Wild Arms 3 is a terribly mediocre RPG that simply never should have been made.
The Good:
Relatively nice cel-shaded graphics. Period. Nothing else.
The Bad:
Incredibly flat characters, predictable and cliched storyline, repetitive and stupid battle system, lack of any good enemies, you can't get any new guns, music is very limited, doesn't sound like the Wild West.
Conclusion:
Wild Arms 3 could've been a good RPG worth 4 stars with some improvements, unfortunately the developers obviously didn't try very hard. Don't even bother with this game. Not worth your time at all. Try Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Dark Cloud 2, Suikoden 3, or Grandia 2. They are much better than this game.
Frustration thy name is Ragu O Ragla...

Ok,so I had the honor of playing WA3 when I spent that night at my friend's house and he was in THE ABYSS, the hardest area in the game. The game's cartoony cel-shaded graphics are very well rendered, and there's a surprising amount of detail in the facial expressions when they attack, cast a spell, get hit, etc. The characters themselves are well constructed (Gallows and Jet being my two favorites), and although the spell effects are less than spectacular, the innovative "Reload" combat system more than made up for it. Also, the ability to switch out "Runes" in mid combat is VERY useful, especially when fighting tough bosses, like Ragu O Ragla (a name that should sound familiar to Wild Arms veterans) who seriously, SERIOUSLY takes about, oh say, 4 HOURS TO BEAT!!!! The main strategy would consist of giving Clive the Elemenatal Ward and Finest arts rune, and Gallows mainly Magic defense rune... Well, I'll let you people figure it out, but be warned that the 2nd Ragu O Ragla has, literally over 1,000,000 HP. Anyway, I thought the one of the COOLEST things in the game is the Horseback battles, where you are riding on horses and the enemies are running alongside you. Trust me, it looks great. The music also fits VERY well with the Old West setting. When presented with the choice of buying this or Suikoden 3, I'd have to pick this. Buy it. Now. You won't regret it.
Very smartlly made and fun game...dont listen to the idiots.

I have played many RPGs in my time. The animation is great, characters are charming, the batlle system is quick and user friendly. Nowadays there are RPG/action games where you have to continually mash buttons, not good. I hated Final Fantasy X, annoying characters and screwed up battle system. This game doesnt have endless option screens and other useless stuff like Final Fantasies have. I cant really put in in words but it kept me playing and playing. This is the best RPG I have played on the PS2. I loved it...If you like turn based RPGs then you cant go wrong!

This game is great, if you level up or else it is difficult. For example I was only level 28 when I went to the abyss, and normal battles were like bosses. So this game is great just make sure you are level 40 and have finest arts on clive and have not upgraded his bullets but just the strength at the end of the game and you should have no problems.Buy this game if you have not already.

I'd have to say, WIld Arms 3 ranks in number 2 on my list of favorite PS2 games (right behind Suikoden 3). This game is so rich, with gameplay and story, I just couldn't put it down!
Story- A very well done story takes place on the planet of Gaia, once a lush planet of forests and scenery, now a destroyed wasteland, no nature, just dirt and the sky. Four hereos are set out on one journey, to find a rare item known as the ice scepter. They unexpectedly meet after trying to steel it from a cargo train. They all set out on a journey however to find the real ice scepter. Ahead in the game, three evil dude(ette)s try and destroy the world using their magic and extreme sorcerry. After breaking the limit, they begin decaying at Gaia's core, slowly eating away at its very existence. So the four heros band together to stop the world from extinction, and bring Gaia back to its original state. Very and excellently done, no flaws whatsoever.
Gameplay- Yet again another perfect category! Battles take place in turn-based time. You choose from a variety of choices such as summons, gun shots, and magic abilities. After all your choices are made, battle comences and all players take action. What makes this game great, is that if you originally chose to attack lets say, and a character on your side is critically injured, you can slap the 'X' button before a character moves and switch you comand to say a healing magic. The battles seriously never get old, with new magic and summoning powers that are beautifully done.
Another thing that I was amazed at, is the fact that each boss had weaknesses. What I mean is, some bosses require you to use a key item or maybe magic attack before you can hurt them. A certain enemy maybe to fast for you to attack, so its essential to use a speed-dispell magic in order to do ANY sort of damage. Its a great way to add some new twists on the RPG genre.
Characters- Aw, the characters are perfect. A lot of the parts even made me cry........seriously. But all the four main characters, as well as NPC's personalities expanded so much! You felt as though you really knew the characters. Its just another way WA3 is perfect. Although they aren't voice overs, the dialouge will really bring you in.
Toughness/Replay Value- I'll tell you right now that this game is extremely difficult. Over half the game requires you to search on the world map using the '[ ]' button, and some areas are extremely hard to find. You must talk to everyone in the towns to find out your destinations coordinates and yata yata yata. I got very frustrated looking for places to go. As for RP toughness, this game is just as hard. The battles can sometimes go on forever, but to me this is a very good thing. Every game needs a challenge, and to me, no games over good challenges except for RPG's, and WA3 is no exception. Battling is very enjoyable, yet difficult. But I can guarentee you won't breeze though this game.
In addition to battling, outside of battle puzzles can be tricky as well. You will need to use character tools collected throughout the game like a grapling hook or boomerang to solve puzzles and activate switches. Its very fun!
Another thing this game has is replay value. You can ride a giant robot dragon, hitch a ride in a sandcraft, grow your own garden, and tons more! There are about 7 hidden bosses and areas as well! Great value, and will have you playing for hours.
Music/Sound- This category is superb! There is nothing to say but wow! I immediatley bought this games soundtrack after I beat it. The music if great, every note perfectly catchs the mood the area or characters are in.
Overall I would really really feel sorry for you if you missed out on Wild Arms 3. Its a beautiful game that prooves you don't need bright colors and weapons to have a great game. I can guarentee it will have you playing for 40+ hours, 50 if you want to unlock all of its secrets........can you save Gaia, I doubt you can. Thsi game is pure brilliance.
Wild ARMS not so wild.

Wild Arms 3, is not necessarily a bad game. Its certainly better than FFX. Its simply a victim of its time. I havn't been able to gather the pure energy needed to beat it yet (but have played between 30 and 40 hours thus far). Heres a break up of the good and bad aspects, as I seem them, of this game.
Good Aspects
The cell shaded graphics are excellent
Not usually one who cares for magic or graphics, I must say that this game has the hottest looking fire I have ever seen. (I swear it actually really hot instead of just really orange).
The concept of riding horseback in battle/world map was GREAT.
The tools(example: Frost Doll shoots cold beam to unlight torches)
The ability to walk, tiptoe, and run.
Magic without losing magic points. Really neat.
Upgrading various stats of your weapon. (accuaracy, speed, attack, bullets)
Ability to avoid battles to an extent. Really nice feature. Gives you the option to dodge weak enemies inifinetly, and strong monsters a certain amount of times (like 6 times a dungeon)
TONS of extras. 25 hidden block puzzles. 99 hidden monsters. etc. Unlockable videos
Beautiful cinema and song when reloading a saved game
Bad Things
The battles are a little slow (a couple turns takes about 8 minutes)
Lack of variety in magic (only one spell of each element)
Mediocre equipment system (limited to status wards and elemant wards)
The towns aren't fun to explore (way to small)
The world map system is REALLY annoying. (places simply ARE NOT THERE unless you know where to look).
The dungeon design (run through small room, puzzle, run through small room, puzzle. etc)
Balance (stretched out story segments, stretched out world map exploring, stretched out dungeons)
Generally boring and wordy story.
Poorly balanced item system.
Generally, its a mediocre story, with drawn out (easy) battles, and TONS of tiny places to explore. You get a sandcruiser (the ocean is sand) and a flying dragon. Dunno. It can be fun, but there are long stretches of annoying not fun.
horrible...just horrible

Well I am very disappointed...very.
Here are the bad things.
- Horrible graphics
- corny storyline
- no real voices
- same old battle system.
what else? Well for one the graphics repeat, the music is very annoying..it just keeps playing over and over the same part, and they don't even explain the complicated menus..you have to figure it out for yourself. The graphics are flat, and more like cartoon characters..obviously the creaters tried to make it look "cute" and save some time and $$. There is a reason it's cheaper than the other games..because it is cheap. it isn't worth the rent money either..
What were they thinking!?

First off,I want to say that I loved wild arms 1 and 2;as such I was expecting to love wild arms 3....WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!
One extremely annoying new "feature" was the random battle encounter gauge.Unlike 2 where you would get a "!" above your head so that you could run away from a random battle,WA3 only lets you do this 10 times, then you HAVE to fight.
Another bad feature was the fact that everyone uses guns;you can hit with your fists(when your out of ammo)but it does such lame damage that it's not even worth trying. Also the personal skills system was changed for the worse(having to equip an item, fight so many battles and then having the item dissapear after you've learned the skill)
The characters and the story were also short of my expectations for the series. While janus & co.(bad guys) were sometimes funny and sometimes despicable, they were nowhere near as great as say liz & ard from part 2.The game also felt like it was TRYING to make a story just to give you a point to do things, whereas the previous two installments had great stories to them which also just happened to be games.
The only good thing about this game is the graphics;not the ahh and ooo 3D type, but the fact that all of the characters looked like they were hand painted with water colors, and that was impressive. The only noticable music in the game was the traditonal wild arms opening that's heard during the train scene after you play all four character intros. The very start was sung in voices with a hymn-like effect;very nice.Everything afterward is just hum drum, average run-of-the-mill.
All in all Wild Arms 3 is just another video game sequal that bombed!
More than it seems

You know, this game isn't as bad as some people make it seem. I thought it would be just another weird RPG game. I was attracted to the cell-shaded graphics (they look great, by the way). Its kind of weird at the beginning, but it gets better as you play. People get mad over having to do random battles after your "ecn" gauge goes to zero are dumb. You can 'easily' avoid most battles, and if you get tired of the same monsters attacking you can turn on auto-battle. WA3 is an above-average game, pretty fun and sometimes challenging.
A mixture of gaming styles

This is an excellent game for rpg fans who also have quick trigger fingers. However, if you are not good at platforming you will face some serious challenges. I was stymied part-way through the game by a door that would only open if 6 bombs were placed accurately within about 10 seconds. This will be a game ending challenge if you are not good at this sort of thing. The plot is interesting as are the characters. If you are interested in rpg's with more than a dash of platforming this is a great buy.
