This an maximum carnage are top two spidey games.

My friends and i would play this all the time when i rented it. Its a beatem up, co-op (duznt get better than that!) where one player is spidey an the other is VENOM! I was always stuck being spidey but i didnt care. You beat up people like in Spiderman Venom Maximum carnage (the prequel to this game). You fight other sympiotes quite like venom in this game because venom has been captured by the "foundation" where he was somehow duplicated into five symbiotes that will try to pair up with a human and knowing what Carnage can do (a human with symbiote villian kinda like venom but he is more evil, insane, and red) and you gotta stop em oh unless you want to deal with carnage and his symbiote gang... (venom escaped before being destroyed by the duplicated symbiotes). all what i remember is this level where your on the streets like in maximum carnage beaten people up, then you fight this robot, an this jungle level where you fight dudes in suits...Oh an this level where your on some highway, swinging over cliffs an stuff. No doubt its one of the best spiderman games ever made. I will most likely come back an tell ya more, in the mean time... Get this game! Its also on the SNES but hella rare to get on that system! -Isaac

Oh and if/when the next person reads this review, can you please answer if you like to be spiderman or venom in this game and why? thx i would luv to hear your opinions!

If you liked Maximum Carnage, you'll like this one as well

Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety.

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, the Spider-Man franchise has gotten a huge revival, due in no small part to the recent theatrical films. Hard to believe that the character Stan Lee created circa 1962 that everyone thought would be a total flop has become one of the most popular superheroes of all time! With this resurgenge in Spidey's popularity, I thought it might be a good idea to go back and check out his video game adventures. One of the games I decided to re-explore was Separation Anxiety. I was looking forward to re-exploring it. So, does it stand the test of time? Read on for my review!

OVERVIEW:
This game was released in the mid nineties. The story of this game, once again, involves Venom teaming up with Spider-Man. Separation Anxiety is a two-player side-scrolling beat-em-up game, with no saves or passwords.

REVIEW:
After the mediocre piece of junk based on the Animated Series, Spider-Man finally got another game worthy of his name. Separation Anxiety is quite possibly the best of all the sixteen-bit Spidey adventures. The game is a side-scrolling beat-em-up fighter, reminiscent of Capcom's classic Final Fight series. The game gives you a choice of Spider-Man or Venom, with Venom being slower and more powerful and Spidey being less powerful and faster. The heroes have the powers you've come to know and love them for, too, establishing this as more than just a cheap cash-in with the Spider-Man name attached. My only complaints are that the game play is a bit repetitive at times, and that there are no saves or passwords. Other than that, this is one of the best Spider-Man games out there. If you've got a system this game is available on, BUY THIS GAME. Even if you're not a Spider-Man fan, the game may draw you in yet.

EDITION NOTES:
As an older game, this one is long out of print. Fortunately, in this day and age, there are a lot of used game shops out there with an abundance of used games for older systems. Accordingly, if you want to get this game, chances are one of those stores will have it for a decent price.

OVERALL:
Let me sum everything up. If you want a good Spider-Man adventure from the sixteen-bit era, look no further than Separation Anxiety. THIS is the way a Spider-Man game should be - fun, challenging, and uniquely Spidey. Do you have a system that this game is available for? If you answered yes to that question, there's no reason not to own this game.

I have a younger brother who always wants me to play a two player game. When I heard about Seperation Anxiety I thought this is the game we need because we're spidey fans. They even have my favorite lethal protecter ( a hero whom sometimes kill their foes)called Venom. If you're Spider-Man or Venom fan like me than buy this game.

ok i know this game has been out for a while but i just had to review it.i ran out and bought this game way back in 1995 and was so dissapointed with it.having bought the limited edition of maximum carnage the year before i thought that it would be better.it wasnt.it still played the same, but the magic that had been captured in mc was gone.i took it back the next day.being a big spidey fan a few years back i bought it again only this time to have it in my collection and not in my to play list.spdey fans you may want to have this in your collection but if your a casual gamer that still has a genesis you may just want to skip this one.

Took a while before I got the game, but in the end I quite enjoyed the game. Brought memories of how much I love the game back the days. I should look for more old school games.

If the opening music to the game is astronomically good, it's a bad game.

I've played a lot of games that to this day can be considered old. Some of them have aged well thanks to their long lasting charms and innovations, but from this I've earned an experience: I have learned that if the opening music to the game is astronomically good, it's a bad game. Few games apply to this rule, but it is still present particularly in long forgotten manure fests like Deep Blue for the Turbo Grafix 16... and this game.

Right out, the game starts with an incredible opening song, one that sounds catchy, jazzy and dire all at the same time. Then you actually play the game and see the graphics and the hook has dislodged itself from your interest.

I'm not going to say that the graphics are bad, especially not at a first glance, but SA uses a very dull color palette consisting of almost limelight tints where the shirts of thugs will appear too green for their own good and the palette loves to over-use the color gray... a lot. You'll encounter a lot of gray backgrounds in this game save for maybe the park levels which actually resemble forests.

The game play on the other hand is criminal. I don't want to sound like the average game whiner that whines about older games and how hard they were, but I know when a game is being unfair and when I just suck at a game and SA takes the former in astronomic measurements. I never thought Venom or Spidey could take so much damage from wimpy looking thugs, athletic gymnast women who use their hair as whips and headband wearing drunks armed with flintlocks (yes, I'm serious).

The enemies in this game are a pain. Some of them are really cheap particularly the wimpy, saggy-shorts jerks in the first level that leap at you from across the screen and the aforementioned gymnasts, but they only get more cheap from there, especially when they throw in guys with Cable-like guns and Iron Man wannabes.

I think my favorite boss in the whole game was the first level boss; he's one of the cheapest bosses you'll encounter, but the animation for him (or it, it's a robot, really) is SO funny that it's actually cute. It's like watching a cat walk over the dried surface of a previously rain-proof coated deck as they shake their paws of the sticky feeling before taking another step, it's that funny.

You can climb on walls in some levels, but your movement is restricted to the level. Of course, speak of the devil and he shall appear... let's talk about the real nightmare in this unconscious dream state of a game (that analogy sucks):

The levels are long, samey brawler levels consisting of streets, a forest-like park, a bridge and a factory and you're going to run through each one for what feels like five minutes straight encountering the exact same enemies and occasionally having the choice of taking different paths which wastes time more than the average game should.

None of this is helped by the looped music of each level with only three level songs total; imagine playing through eight levels with only three different songs over and over again, all of which are dwarfed by the opening song that first played.

You do get additional help in the game such as Marvel cameos who come out of nowhere once you pick up their icon, but sometimes they don't really help you; some of them have very specific reasons to help you like clearing the screen of enemies or blocking projectiles and in most cases they'll just run on screen, do something for a few seconds, disappear and leave you to continually get your posterior slammed into chewed gum.

And if you're hoping the ending and final boss is worth encountering, they really aren't. I'd say buy it for the opening music or a goofy gold robot, but are any of those really valid reasons? I think I'd rather re-coat the deck, wait for it to dry, find any spots that still have those dried, but sticky patches on them and have the cat walk over it again... and to add, I'll join in the fun by walking with her barefoot.

If you want game with your nihilism however, then come get some.
