as opposed to actual exploring or figuring out the levels for yourself. Also, the level design isn't quite as good as the original... Although the levels are huge and fairly challenging, there just seems to be something slightly lacking from the first game. Some tend to drag on a bit too long, others are aggrivating and annoying...

Even despite these gripes, this is still a solid title and a great game. if you loved the first one, then you will more then enjoy this game. if you haven't played the original, then this is a game deffinatly worth your money. Just make sure to pick up the original or the gba remake at some point in time as well. You won't be disapointed.

This game is fun to play. I am just learning how to play the games that are not clickable and this one is just perfect for that and it does make you laugh. For a couple of hours of non clickable fun it is great!!!

IN OCTOBER LAST YEAR I WENT TO MY FRIENDS HOUSE AND HE HAD THIS GAME. SO I
STARTED PLAYING AND THE GAME WAS COOL. I LIKE THAT YOU CAN PLAY AS BABY MARIO,BABY WARIO, BABY PEACH,AND BABY DONKEY KONG. ALL WE NEED IS TO BE
ABLE TO PLAY AS BABY YOSHI BUT THAT WOULD BE WEIRD.
