Excellent D&D game

Do you like D&D? Do you like the Dragon Lance setting? Then you'll love this game. This game adheres to Advanced D&D rules, and it is really a fun rpg. The battles can be quite strategic, and there is a lot of customization.

The only downside (in my opinion), is that you have to refer to a manual for conversations and journal entries. This probably has to due with the limited disc space the C64 had, but it isn't too bad.

This game had a great story, and was really fun. Thumbs up!!

Great for its time

I remember picking this game up well over a decade ago because I loved the Dragonlance novels so much. I had never used the SSI role playing system before, but in a relatively short time I had it mostly figured out and was cutting my way through Ansalon with my party in tow. The graphics are fairly simplistic, but the gameplay is highly addictive, with ample opportunity as the game progresses to upgrade weapons, armor, and spells for your mages. There is also pretty good replay value, as there are several difficulty levels, and you can always try again with different pairings of races/classes. The storyline itself is also pretty entertaining, and offers a nice mix of the Dragonlance characters/series, without slavishly following an established storyline. All in all, a very fun/addictive RPG with mediocre graphics that was pretty good stuff for its time. Worth popping in for Dragonlance fans or RPG enthusiasts looking for a new (old) challenge.

Note: I also agree with the prior reviewer.... referring to the journals for passwords was highly irritating, and continued through all of the SSI RPG's that I played. Can't have it all I guess.
