If you have the time, this game is gonna keep you busy for ages. It's not often a game comes for handheld that drew me in as much as Ogre Tactics did. Well done strategy and difficult levels make success based firmly on thinking ahead and pointing out you foe's weaknesses. This game is also going to take you a while, which is my only beef. The game takes a lot of time to play, and you need to put major effort to win. I've gone through three pairs of batteries and only scratched the surface. Anyway, it's a worthy buy for strategy fans, get it now!

Puts your GBA to a good use

I dont know if this is really the kind of game for everyone. I am very personal with my games and with every great game I play I find myself deeply attached to certain aspects that could even be overlooked by a casual gamer. Chances are if you play this game you will miss out on parts of the experience i had with it. I enjoyed this game because of the great characters, thoughtful dialog, sweet music, and the atmosphere. Each little person you meet seems to have a heart. There are people that make you glad, people you feel sorry for, and people you will get angry at. I felt bad about certain enemies you're forced to kill. Alphonse, the main character, is an admirable guy and I love the girl who rescues him from the sea, Eleanor. Her theme song is one of the best in the game. There are people that make you glad, people you feel sorry for, and people you will get angry at. I felt bad about certain enemies you're forced to kill. And although he's kind of evil, the final boss is awesome. I felt respect for just about every character. The music is sometimes a little simple, but it always matches the scene is which it is place. And its not all giddy and giggly like some games music that gets on my nerves, like harvest moon. Some of the better tunes are the opening movie, eleanor's theme, cybil's theme, the final boss, and the credits. The battles are long man. Train your party members and level them up in random battles whenever you have nothing better to do, then when youve got more time enjoy the key parts of the story. There are all sorts of details in this game, in the menus and in the graphics as well. I love details. Poke around with the help feature and find out things that make the world feel more complete. This review really rambles i guess i just wanted to honor the game rather than convince people to buy it... but if you like some of these other games I've enjoyed maybe you'll like Tactics Ogre: Both Golden Suns, Dragon Warrior 1 thru 3, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. This is an excellent Game Boy title that doesnt feel quite like the other games you play on this system. I loved it!

Fun, enjoyable, and worthwhile!

To start off, this game is much like FFT, yet not as good, such as the storyline, but I won't go on, this game came before FFT anyway.

Much like FFT you have a little map an you go to places doing missions, gaining new weapons, earning spells, going to shops, and having to deal with the regular fantasy world of this Medival age. One feature I love is that when you defeat one enemy, they will usually drop a bag, and inside is an item! it can be a weapon, stat raiser, or a herb of some sort.

One great feature is you can HIRE units in shops. This is a great feature instead of waiting around for a unit to randomly come. Also a great thing you can have Beasts in your army, Octopuses, Dragons, Griffins, etc.,etc. You can also PERSUADE people to join on the battlefield. Mind you it's always a very, very, VERY, low percent, some units are better at persuading than others.

The class build up is great to. You earn different emblems in order to gain jobs. Such as you need a sniper emblem to gain an archer.

Ahhh... now the story, A BIT to predictable though. You are part of an army and then you go on your seperate way. Ehehehe...also there are other parts BUT you "choose" what path/story you will take....

At the beginning of the game, you get your fortune told and you choose what path you will take, what oath, etc. THAT is how you know what story will be told. That means...
Two words:REPLAY VALUE. You will have to beat it about 10 times until you get all the storylines.

Yet, there are some major cons....
-You can't save during battles... I had to stop, so I hooked it up to my charger to play it when i got back, but know it says like 30 hours when it should be 20....
- Hired units always are level one, unless you give more money
-Storyline still isn't really deep, a bit dull
-Battle style is a bit repetitive, not a big variety of weapons

See my Review on FFTA which is titled "After two years..."
Thank you for reading my review, and I hope it helps.

One of a few true strategy games available for the Gameboy Advance

Be careful, this game will suck up your time. As an adult it is hard to find games for the Gameboy Advance that keep my attention for long. If you are an Advance Wars fan as I am then this game should be a part of your collection. Get extra batteries!

Golden Sun and Advance Wars combined!

A great game. It has the casting abilities as well as the magic of Golden sun. It also has the items like healing items and different weapons you can outfit your character with. It is turn based like Advance wars and you move your characters on a grig system. The tile movement as well as short and long range units are also shared in advance wars. It also has qualities all it's own. All in all, a good game.

Wasn't as fun as I hoped. :(

Well I started playing this RPG game because I really liked Advance Wars and someone said if you loved Advance Wars you would like this too because it's also strategy. It's fun but it's also got major frustrations and disappointments. I started playing the game and thought: I don't like this game but maybe it will get better. It did get better and I started to like the game but I was never satisfied with the gameplay.
Ok first what's good:
It's got a lot of different types of characters such as humans of various classes and fairies, dragons, monsters of many sorts both male and female. It also has quiet a few spells to choose from for the different classes that use magic. The graphics are decent but not great. The fighting sequences are fun but get boring fairly quick and require a lot of clicking through confusing menus.

What I don't like: The battle navigation is too long and requires you to make too many clicks to get anything done. You even have to point your character in the right direction after moving him or her to a spot. Even turning off some display options like the useless experience points notification doesn't speed things up enough. Now experience what a mess that system is! Every single battle you face the enemies will always be within 1 or 2 levels above your highest character and the same level or 1 level below him. Everywhere throughout the map. It's like everyone in the world keeps up with you and your training. You get more experiece for attacking someone a higher level and very little for attacking someone the same or below. So your characters are always advancing at the same rate throughout the game(except new weak characters who rapidly jump up in level until they reach the level as everyone else) So going up a level is worthless because you never meet whimps who provide quick battles and you only use it to grow enough to use new spells, change classes, or use new weapons or armor. This is not a game to really explore. The routes are preset. There is no walking across the country side but rather just select one road from one city or site to the next. Many times you find yourself just moving back and forth from one city to the next and back again waiting to be attacked so that you can get more money to buy something or convince someone to join your team.

I played all the way until the very last end boss. GRRR. 5 battles each an hour long or more and you can suspend the game but never save it to a slot or go back to a city and get more supplies. Then the very last boss hits your guys and does trememous damage. I can't kill him and I don't want to even try again after 5 hours of battle just to get to him. And I had to create two teams to get through parts of the game I didn't like having to do that. Advance Wars I plan to play again because it was fun. This game is going into a drawer to collect dust.

Tactics Ogre Chapter 6.5

Tactics Ogre the knight of lodis is the game that in the story comes after Ogre Battle 64 and before the SNES version that was only relested in Japan. It uses almost the same combat form except now they have turns where you go and then you opponent and then you and in the original you took turns based on Wait Time(WT). WT is determined by what actions you made in you last turn so if you just walked and didnt attack you might (depending on speed) go before somebody who went before you last turn. Because this game dosen't have WT i gave it a 4 star rating but i still like the plot of the story and how they take a deaper look into the Holy Lodis Empire which you meet in Ogre Battle 64.

What an amazing game!

Wow. The only thing wrong with this game is it's so addictive that you hurt your eyes from playing for 3 hours straight! My first day (I should have been working but instead) I played this game for 7 hours! I couldn't put it down! The graphics are very nice and lush with detail. The gameplay is godly. So many cool classes, weapons, spells, and objects. The story is great and very interesting but PAY ATTENTION TO NAMES. It's easy to get lost if you don't pay attention. It is well worth reading though because it makes the game much more fun to play. The sound is cool too. I can't find a fault with this game yet. A must buy for sure.

Neat Game

I recently bought this game for an upcoming vacation I knew I would need something to entertain myself with. This game is much harder than Golden Sun. I like the story line because it is deeper than Golden Sun. I have to say, I didnt get into the battle system and I was a little put off not being able to wander around the towns at first. This took me awhile to get used to, but when I did, it becomes highly addictive!

This game is a stategy game. It really makes you think. The characters are neat, but the graphics arent as good as Golden Sun.
