First let me start by saying that I was very excited to play this game when I cam across it - I have been a Transformers fan since I was a kid. But I had a feeling they wouldn't get it quite right, and unfortunately I think I was right.
Plain and simple, this game is hard even on the easier settings - I don't think I could have even come close to beating it without the invincibility code, which I didn't want to use because it detracts from the game play, in my mind. But I had no choice in the end.
Game play is not really all that intuitive, it took me a while to adjust to the controls. But once you get the hang of it, you can get by (i.e. they're not horrible, but expect a learning curve).
And the fact that you can only choose one of three Autobots was a letdown. You really don't have many opportunities to use vehicle mode (though there are a few times when it's really helpful in getting away from enemies) because more often than not, the terrain just isn't friendly enough. And when it is, you're better off in robot mode so you can actually shoot at targets and attackers.
Replay value is low, in my mind - I tried to beat the game on the next hardest setting but found myself getting bored and just stopped playing all together. Even now, a year plus later, it's not all that appealing to play.
Overall, I'd say wait for the sequel if you can (if there's going to be one)...
Hmmm... makes up for the sorry show...

(...). What we have here is a well put together game, complete with a challenging difficulty, good graphics, tolerable voice acting (and despite what some reviews have said, Optimus and Megatron ARE voiced by their respective voice actors, Gary Chalk and David Kaye), and the real star of the show, GOOD gameplay. That in itself makes for a wonderful experience. But the added element of hunting down minicons(uuuuuuuugh....) is justified by actually having them enhance your "bot" with useful weapons and/or features.
All in all, a great experience.

If you are really picky about if it is g1, dont buy the game. But if you have an understanding that this is a different setup but the same type idea , then it will be perfect for you. I just went through the whole game and completed everything and i still see myself playing it again. the graphics are some of the best on the ps2 to date , they did a great job on the cinimatics.
oh for all you g1 fans that think this is not for you dont worry ,ps2 is going to put out a g1 game . that should make you feel better. and they are making a g1 movie. But for the people that think things dont change after 20 yrs, well never mind there is no help for you all.
Awesome Game

If you expect this game to be from the 80's this isn't it. But this game is good and it is from the new series Aramda and Emergon. You can use mini-coms. You can use the Autobot's Prime, Hot Shot and Red Alert. This game is loved by many people.

This game is amazing! Tons of shooting and almost never ending action, plus secrets are cool! It may not be G1 (generation 1) but it's still cool. a bunch of the secrets are things about G1, too. This game is based on the Transformers: Armada series.
Worth the time and money

What fun! I've never been a fan of third person shooters, but combining this game with the Transformers' genre was an idea that piqued my interest and delivered. Gameplay is smooth, graphics are very good (but not great), CGI's are incredible. Not the Transformers I grew up with (with the exception of Prime), but I can deal with it. Overall, I'd recommend it for Transformers fans of any age.
Lacks story, but awesome game play

What the game admittedly lacks in story (especially for those of us original Transformers fans who haven't kept up with the new series) it more than makes up for in game play. I've always wanted a game where I could transform between robot and vehicle to pound bad guys, let alone huge levels where you can walk/drive/fly almost anywhere to complete the objectives. Great game.
Such a cool game!
