I'm a grand fan of all sci-fi games, so of course when I seen starship trooper I was ecstatic! Usually, even when it says "operating system etc etc....." as usual I picked it up knowing or hoping that XP would take the game and run it. don't make the same mistake I did folks read what I got from the support at Atari inc.:

"Unfortunately, this game is not compatible on Windows 2000 or Windows XP as they are NT systems built on a different architecture that does not allow access the hardware in the manner that previous operating system had."

Sorry for the inconvenience.

So buyer beware and lover of the games!

Dunno how good it really is.....

Starship Troopers Has Alot of Bugs!

Finally Received the game after delays caused by the demand for the PS2. First the game is massive between 70-400-500megs depending on the install. After I chose the typical install (400+mb) it took about 20+ minutes to finishing installing on my computer.

After I awoke, I followed the click-on instructions and then rebooted my system. When I tried to play the game it would hang about 5 seconds into the intro. Then total system crash!

I would have to reboot the system because my computer had totally froze. Since the system was caught playing part of the intro music it sounded like it was laughing at me...

After a night long battle of unistall-install-freeze-reboot I finally gave up. The bugs had won. This is not a fun game especially when the game laughs at you.

My system had a AMD K6-2 533, 20gig HD, voodoo3 3000 pci & 64mb of memory.

How should I know?

How can any "Customer" review the game when it hasn't even come out yet? I ordered it on August 4th (it was supposed to hit the stores on September 1st. It keeps getting set back and set back and set back and etc. When you send me the game I've waited for for so long, I'll send you an honest review. Until then I don't see how you can honestly expect an honest review. Case closed.

same as movie, at least there was naked chicks in the movie

Based on the 1960 Hugo-winning book of the same name by Robert Heinlein and the 1997 movie, also of the same name, the game Starship Troopers will combine elements of both. The 3D realtime strategy game is squad-based, allowing the player to control varying sizes of bug-killing teams. "People who read the book are book fans, and those who saw the movie are movie fans," said Thomas Zahorik, senior producer for the game. "We've tried to identify the best of both worlds and merge that together [in this game]. There's a lightheartedness in the movie that you won't find here," he continues. "This is more of a serious game. After all, it's a war game. Also, the book had several elements that the movie didn't have. The biggest one, which carries over very well to the game industry, is power suits, which is basically mechanized armor, and there will be 12 different types." There's good variety in the 20 or so missions. For example, one of the missions takes place on a populated beachfront, meaning that civilians will have to be saved while the insects are exterminated. For each mission, the player will have full control over loadout, including weapons and specialized abilities such as stealth infiltrator and combat engineer. "You've got a pool of troopers, and it's not a pool that's constantly refreshed; once they're gone, they're gone, so you need to do some thinking as you pack them out," Thomas said. "You really don't want to loose a trooper because the more missions they go on, the better they get."

Each trooper also has various stats and characteristics that are affected by their performance in the field. Attributes include strength, accuracy, telepathy, medical knowledge and speed. "There's a little bit of role playing involved, and it ties you to the characters involved, [especially] since you cannot just manufacture new troopers," he says. Once the troopers are ready for battle, each weapon comes into play differently. "Some bugs are susceptible to flames, for example. You would learn this by capturing a bug, bringing it back to your base and studying it. In this way, you slowly build a better arsenal."

We watched the game in motion for the next 15-20 minutes or so, and it definitely looks nice. The 3D engine, created by Australian developer BlueTongue, has respectable draw distances and can handle a lot of action at once. In the particular build we watched, Thomas was able to instantly beam in different bugs and troopers (which is basically a debug tool), and at one point the screen was full of troopers and insects, some ground-based and some airborne, all moving fluidly. Control of the game seemed relatively simple as well, with the mouse controlling the fully rotatable map and many of the other functions, such as troop formation and movement.

The game, set to ship in late August or early September, is another entry into the quickly growing world of 3D RTS games. What sets Starship Troopers apart is its license and unique mix of RPG and RTS gameplay. Without being able to manufacture new troopers on a whim, players will be forced to think on their feet or become insect fodder. The sheer number of insects and their different forms and abilities (some fly, some cloak, etc.) should make for some frantic RTS fun, just in time for school.

Just as I wanted more from the movie, compared to the book, I wanted more from this game. Too simple, without the complexity of either the book or good military software. Given a choice, I would give this one a pass.

I've owned this game since 2001. But with my latest computer, I can't get it to load and play. No support. No information sites available. There is a line in the start up that you must delete to get it to play. Unfotunately, I forgot what, so now I can't get it to run on my current comp. If anyone out there knows, I'd appreciate the help. The game is good, but no deviation. But as I get better, I run the ops with fewer men and make it harder.

Started playing the game when my son borrowed it from a friend. I was rather frustrated when it had to be returned prior to my completing the campaign. I enjoy how it plays and find it a good combination of graphics and challenge. It's a well designed game for my tastes which makes it a shame that the company no longer supports it.

Great game but needs lots of ram

Ok, i bought that game after i had downloaded the demo. THe demo was great and i thought that STTA would be a great game. I was right and the game is excellent except for some minor things that Hasbro might have fixed. First, you start out as a Green trooper in the MI and you land on the bugs main planet in the first wave. This goes on and on and you kill a bunch of bugs with alot of different and cool weapons, upgrades, and so forth. This is a great game if you want to try out with real time stradgity games or if your an old vet. If you have less that 96 megs of ram, then this game will not run very snmoothly when there is alot of bug activity such as the whiskey outpost scene or some of the other big battles. If you dont run into those aot then this game is good but you must have alot of ram just o be surte that that game will run alright. Thta is why i down graded it from 5 stars to 4 stars because of the ram part. other than that this is an excellent game and i reccomend buying it if you are at least a little interested in RTS games. Good luck!
