Incredible Sim Game With Minor Bugs.

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

This game is highly detailed in its use of historical accuracy and details of battle. An excellent sim game, the program is dangerously addictive to anyone who enjoys a strategy game, particularly those with even a moderate interest in WWII. For those who've never heard of this series, it's centered around commanding troops of armor and infantry to conquer enemies by total destruction and/or capture of territory. Many aspects of war are included: line of fire, suppression, flanking, fatigue, elevation and more are well contrived and integral aspects of the game. This incantation of the series focuses on the Battle Of the Bulge and places heavy emphasis on historical aspects of the event.

The game is generally geared towards German strength. The American teams rarely outdo the German teams and therefore, playing the German side usually results in complete carnage for the Americans. The AI is not particularly crafty, and often times chimpanzee-like strategies will result in an easy win. Sometimes though chimpanzee strategies will result in you looking like you are indeed a chimpanzee.

The bugs are well-reported in other posts. Among some not seen by me are the fact that although your rocket halftrack packs about 80 rounds, it stops firing at 66 rounds. Also, the electronic registration is geared towards modem usage and repeatedly failed registration over a cable modem. The downloadable patch for this game (at the time of the writing) is difficult to get and I still have not been able to find any reliable source, including the manufacturer's site.

Despite it's minor shortcomings, this game is where war sim games all should be. You'll kick yourself for not getting this game sooner.

I have played close combat II (trial version only), III, and IV. I got close combat 3 a few years ago off of the internet and loved it i played it on and off ever since. One day I decided to get another one of the close combat games. I looked at many reviews on amazon.com and ign. And i finally decided to go with close combat 4. I also downloaded CC 2, i liked it but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. CC 4 has better grafics then all of the previous close combat games and better sound. you can see a puff of smoke come from a tank when it moves even. there are cut screens and they are real footage of WWII but the sound isn't original! i meen come on they use the sounds from the game for the guns. now it is great when you are playing the game but it just doesn't go at all with movies. your infantry has a chance with killing a tank if it has an anti tank weapon (ex. panzerfaust germans). the battles are real from WWII. you can create your own scenario but I found it tricky because I didn't get the manual with mine (I think it will come with it from amazon, I bought it from compusa. the maps are good, i know in other reviews they said that they got repetitive, well i have been playing it for a few weeks now and they are different despite all of them being covered in snow. so if you are a fan of the series or are looking to buy a good close combat game this is the one for you.

A good game, but not perfect. The new close combat (Normandy) is better.

This game rocks! Although I did not purchase this game at amazon, I thought i should add my 2 cents. I was disapointed to see what other people thought of this game.I currently own all of the close Combat games and, as i expected, this was going to be a great game.

to start.the game has lots of ways to make the game easy or difficult. there are individulal battles you can play, opperations(two or three battles), and campaigns. you can also creat "what if" senarios. and play on either the axis powers or the allies.

This game also gives infantry more of a fighting chance to take out tanks(if you've ever played any of the others).

whats there to say.this game rocks!!!!!!!!

This game was simply awful compared with CC I through III. I had a blast with CC III but I would not recommend this one at all.
