age of mythology was the best PC game that i ever played. I REALLY kicks age of empires right in the butt! you can zoom in very close and very far, plus you can get magical and mythical cretures. I loved age of empires long befor I discovered age of mythology. so if you'er a fan of mythological war, buy this today!

A good simulation in the typical build and achieve goals mode. Some fun mythological beasts, soldiers, etc., Gods to pray to. Gives a bit of a history lesson as well.

Be clear; it is *not* an extension of Age of Empires. Strategies you might apply there work only half-heartedly here The 'favor' or mythic aspect is fun and interesting, but neither compelling nor extraordinary. Yes, the audio and video are sublime ! However, make sure your machine is up to the task. I had to upgrade a video board (8 to 32MB),just to get it to load. I have an older 400MHz system, but do have 256MB ofRAM. STILL, I have yet to complete a game - it locks up solid, requiring a cold boot and unpredictably. So, if you have a gamer's machine your luck may be better than mine. I still go back to Age of Empires, Conquerors expansion.
GREAT ORIGINAL GAME

Basically AOM functions similarly to AOE in that your basic approach is the same: you collect resources and use them to develop technologies and units. instead of collecting stone, you now harvest "favor." Sure, the units are different than what we saw in AOE and have different abilities: Some are now Myth units which have abilities that AOE units did not have. In addition, before progressing to another age, you now have to chose a minor god that is contingent on the civilization (and god) you chose at the outset. Overall, however, the game is basically the same as AOE - I don't consider applying new labels to units as a vast improvement or change to the basic tenets of the game. Speaking of improvements: I really don't see any. Actually, i do see quite a lot of the opposite. While we had many civilizations to choose from in AOE, we are now very limited - which reduces the joy of re-playing this game. In addition, difficulty ratings are pretty horrible. In the "Easy" mode, you basically fall asleep since nothing ever happens. You just collect and develop until you are strong enough to dominate the world. You won't get much hassle from you computer opponents. Switching to "moderate" won't help you much, though. All of a sudden, you don't have any opportunity to really collect and develop anything since you are overrun by your opponents. You are faced with constant attacks - which takes away any enjoyment.
If you've played and enjoyed AOE then this game is simply boring. However, if you are new to this kind of game, then by all means, go ahead and have fun.

It was a very fun game. It would definitly be on my Christmas list. It might have done better though with more civilizations, but not so many that you haven't played them all.

Because this game requires "Administrator Privileges" to run (not just install) I can not recommend this game if you share a computer with others -> especially younger others who may inadvertently do damage as "administrators".
You would think Microsoft would have the brains to figure this out! Their game, their OS, why the handcuffs???
EXCITING! but...

I think in my personal opinion AOM is a fun, interactive game. with nine major gods to chose from I was imadetly was adictid to the game being 10 years old I loved the the game adrealin compared to the games that I play on gamecube. The one thing I don't like aboute this game is the the begining. often times whan my vilages are colecting resoces I often find my self bord and soon I turn off the game. overal Age Of Mytholagy is a fun. action-paced game. BUY IT NOW!!!!
check the system requirements!

This game requires not just OS X, but OS X 2.6 or higher! I have OS X 1.6. I had no idea that the game wouldn't work with my version of OS X. But it didn't. Complete waste of time; I'll have to give the game away. It may be fun for all I know, but do make sure your computer can handle it.

Age of empires was a bad copy of Warcraft II and Age of Mythology is a bad copy of Warcraft III. If one has played too much the original games and wants something new can try Microsoft's copies, otherwise they do not worth.
