Lots of fun, this game is. GREAT graphics! I would give it five stars, but the save-game feature needs some improvement. Saving only saves the Minicons and datacons that you rescue. If you just spent the last 4 hours sweating and bleeding to kill the Decepticons, guess what, you'll have to kill the same bad guys again and again until you complete the whole level. On a good note, though, if you risked life and limb to rescue a much needed Minicon, THAT you WILL NOT have to do again. He's yours for the keeping.
It would have be awesome to play as a decepticon, if anything, just to play the other side of the story.
This is a real basic shooter and it can be a lot of fun.
More fun than the other transformer game for PS2

Great game! It's a little challenging for my younger kids but they kept at it and are now better at it than me. They love the game.

First let me start by saying that I was very excited to play this game when I cam across it - I have been a Transformers fan since I was a kid. But I had a feeling they wouldn't get it quite right, and unfortunately I think I was right.
Plain and simple, this game is hard even on the easier settings - I don't think I could have even come close to beating it without the invincibility code, which I didn't want to use because it detracts from the game play, in my mind. But I had no choice in the end.
Game play is not really all that intuitive, it took me a while to adjust to the controls. But once you get the hang of it, you can get by (i.e. they're not horrible, but expect a learning curve).
And the fact that you can only choose one of three Autobots was a letdown. You really don't have many opportunities to use vehicle mode (though there are a few times when it's really helpful in getting away from enemies) because more often than not, the terrain just isn't friendly enough. And when it is, you're better off in robot mode so you can actually shoot at targets and attackers.
Replay value is low, in my mind - I tried to beat the game on the next hardest setting but found myself getting bored and just stopped playing all together. Even now, a year plus later, it's not all that appealing to play.
Overall, I'd say wait for the sequel if you can (if there's going to be one)...

It's not quite following the original story of the Transformers but for diehard fans it should be fun.
The Decepticons and Autobots are still fighting but this time they decide to bring in robots called Minicons to sizzle the story. In reality they don't provide that much entertaining but the rest of the game is good. As the Autobots you travel all over the world and you get to transform into the vehicle of your choosing.
On the downside you really don't get many characters to pick from but they did provide a lot of the more popular characters like Optimus Prime and Rodimus. Atari could have made this better allowing gamers to choose more character and maybe playing as the Decepticons themselves.
The graphics are good much of what you expect the characters do look semi-close to their real counterparts. The music was passable. The one thing they did do a nice job off is providing voices for the Autobots and Decepticons. They aren't the voices from the old series but the new one. Ah well it was still kind of them to do that.
The controls were a mixed bag. On some levels it became more clear than others that perhaps they should have added more You initially just have a gun but when you collect the minicons you're able to add more to your inventory. This I found annoying because well the Autobots have a ton of weapons of their own and this sort of took part of the mystique away.
This explains why this game got mixed reviews. On one hand, it's a Transformers game, on the other hand they only got half of the game right.
The game itself with the bosses will hold your attention span for the end. While the early bots are fairly easy to get through, the game gets tough as you go through it.
One thing that does save the game from being a total dud is the amount of extras that they threw in. You get tv spots, Transformers comic art, and other revealing footage about the game.
The game ain't too shabby. It could have been much better but as I say if you're a diehard fan you'll want to play it.
Big thumbs down

They could have done so much more with this game. For those who are fans of the franchise, you understand that it has a very cinematic feel which is missing from the game. The gameplay is clumsy and is difficult to get into without any backstory. Save your $$.
Wow! A Very Underated Game

This game is a load of fun.The graphics are very good if not excellent. The controls are very easy to use. Some people think that the transformation from robot to vehicle would be challenging, its not.You get a ton of weapons to use such as heat seeking missles (my fave),power up blaster guns, wings that attach to you and then you can fly, which by the way is really fun to use for searching across worlds. You also get unlockable extras within the game that are really cool to check out and use.The only bad side to this game is that you only get three Autobots to choose from Optimus Prime(semi),Red Alert(emergency suv) and Hot Shot(sports car). Each Autobot has its own strengths and weaknesses.Prime is very strong and has a powerful attack strength, but is slow.Hot Shot is very fast but cant take the big hit, etc. The game is challenging even in easy mode.Note:this is a game where you might have to back track worlds you previously played to find unlockables where you couldnt get to before.Don't let the bad reviews turn you away from this game.It isnt even close to a bad sucky game.Enjoy!
Very lackluster

I was very excited about this game and while it was neat to finally be able to run around and "transform and roll out" thegame play itself is a major disappointment. It's a essentially a shooter game with some amazing graphics. The controls are awful and the gameplay repetetive. I'm a life long Transformers fan and this game really disappointed.
