But this is the greatest shooter of all time. This game alone right now this very minute makes me want to by a sega genesis. When I got this game some 14 years ago, I was blown away from the start. Every single game I owned collected dust. And I love fighting and action games the most. Every thing about this game is great. For starters this is the 4th sequel in the Thunderforce series. This one is by far the best. You have the same weapons for the most part and the game speaks everytime you pick up one of these weapons. However its the graphics, the sound effects and the music especially that gets you into the game. Bottomline if you love shooters and still own a genesis this is the game to get. This game puts to shame alot of next generation shooters. Highly recommended

Lightning Force - great side scrolling shooter

This game (which is also known as Thunder Force IV) is one of the better side scrolling shooters out there. It's a pretty tough game (there are several difficulty settings). The large collection of levels have great variety, with superb multilayered background details (parallax scrolling is used to great effect in this one). There are tons of enemies, and their behavior varies a lot. The end level bosses are pretty durable and throw a lot of different tricks at you (although their weak spots are pretty easy to figure out). Getting to them is sometimes more difficult than the actual fight. Music is, uh, pretty good. Imagine industrial music through a Genesis soundcard... at any rate, it sets a good backdrop for the frayed-nerves dodge for your life and shoot anything that moves gameplay.
