The people who did this game must be brillant. This was a lot of fun to play with great music too! Heavy on the adventure side with lots of good fighting mechanics - it's fun to switch between Iolaus, Hercules, and Serena. Fans of the show won't be disappointed, either will gamers! Highly recommended!!

When I rented this game I thought this game will be like Superman, but it isn't. This game is awesome. You will see most of the characters from the show. I have to tell you. You must buy this game. It's a 1 in a million. Believe me.

My uncle works for EGM magazine and I got to play an early version of this. It reeked of awesomeness. It was a perfect mix of action and adventure.

I have to say I'm not really into the show very much. ...I didn't expect it [Hercules: The Legendary Journey] to be so great. When I started playing it I couldn't stop. I played it for hours at a time. The game takes you through ancient Greece which is really cool. The graphics are 100% awesome along with the missions and bad guys. The only thing that wasn't cool was Xena wasn't in it. It's a must buy

Hercules: the Legendary Journeys for Nintendo64

This game is a 2000 release, for Nintendo64, it is a cartridge inserted into the game console. Original N64 games stored their played or saved games on the cartridge itself, later you had to insert a pak into the controller to save a game; for Hercules you need a pak.

Story: Ares, son of Zeus, has poisoned and imprisoned Zeus and is running joyfully amok throughout earth and Olympus. Hercules, half-human son of Zeus and half-brother to Ares, must battle and riddle and do everyday household errands, on his way to defeat Ares, release Zeus, and restore both worlds to their usual dysfunctional state. He gets help from his friends the Golden Hind, Ioleus, the god Haephestus, and his friend Salmoneus (for a price, of course).

The graphics are somewhere between Super Nintendo and Playstation. It is 3D, you run around inside a world with different levels, and is similar to Zelda 'Ocarina of Time' or 'Majora's Mask'. The music has a Celtic feeling, a little less structured than Xena Playstation but more than Xena Gameboy. Hercules is accompanied in the game by Ioleus, but they don't play together like Gabrielle and Xena do in Xena Playstation; they trade off so you get to be one at a time. Hercules mostly punches, or buys and uses potions, while Ioleus uses his fighting staff similar to Gabrielle in Xena Playstation. Later in the game you can play as Serena the Golden Hind, who uses bow and arrow. You have no choice who to play as, it is assigned by the game programmers who you play as, and where and when.

Gamesave is done by 'Scribe', a pretty lady who has houses in various cities throughout the game. She saves everything including your strength level and dinars, and even switches you've thrown, so save wisely and often. There are three slots to save a game. When you save with Scribe, and leave the game and return (or return after dying) you will reappear at the last place you saved, in whatever town she was in.

You start the game with a hundred dinars, and you find a few chests with more dinars. You need money to buy things, and you get it either by playing a scarecrow game at Cheyron's training center, or beating up minions (and sometimes their tents) for five or ten dinars. You can hold at least 3000 (and maybe more) dinars in your purse and you can hold at least 25 spells (and maybe more)in each space (earth, fire, ice, and lightning) for a total of at least 100 spells. You need about a thousand dinars to get through the necessary parts of the game,('donating' a hundred dinars to each of five temples, and buy a coat for two hundred and another for three hundred dinars) it took about five minutes to get enough dinars for one spell, or one temple donation.

Your major weapon will be Herc's fists. There are a variety of minions to defeat, plus some bosses: the Cyclops, the three Minotaurs, the Titan, and Ares himself. You need dinars, and the only way to get them is with Herc's fists or Iolaus' fighting stick, or play the scarecrow game.

Herc and Ioleus refill their health meters by breaking open barrels containing different kinds of food. After you use them, the barrels reappear after you duck into a house or another area and return. There are apples, beer, bread and in just two places, poultry. Herc HAS to pick the barrels up and throw them, and Ioleus HAS to use his fighting staff, and they both do it really slowly. The Golden Hind doesn't refill her health.

There are a number of locations, plus paths in between them

Cheyron's training grounds
Traycus
Temple area (no name)
Village with no name that's always nightime
Thrace
Alpsius in the mountains
San Tominicus by the beach
Olympus

And the lairs of a Cyclops, three Minotaurs, and a Titan

Thrace is the main stomping grounds, it's kind of a hub which gets passed through on the way to and from other places. Aside from the obvious defeating of minions and bosses, Hercules must also take time off from saving the world to do mundane chores such as finding a girl's lost cat , delivering a pie to a hungry girl, finding a spare fishing net, recovering a watchtower guard's lost teddy bear that his mother tried to hide from him, and getting an oyster shucked.

There is one hard part in this game, and that is a difficult jump across a chasm on the journey to Thrace. I only did it myself a few times, all of them accidental. It seems as if you have to RUN don't walk, toward the edge in a STRAIGHT line and then jump with the right foot.

I only had a few gripes about this game; (1) You can't copy or name a game, which is kind of stupid since you could do it with earlier Nintendo games(2) that difficult jump mentioned earlier and (3) the lamest end credits I've ever seen in a video game so far. Just a note: When you get to Olympus, and you save, it is a one-way trip and you can't get back to earth. I discovered AFTER I had saved in Olympus, and so had to play the whole game through a second time to get more stuff.

The game is full of humor, and moralizing in the style typical of both Nintendo and the Hercules TV show. You''ll realize by the time you get to Traycus that you are actually playing Zelda with Hercules substituting as Link, but if you like Zelda you'll be fine. I'm not aware of an official strategy guide, but I made one and so did another gamefan and you can find both online.

The game is definitely a collector's collectible. It is worth buying, worth playing and worth having, especially for the show fans.

Hercules: A Good Journey but Not An Excellent Legendary Journey

Hercules The Legendary Journeys is a game that is based from the T.V. show. This game, not really. The game can be really fun at first but as you go on with the levels it gets way too hard. You may end up not knowing where to go and the bosses are too hard. This game is just too challenging. That's my main con of this game. The pros is that well, doing deeds once in a while is fine but not really. It real boring! It can get too hard it's not even fun. If I were you I would just stay away from this game. Too hard, too boring.
