The Coolest MK Ever!

Okay, sure. The graphics may be a little poor and the game play may be a little hard especially because this game is a side-scroller, but this is still I would think the greatest MK ever. This game goes beyond the tournament and the story rules. Mythologies goes back into the past, before the orginal Mortal Kombat. As Sub-Zero, you must find the symbols that represent the elements and defeat totally cool bosses. By far, the best part of the game is the end level, which takes you into the maze of Quan Chi's fortress where you later meet up with him and the original Shinnok. This MK game is a must-have for any Mortal Kombat fan who enjoys MK's dark storylines more than the tournamet fights.

To speak objectively, I would say this game is most definitely only for hardcore Mortal Kombat fans. Everyone else should avoid it.

To speak from a fan's point of view, even though Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero is not known for superb game-play, I believe that it is a treasure for the most serious Mortal Kombat fans. Sure the play control is not very good, but there's much worse out there. As far as I know, Ed Boon was not involved with this game. It was John Tobias all the way, and since he had made most of the story and characters, he had an opportunity to expand and demonstrate his ideas for the story in a way that would not have been possible in a regular fighting game. I thought it was pretty cool to see how the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero started. Seeing the two meet again in the Netherrealm cell after Sub-Zero killed Scorpion was really cool. The game also had some decent music and a really dark feel to it. Both were very appropriate for the Mortal Kombat universe.

Even as a serious fan, I admit that Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero is not a game that anyone will want to play every day or again and again, but I definitely feel that it is worth owning for the most serious of fans. The game can be saved in between each level, and multiple files can be created. You can pop the game in and go to any point if there's an interesting cut-scene (Playstation version). It's a shame that John Tobias is no longer with Midway. I would like to see more games with the idea of expanding the Mortal Kombat universe. Yes, MK Mythologies does fall a bit short in the game-play/fun department, but it should be kept in mind that the game was something totally new, basically an experiment. I'm sure that if John Tobias had stayed to make more games of this type, they would have improved in the game-play department. Out of this, Special Forces and Sholin Monks, I'll take this one anytime. Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks may be more fun to play, but the story is completely messed up and the characters are represented horribly. No way that fiasco would have occurred if John Tobias had been part of that game. Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero may not be the greatest or most fun game to play, but it's just one of those things that's cool to own. Fans may disagree, but that's my take.

Defenately not the best Mortal Kombat game. Although not pityfully awful like stated in other reviews, the game isn't extremely fun. I spent hours tring to beat the game, and when I finally did I was very diapointed. The graphics weren't bad, at least not too much. The story of the game (isn't great either).

But, it's the link that shows what went on between the Shao Kahn tournaments and Mortal Kombat 4. However, the game plot also contradicts few things to the typical Mortal Kombat legacy. For example, aren't the four elemental gods supposed to be good? Then why are they on the bad guy's side? So in the end, the game is somewhat fun, and long lasting, but is it really worth your money, to me it was, and at times it was, but the final decision is up to you, you decide, I 'll just give you a little advice: don't get it.

The worst Mk up to date.

I have to admit I bought this game but, i am no idiot because I was an Mk fan. This game is exactly the same to the ps version but lacks better music and the loss of FMV due to N64 memory. Besides the story in this is quite messed up with sub zero if you compared his story in mk 1. Sub zero also is toned down and pathetic from jumping in not so high places to the ground. This is only for Mk "sub-zero" fans. Another thing is that I was able to beat this game but, still it is too hard to be fun ( and no I don't mean challenging hard).

This game should have been great.

I admit I did put hours into this game being the hugh Mortal Kombat fan that I am. Gosh I'm sure happy this embarrassing MK game didn't ruin Subzero's career. It is a side scroller in which you are faced with many evil monks (oh, and their all twins for some reason)..Subzero has many power-ups that prove useless. The mega-sized bosses are boring to fight (oh, and they never die for some reason). Due to the fact that the game supplies no level maps (how generic) a strategy guide would be a must, that is if you cared to bother with the game in the first place. Two good things did come about from this MK disaster.. Quan Chi & Shinnok. For Mortal Kombat that is a must see "MK4" or the new "MK Deadly Alliance". Leave this one in the past where it never should have spawned. 2 1/2 stars is as high as I could go. I'm generous.

Totally horrible game design, play, and graphics. What does this all add up to? An absolutly, totally horrible and terrible game. Do not buy this game at risk of your sanity. You have been warned. (Please, if you must, at least rent it first)

If I could give this game less than one star I would. I got this game off a friend for five bucks. That was the worst five bucks I ever spent. This game is terrible. It is soooooo repeditive, and the story is unbearable when they are in the brutally stupid slide show fashion. The soud is terrible because it souds the same to hit a person as it does to hit a wall. Please don't get this game.

Your gonna buy this game? Ha! Ha! That's a good one!

Oh, your not kidding? Well the makers of this game must have been. It's the worst MK ever. Well if you love 2D action, impossible levels, and no multiplayer, I guess this issss the game for you...
