Although Monster Rancher Battle Card seems rather Pokemon-ish at first, it really develops its own style down the road. The battles take long, but are exciting since there are three monsters on each side. The battles can be shortened, however, by turning off the animation.
It is also neat because you can get different teams depending on how you answer the questions at the beginning of the game. Oh, and the battles aren't that hard to figure out if you thoroughly read the instructions and practice a few times.
Now, the game may seem boring at first, but it gets a lot better once you reach the master rank! It is quite addicting, just as the two Playstation Monster Rancher games are. I sincerely recommend this game! Buy it whenever you have the chance to ^_^ The wait for it to be released was definitely worthwhile

Well, I saw this game when it was fairly new to the market so I bought it, being a general fan of the monster raising genre. This game offers complexity and no two monsters are the same. The breeding feature makes you able to build up super monsters, and it's very fun to see each combination. This game is not only for Pokemon fans. Any RPGer with a like of monsters should get this game. I personally love this genre, so it was right up my alley. Some problems with the game are that it's annoying how some of the monsters no matter how many pieces of meat you throw them won't join. Another is when you leave them on the Ranch too long and they become wild. Of course, this can be avoided by putting them all to sleep when you go into the Mystic World. Running out of Warpwings in the Mystic World is really a pain. Battle graphics are pretty basic, but fair. My favorite artist in the world, Akira Toriyama*the guy who made Dragon Ball Z and Dr Slump* did the character designs and it shows with each new and unique monster you meet. I like the fact you can talk to your monster, and they talk back to you if you go to the right place. Each monster has an attitude, either good, medium or pissy, and each fights differently. I have yet to beat this game, and I started it over about three times since every time I learned a new technique. It will keep you busy for hours.

This is a great GBC game! a must have, i find it better than pokemon, for you don't "catch" the pokemon in "pokeballs". I found that kinda dumb, but Monster rancher battle cards is not only fun, it's addicting! you have to earn your monsters, not catch them. at first it seemed like i wouldn't like it, then i got into it: it is great, especially if you like looooong battles.

Ok first of all, what the heck are you doing reading this freakin review? GET THE freakin GAME! This is the best folks. You there having a Pokemon hate club and trying to prove there is something better with getting monsters and battling them? Well this game is the proof. THe graphics are great and you actually see a full motion attack of the monster! You can also earn cards by winning battles and the battles itself are long and tense! ANd for crying out loud, thank god there's no stupid Pikachu wondering around the game. If you see one I''ll send out my Gali to squash it. Anyway, if you have the money and have been saving up that hard worked money for a well worth it game? Go out right now and your wait will be over. GET THIS! Note: If you are still sitting in your chair wondering what the heck I'm talking about, please stand still for I will give you "friendly" tap...

This is the best gameboy game to date. It mixes the great Playstation game Monster Rancher with an RPG style. This game is a must for anyone with a Gameboy!

Why does everyone think this game is so great?? I find it to be just an average game. You start out with three monsters and you must battle people to get more cards. There are only about 20-30 monsters in this game. They each have attack cards and defense cards. If you want to get more cards, you must battle people in these boring looking dungeons. The people follow you and if they catch you, then you have to battle them. Each dungeon has 6 floors, so by the time you are done, you have battled about 30 people!! The battles so get old, that this game will be left on your shelf in no time! Bottom Line.... Don't buy this game unless you are a really big Monster Rancher fan. Even if you are a Monster Rancher fan, I suggest you buy it for Play Station. I these games you get to battle with REAL monsters, not monster cards. If you aren't a fan and you just want a game that involves cards, try Yu-Gi-Oh. Yu-Gi-Oh ROCKS!
